Today's forecast promised a substantial amount of rain, but thankfully that didn't come to fruition. Instead, there was an hour of light rain at about 8AM, and that's the extent of precipitation in the day.

A coworker from there is a cashier who is a 50-ish woman. In the usual exchange of daily pleasantries she always seemed to be amongst the most excited to see me and say hello. There have been a few days in the last week where she came to work sick and she wasn't acting in her normal fashion. Yesterday I asked if something was the matter and she rapidly began to start crying after saying no. I gave her my phone number at the end of the day yesterday with an offer for her to call if she needed to talk about something. Today, I saw her at her car at the end of her day while I was still on my shift, so I had time to ask her again to talk, and this time have a better venue for doing so. I won't divulge details beyond saying that her issues aren't related to anyone's death, but are severe enough to justify her distraught emotional state. After a bit of talking she did stop to effectively ask "Why are you doing this for me?", in reference for taking the time to listen to her. I explained my perception of her as I had stated earlier in this writing, but the question did linger within me after the discussion concluded. I haven't treated this woman any particularly different from any other coworker, yet I felt her perception of me as being different from others. Furthermore, she didn't necessarily need to expound on all of the issues, so there was nothing which I would consider to have forced her for her to say so much (and have enough trust in me to keep her issues private). I guess the most direct counter question would be to ask if or why she would think that I would have acted any other way. I see a woman who is normally happy suddenly break down into tears at the drop of a hat - how else could I have responded to that? By doing nothing?

The longer my essential streak of good song sessions extends, the more worried I am that the next down cycle will be twice as pronounced, both in terms of duration and inability to perform. In the meantime, I'm glad to see a day with yet another five score increases, and a run where the furthest I was from the record was the warm up song at a rate of 5% less. I think it was still less than a month ago that I had one day where all songs except one were at least 10% off of record.
