---Quote (Originally by Eurogamer)---
Sony has offered a glimpse behind the curtain at its mysterious new game Panopticon, a cel-shaded sci-fi adventure in development at SCE's Japan Studio.

Panopticon's first trailer was revealed after a week-long countdown on the game's official site.

The footage fails to mention a launch platform or release date for the title but comes accompanied by a date - 21st May - presumably when more information will be disclosed.

That is, of course, the same day as Microsoft's next-generation console reveal.

The timing of Panopticon's reveal suggests a PlayStation 4 release is likely (although, lest we forget, Sony is still announcing PS3 games).

Sony's Japan Studio is already at work on PS4 platformer Knack and is still helping Team Ico complete its much-delayed The Last Guardian.

The footage shows a totalitarian cyberpunk setting inhabited by humans and humanoid robots. The latter are able to see that each human has been branded with a number, and a woman is shown giving birth to a child with the number 1,000,000 - they're not all hers.

Skyscraper-sized rocket-firing dragons and a futuristic version of London also feature. Watch the trailer below and see if you can figure out what's going on.

Nintendo to Start Collecting Ad Revenue on "Let's Play" Videos Using Its Content

From IGN:

---Quote---
Nintendo has started claiming ad revenue on user-created Youtube videos featuring its games, according to reports from Youtube users.
Nintendo does not want to block videos containing content that it owns from appearing on Youtube (as many film and music publishers have), but it wants to place ads at the beginning and the end of videos featuring Nintendo games, such as Let's Plays, with that revenue going to Nintendo as opposed to the creator of the video.

Prolific Youtube channel owner Zack Scott has posted on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ZackScottFans/posts/10151890122200130) about the demands. "I think filing claims against LPers is backwards," he writes. "Video games aren't like movies or TV. Each play-through is a unique audiovisual experience. When I see a film that someone else is also watching, I don't need to see it again. When I see a game that someone else is playing, I want to play that game for myself! Sure, there may be some people who watch games rather than play them, but are those people even gamers?"

Nintendo has issued the following statement to GameFront (http://www.gamefront.com/nintendo-flexing-copyright-clout-on-youtube-lets-play-channels/) on the matter: "As part of our on-going push to ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way, we became a Youtube partner and as such in February 2013 we registered our copyright content in the Youtube database.“

"For most fan videos this will not result in any changes, however, for those videos featuring Nintendo-owned content, such as images or audio of a certain length, adverts will now appear at the beginning, next to or at the end of the clips. We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on Youtube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property."

Nintendo's right to protect its copyright is enshrined both in law and in Youtube's copyright guidelines (http://www.youtube.com/yt/copyright/faq.html), which state that just because you purchase something, it doesn't mean that you have the right to upload it. But this sets an uncomfortable precedent for Youtubers who make their living from Let's Plays and other self-created game content: they are now unlikely to feature Nintendo games, and if other publishers were to follow suit it would be a monumental shake-up.

Newly registered trademarks and domains point to Sonic's return in something subtitled Lost World(s). Sega Europe trademarked Sonic: Lost World just yesterday, and locked down domains for both SonicLostWorld.com and SonicLostWorlds.com on Monday, May 13.

The cerulean critter's last major outing, discounting Sonic 4 Episode 2, was Sonic Generations in November 2011. Sega's been teasing this year as a big one for Sonic fans, and you have to go back to the days of Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes for as long a gap between major 3D Sonic games.

We've reached out to Sega, but we suspect we'll find out more about Sonic's next outing, and whether it involves more than one lost world or not, at next month's E3 shindig.
---End Quote---
Since Generations was the best Sonic game in a long, long time, and Lost World implies dinosaurs, my hopes are high for this one. There's even a chance for a new character that doesn't suck!

Namco Bandai has announced Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, a 3D action title releasing this fall for 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC this fall, with a 2D side-scroller version hitting Nintendo's 3DS around the same time.

When he's not saving PacWorld from Betrayus, ruler of the Netherworlds, Pac-Man enjoys spending time with his friends, Spiral and Cylindria, who bond with the legendary hero as they "cope with the challenges of being a teenager."

Ghostly Adventures will tie into a new DisneyXD animated series produced by Marvel Studios founder Avi Arad. Pac-Man, who fights for "Friendship, freedom, and the future," will eat and fight ghosts, sometimes with the aid of new powers, one of which transforms him into an iguana-dinosaur-Pac-Man.

I haven't seen the game trailer on YouTube yet, though it's at the IGN link above. Here is the one for the cartoon:

edit: Geo found the game trailer:

This is certainly consistent with the Tekken level of quality we expect from non-Ridge Racer Namco games.

Relatively long article (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-05-13-defining-success-why-metacritic-should-be-irrelevant)

Interesting nugget:

The highest rated games I've worked on are Deus Ex and the Thief games. That's great. I'm hugely proud of the teams that made those games great (at least in my eyes!). Who doesn't like great scores, the awards that flow from them and the credibility with publishers they provide?

