雪月花, yaksha, black. by x-crossfade, reunion, extinction and reproduction

And there's one unplayed Lincle song that has crept into here, followed by another one which I at least did manage to get to previously. First, Setsugekka should have went better, but I was thrown by what it was asking for with the first main melody set on the percussion left hand so I was taken down to a C pretty quickly even though I hit some other stuff OK. I knew I didn't recognize Yaksha right off the bat and probably should have flushed it at that point but I didn't know if it was that or a BOF song that I had forgotten or what. I definitely am not very impressed by Black upon second play. Reunion and Ex&Rep to close things was no help for my overall score. Leadoff song was the easiest in this case.

Lincle Part III.

release the music - 10/1035 - 1665; 663 339 32 0 4 AAA -175 P: Pretty good. Interesting rhtyhm syncopation phrases for the build up. Not sure the floaty piano scales in the middle were really warranted, but it's not terrible enough to ruin the whole song.

round and round - 10/1230 - 1973; 801 371 50 3 6 AAA -213 P: Good. Was bracing for more scratching at the end based off of the beginning, but it didn't come. Only real dopey part was the straight eighth drum beat section in the middle. No complaints otherwise.

sa.yo.na.ra. superstar (regul) - 11/1188 - 1754; 665 424 65 15 53 AA -94 F: Thumbs down. Good intro leading to an unrelated ballad middle, then back to more uptempo for the end. Stinger held for some dumb voice sample. One of Mitsuru's weakest as far as I've heard.

scharfrichter - 11/1505 - 2245; 859 527 78 13 68 AA -96 F: Sunk by hold notes yet again. Rambling prog rock bullshit that just sounds fast for the sake of being fast. Like the long scratch end, not much else.

session 12 -esther- (regul) - 12/1598 - 2154; 785 584 166 17 106 AA -331 F: What the fuck was that? Scales go up, scales go down, scales go up, scales go down, shut the fuck up already. Remix the song to expand on the middle part and maybe you've got something.

several words - 10/1059 - 1560; 587 386 63 11 30 AA -87 P: All sizzle and no steak. I didn't detect any underlying theme which held the piece together.

shade - 11/1372 - 2097; 802 493 58 3 41 AA -37 P: Neat. Only issue I can say right off the bat is that I think the ending notes could have used more echo or resonance to give a drift feeling. Besides that, I liked the song from start to end. Chart will make you crosseyed from all the mirroring.

snake stick - 12/1418 - 1681; 574 533 211 74 60 A -209 F: Another scratchy 12* by Yoshitaka and Mass Mad Izm. I like the backing melody and flow much more than Black. X-Crossfade. I wonder if I can nail this in a few plays or if it would take me more. The scratching rhythm does seem a bit tricky in spots.

snow goose - 10/1394 - 2098; 803 492 67 9 35 AA -70 P: Shoot this down. Whatever it was that my brain expected, it wasn't this song. Lots of quickness and not much else. Seemed empty and void of melody.

star trail - 10/1177 - 1804; 687 430 44 5 22 AA -26 P: Hm. Esoteric, but not enough to make me denounce it as unfocused. I liked the evolution of instrumentation and melody but some of the deliberate syncopation might be what is keeping me from stating that I really like the song.

the limbo - 12/1618 - 2108; 773 562 150 48 180 A -49 F: Wow, that is one hell of a chart. Song is OK too. Good energy and restraint for the tempo.

the sampling paradise - 12/1642 - 2117; 737 643 157 27 148 A -72 F: Fan service to the extreme. Cute concept and difficult scratching, but still didn't exactly overwhelm me with a sense of incredulity.

thunderbolt - 11/1677 - 2411; 881 649 122 12 38 AA -197 P: HEY THIS SONG IS LOUD. Beyond that, it has more parts that I like than I don't (probably mostly due to the chart being decently demanding), despite the accursed fifth pitch up to end the song.

todestrieb - 12/1874 - 2383; 865 653 170 75 279 A -118 F: What makes a song not seem like it has nothing but scale masturbation is if said scale masturbation is not the only prominent part of the song; this song, for instance, manages to have an opening which builds tension, then gives way to some solo scale measures before the choral and percussion backing comes in to accompany. It's all about how well the elements blend together. This song does it well.

Trust -MATERIAL ver-(IIDX Edition) - 10/1401 - 2240; 921 398 60 6 26 AAA -250 P: Turns into an OK song eventually. Weakest part is the beginning where some weird countermelody phrase plays using some bizarre electronic tone which doesn't really fit with the rest of the song and doesn't show up therein as well. Likely deliberately so.

voxane - 9/1013 - 1659; 672 315 19 2 7 AAA -141 P: lol wut? Very strange overall but difficult to really have any big problems with. Voice samples are put to a new kind of forefront as good Remo Con percussion backs it up. One of the more unique songs IIDX has had in some time.

wonder walker - 12/1916 - 2511; 892 727 162 55 181 A -43 F: Woof. I just flew in from 1900 notes and boy are my arms tired. Song is serviceable, and pretty cute sounding without being overly annoying in such respect.

yaksha - 12/2033 - 2354; 781 792 258 79 206 A -356 F: I wonder if I honestly played this better in the warmup set than without Random here. Song is unrelenting and rather dark. I'm OK with this.

Coming up to the end, then it's time to run these through Extra Mode.
