My roommate and I were arguing over which Zelda is the best in the series. He says Link to the Past but I prefer the original. I was just wondering what some outside people might think.

Link to the Past, in my opinion. I have a hard time choosing between Link to the Past and Earthbound as being my favorite game of all time.
The puzzles in LTTP are amazing.
1)LttP
2)OoT
3)LoD
4)Seasons/Oracle
5)MM
(everything else)
I really like Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time, probably about the same amount. They were both such incredible games...Now I want to play Zelda again. :D
Link's Awakening, followed by Link to the Past and OG Zelda(I have yet to play the Oracle games).
As for the rest:
TOOT- only liked a few parts and the ending
Zelda 2- not bad but I prefer overhead Zelda
MM- never played
CD-i versions- hell no
Probably a tie between LttP and OoT. LttP was (or seemed) longer with more dungeons, pure classic gameplay, and was damned fun. OoT is one of a mere handful of games that is damn near perfection in 3D, while taking everything that was good in LttP and adding to it (aside from the wonderful forest in which the Master Sword was hidden).
Sweet Jesus, just thinking about OoT suddenly fills me with a massive urge to hook up my N64 and play it! It's been so long...
Ocarina of Time. I feel privileged to settle your argument.Quote:

Seriously, as much as I like the overhead style (I'm playing Oracle of Ages almost exclusively now), the genre was made for 3D, and Ocarina was the perfect realization of it. Nothing beats seeing a sprawling field or a gigantic boss in the Zelda world. And 3D combat sure as hell beats the sword thrusting mayhem in the overhead Zeldas. It helps that the N64 controller is heavenly. No more fumbling around with menus when you need multiple items.
The original would be my second choice.
LttP, then OoT. LttP ahead of OoT due to the fact that LttP saw the series reach it's peak as a 2D game. While OoT merely began the 3D chapter in the series. I love it, but it will probably be eclipsed by its later 3D cousins.
OK, I've never played either of the N64 versions (OoT is in my pile of shame :(), but having played all the others I have to go with Zelda II. I'm such a sucker for side scrollers. :)
OoT, naturally.
Mine shall be hooked up friday, after I buy Goldeneye again.Quote:

<--is having a Goldeneye party this weekend with all his friends, your all invited!
Does else anybody have the feeling that the new Cube Zelda will quickly climb to the top of this list? That is my must play game of the decade right now...
Ocarina of Time.
Fuck the old school...
I prefer OoT, myself. But Link to the Past is a VERY close second.
So, yeah.
Wow! That's quite a pile of shame. That game's almost 4 years old now. :sweat:Quote:

Hey:
Ocarina of Time. I personally think Link to the Past is seriously overrated.
-Technosphile
Ocarina of Time is better! But I'm a weirdo who had more fun with Link's Awakening than a Link to the Past. And I dug Majora more than OoT. And the first Zelda's still my favorite game ever. Yep.
I'm going to have to go with OoT myself. Lttp is a close second, but i think OoT is exactly what a zelda game should be.
Hmmm.
Destin... eh?
Zelda is my overall favorite series so it's hard to settle on one game, but I'll go with Link to the Past since I think it's the most well-executed.
Link to The PAst followed by OOT.
LttP, with OoT and Link's Awakening right behind it.
Link to the Past
Psst, this should've been a poll :)
this'll probably sound strange...
but i liked zelda 2 more than any of them.. with link to the past as a distant second..
maybe i'm just a bit detatched from reality right there.. oh well..
After playing OoT for the better part of the past hour... OoT did have the best atmosphere in the series, and some amazing graphics, which still look great today.
Man, it's choosing the best out an "all 10" series...
Where's the Oracle of Ages + Oracle of Seasons love?
Both of these games played together (which really should be done) is probably my favorite game. Second would probably be The Legend of Zelda, and then Majora's Mask.
Link to the Past all the way with Zelda II in close second
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
Link's Awakening
Link to the Past
Original
Adventure of Link
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
CD-i shiznit
Gonna have to go with A Link to the Past on this one. But thats just the overall best, my favorite is still The Adventures of Link(Admit it, you know you loved every minute of it. The perspective wasn't that big a deal).
I loved every minute of Zelda II: Adventure of Link. It is my favorite in the series.
And I'm pretty sure everyone in this thread who played it when it came out loved it as well. They're just too cowardly to admit it.
I havent played the oracle games, so here is my 3 favorites from what i've played
1. Ocarina of Time
2. The Legend of Zelda
3. Link's Awakening
EDIT- Yeah, I agree Zelda GC will probably be the best in the series. The game is just to fun to watch and has so much personality.
Link's Awakening.
Sleeve: you must consider Chibi Nappa one of the men among boys, eh? My save in the adventures of link died on me at the final dungeon.