And you know what? Despite significantly lower Metacritic scores, Disney Epic Mickey is the best-selling game I've ever worked on, by a substantial margin. And the sequel, Disney Epic Mickey: The Power of Two, is the second best selling game in a thirty-year career.
---End Quote---
Despite its many flaws and the fact that I would never recommend basing bonuses on its results, I don't think we have a better way to objectively compare groups of games, such as system libraries or developer catalogs, than Metacritic scores. That said, it's much dicier for individual games, and it worries me that the algorithm/weighting has not been made public.

edit: From the comments on Facebook, where I originally saw this:

Did you know EA has an entire department of very talented and highly-paid individuals who's job is to accurately predict metacritic scores of EA games with a 3% margin of error? Activision has the same department.

In a surprising turn of events, Joyoland is planning to enter the American and European gaming market by releasing an English version of their PC port of Ys Seven in English.

This appears to be using XSEED’s script, and according to Tom with XSEED, but he has stated that it’s likely because Falcom owns the English language script, by all technicalities.

I will keep an eye open on this for more information.

Sounds good as long as the issues from the Chinese version are fixed- including the gross DRM. Just get it on GOG, or Steam with all the other Ys titles. Ditch SecuROM and use Steamworks CEG instead if you need DRM.

TBQH I wouldn't mind seeing Falcom do a Vita port with a 60 FPS graphic overhaul sometime.

I'm pimping these for my homie on Neo-geo.com. Frankly, I'm trying to help him get enough preorders to make this thing happen. These could be a nice, inexpensive alternative to shockboxes. The original thread is here (http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?243146-Windy-Gaming-Original-Product-Windy-Sleeves.-Preorder-now-available!).

Here is his post:

I have designed a line of low cost sleeves that will take up minimal shelf real estate and cost very little to ship. I have designed a whole line to cover all carts of all makes, models, and brands. There will be custom labeling available for free download from my website as well.

Now neo-geo.com is my home turf now so naturally my first two cases in the line will be neo related.

This is the MVS box:

Image: http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n488/cdamm1/IMG_4762_zpsc084a2a8.jpg
Image: http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n488/cdamm1/IMG_4764_zps05306be6.jpg

and now for something different-

Kits are made out of some expensive cardboard. There is no protection for them out there that I have seen either. Well, I made some.

Image: http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n488/cdamm1/IMG_4756_zpsedfe9405.jpg

Same exact design except now as an overbox for kitboxes as well. The purpose of the design is to prevent shelfwear. Custom Labeling will be available as well for the spines if you want to add some color to that collection of kits as well.

Image: http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n488/cdamm1/IMAG1280_zps571488fc.jpg

They fold flat for shipping as well.

Image: http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n488/cdamm1/IMG_4754_zps253404ed.jpg

They are made in the USA out of recycled and acid free cardboard. These were custom built and designed for MVS carts.

I am holding a preorder for these here at NG.Com first. Not on my website or on the FB page.

But how much does it cost you say?

MVS- $3.00 each
KIT- $3.50 each

MVS version $50 shipped special- 20 boxes for $50 shipped in the USA! (Thanks shadowkn).

Plus the actual cost of shipping.

There is also a price break for multiple pieces. For every 5 you purchase you will get one free during the preorder. That price break will change after the preorder.

My NG message box will not be able to handle inquires I may get. I have a special email address for this if you folks have any questions and/or want to preorder these boxes.

sleevepreorder@gmail.com

I plan on running the preorder for a month and shipping shortly after that. I will continue to make sleeves for other carts that are out there that will match these as well.

Thanks for any interest y'all have!

So a bit of background info on this game, *Fuse* (http://www.insomniacgames.com/games/fuse/#/home) is a new Insomniac IP (formerly called Overstrike) and is their first multi-platform game after having developed for Sony exclusively.

The initial trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCH8L8Ww3lY)for Overstrike showed a more cartoonish/stylized version of the characters (Dalton, Izzy, Jacob, & Naya):

Image: http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/9083/overstrike1920.jpg

Image: http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9082/overstrikegallery06.jpg

And even had prototype action figures to boot:

Image: http://imageshack.us/a/img268/4253/xlarge21efb087a260fe6e5.jpg

However, after Insomniac did focus groups they decided to change them to look more gritty and realistic and changed the name to Fuse:

---Quote---
"The game started out with a much more stylized and campy direction. We were actually going for something on the level of Ratchet & Clank, except with humans,” ... “Maybe it was going to appeal to gamers who, we thought at the time, might be in their late teens. The industry’s changed quite a bit… We would focus test the game in front of a lot of gamers, and get their opinion. These are people that regularly play PlayStation 3 and Xbox games. We started to discover that everyone thought this was a game for their younger brother. We would hear this from 12-year-olds. So we decided that we needed to make a game that had an older appeal."
---End Quote---
Image: http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2702/8886electronicarts2.jpg

Image: http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/25/urllxg.jpg

Image: http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9166/fusein003.jpg

So the latter images and name change is what we got.

I would have preferred the original designs since they seem a lot more unique and stylish but the new designs after getting used to them are okay even if veering into the more generic tactical look territory. Anyway, the demo's been out for a few days already and I initially was going to write it off as your typical run in the mill 3rd person shooter but it actually has some pretty fun game play built around each character's unique Fuse powered weapon and attributes which makes the game more focused on team play.

You can also play it just fine solo with the bots but I do think that it's one of those games that shine on online multi-player. If you liked games like Gears of War and Binary Domain this will definitely be in your wheelhouse. Now would I pick this up day one? I'm not sure just yet but I definitely want to play more of it, if any of you guys want to play it on Live or PSN just look me up.
