I'm writing a position paper on video game violence and the effects from playing them, and basicially I want to convey the message that they don't make normal people go ape shit and shoot people. But... doing my research I can't find a single god damn thing that is pro video game. Do you guys know of any articles or research that I could check out that says the crazy mothers are just that, crazy.

Many games today feature violence (you all know the type: GTA, Carmageddon, Quake, Doom, Pac Man.) But can these games really make you a good killer? Do they make you want to smack your bitch up?
Possibly.
A recent survey showed that 4/5 children aged 13 or 14 play games intended for people aged 15 or more. Of this same group of children 4/5 played games intended for people aged 18 or more. This is a whopping 80% of children breaking the law.
Loads of research has been made into the actual effects of the games, most of which is biased or just plain crap, so I'll just sum it up: All children who play violent games turn violent. Doesn't sound likely to me, but there you go.

So, it seems that violence in games is endorsed by most of the people who play them, but what about the parents of such people?

From the quotes, It seems that most people support the games industry and agree with the content of the games. Why is it then, that the whole world is obsessed with blaming them for everything? Why do people claim that they can induce violence in the real world? These are questions that can never really be answered, although some things are very apparent. Games are just for fun, a way to take a break from reality. But attachment to what is real and what is not is essential when playing games. To some people this seems like an obvious comment, but to a few people around the world it is important to be like their gaming alter egos.

Even though I don't think that's the fact, earlier this year I wrote an essay about going to Otakon and how it "changed my life." It was a good essay and I just bullshitted the parts about the influence and life changing experiences. I just wanted to have an excuse to write about it. I got a 98, I think she took points off for the End of Evangelion description, HA!
