Internet service has returned. The person shown up, powered the modem a few times, ran the wall cable through a device that he had, noticed no abnormalities, did the normal reboots, and everything was fine. He offered no suggestions as to what the problem was.

We still had some periodic slowdowns during the day, so we allowed a technician visit that was scheduled on Tuesday to still occur. Got a call regarding a job application that I sent out some time ago, and I established that the person should call again tomorrow as I was in the middle of work at the time.