i thought i was all alone.. :(
:D
Ocarina of Time, then Link to the Past, then Majora's Mask, then Link's Awakening, then Zelda 2, then the original.
I too shall say LttP in first place, with Majora's Mask in second.
Ocarina of Time, followed closely by Majora's Mask. I just like the series better in 3D. Btw, it seems like some of you guys haven't played Majora's Mask...run out and buy it. Great game, and very underrated.
1.Ocarina of Time
2.Link to the Past
3.Majoras Mask
4.Origional
5.Links Awakening
6.Adventures of Link
Ocarina of Time was perhaps a little too good =)
Easy.
Link to the Past.

Link to the Past, followed by Awakening followed by the original. Never cared for OoT and haven't played 2.
Amen brother.Quote:

Ocarina is definitely #1 for me followed by Zelda 3.
And I'm another Zelda 2 lover but it's nowhere near my favorite.
I have my doubts about Zelda GC surpassing Ocarina after Super Mario Sunshine letting me down.
rezo: Indeed I do.
Nope, hated it then too. As well as the other game exactly like it, Battle of Olympus, despite my friends loving that one.Quote:

Anyone know which poorly made game came first?
Sunshine wasn't as good as Mario 64, but I'm confident Zelda GC will be a better game than Ocarina. Maybe not as impactful as Ocarina, but better. And Ocarina is in my top 2 games of all time, so that shows just how much the demo impressed me.Quote:

Nutopia. Oh, you said Zelda.
Zelda II Is my favorite.
Either Link to the Past or the original. I enjoyed the graphical upgrade and great animation of the SNES game, the memorable music, decent story. But the original has a very special place in my heart and is one of my most beloved games ever. It's a really tough call, so I'll just say those two are tied in my heart :)
1. Link to the Past - best dungeon/overall game design IMO
2. Ocarina of Time - 2nd best, Z-targeting and camera problems dropped it by a notch.
3. Majora's Mask
4. Link's Awakening
5. Legend of Zelda
I have Oracle of Ages and it's good but the overall design felt lacking compared to Link's Awakening...
Clearly the best one ever is Landstalker:D
Anyway, If you ask me it's a toss up between LTTP and TOOT. On any given day I might prefer one over the other. I think they were all great games. MM for some reason didn't capture that magic for me that Nintendo sprinkles onto their franchises but I did think it was an excellent game, I can't really explain it. I found the 2 Oracle games to be overrated. I owned them both and didn't care enough to finish either. I would love Miyamoto to give us an all out never to be topped 2D new Zelda but we know that will never happen. I do look forward to the new GC one but I'm a bit skeptical after SMS myself. I love the new look by the way. It seems like the ultimate realization of the original game.
and it this ain't nostalgia speaking either...
Top three...
3. Ocarina of time
2. A link to the past
1. The legend of zelda...
Why you ask?
Because of that frigging mind bend second quest, that screweeeed with my head.
Good god.
I've enjoyed every Zelda game, but the gloomy atmosphere of Majora's Mask is what drew me in the most. You really get a sense in the game that "the end" is at hand, so to speak. Loved it.
I also like Zelda II and The Ocarina of Time.
