In case you haven't heard, an item of news going around lately is that Penny Arcade is using Kickstarter to fund some podcasts. A few wrinkles about this as to why this is news worthy: a) Mike and Jerry already can fund this with their own capital, b) the goal was set at $10, which ensures that all pledges are received and eliminates any kind of risk, and c) the $10 goal also implies that they would have created the podcasts regardless. My single word gut reaction to this all is "why?", or at least "why use Kickstarter to do this?". You want to make a thing, things aren't free, you want to see how much of a market there potentially is as well. All fine so far. But it seems pretty apparent to me that the industry which these two currently have gives them ample framework to do so without utilizing Kickstarter at all. I see most of the arguments both for and against this meandering down wildly divergent paths, both for justification and for scorn. What I find being quickly lost amongst all of this is that there's nothing about this project which Kickstarter particularly helps them do as opposed to doing the project without Kickstarter. Or maybe to put it as my wife did when I brought this up to her:
[19'41"19] <Lenneth> save the KSs for people who actually need them jfc
But then we debate "who actually needs them". And then debate "leaving money on the table". &c.
Between this and cat grooming (fluffy cat has several knots which I need a razor and patience to remove), I haven't left myself much time to do any work today. Eh. I'll get there.
Songs started rather rough today but shaped up nicely. I knew that I hit Darling My Luv rather well in the course of playing it but I wasn't expecting an increase of 5%. I never had a record for that UN song because it's so bad, but upon replaying it now I come to realize that it at least can be played in normal sessions as it doesn't have hold notes, so I guess I'll make a point to play it a bit more frequently now (but not by much).
Lunar Beat. Extra Mode. Double play. "@" denotes Random chart modifier. All songs are of highest difficulty type unless specified.
