Well I'm still awaiting my copy of this game to come out for Xbox although I've broken down and rented the PS2 version and a friend and I has a blast playing it in coop mode and we didn't even scratch the surface. We didn't try the multiplayer, the map editor, the challenges, hell we didn't even get past the first level. Fun as hell though.

I picked up the GC version on Thursday, though I haven't played it enough to get off the first level. So far, so good. Very Goldeneye-ish (first level, at least) with a beautiful framerate (as expected) and suprisingly good controls once customized (who the hell needs a crouch button over the ability to strafe?).
I picked up the XBox version last night and played a little of the single player mode. I did'nt like the default controls, but once I customized them, everything was fine. You can defenitely tell that this game was made especially with the PS2 in mind because the graphics looked very much like a PS2 game.
I've got a friend who couldn't wait to get the Xbox rev, but the sniper attacks have made him think twice (he's a sensitive guy, what can I say).
I'm gonna rent the Cube version - if it doesn't give me motion sickness, I may just pick it up. Monkeys + guns = yes please!
Some assorted impressions... (GC version) [posted in the other TS2 thread]
The graphics... are generally good, but not great. Some of the character models look fine, some look generally poor. The Timesplitters themselves look terrible in the opening cinema. The environments vary from level to level, although I'm not really impressed by any of the texturework. Neo Tokyo looks great, mainly for the amount of detail packed in there, but levels like the Wild West and Siberia look pretty utilitarian.
The control... seems fairly well-suited to the Gamecube controller, and the ability to customize is welcome. The aiming is awfully tight though, making sniping a chore. I find the game too frustrating to play without Auto Aim turned on, and I usually loathe Auto Aim.
The mapmaker... is disappointing at first as all it lets you do is use some crappy industrial-type setting. But my comrade, Spo tells me that you can unlock new themes and goodies to use in it. So, I'll reserve judgement on the mapmaker for now.
Fun? ... You betcha! Even though I have more then a few gripes, this game is an absolute blast. I've been through a little more than half the Story Mode on Normal and I've dabbled a bit in the Arcade and Challenges. There's a shitload of stuff to unlock.
The game moves nice and smooth, very fast, and the Story Mode levels are huge with plenty of goals to try to complete. Can't wait to get home tonight and start playing again.
EDIT: In case you haven't guessed, the Wild West is my favorite level so far... great stuff.

Anyway, I picked up Time Splitters 2 for GC last night and had time to play one mission in story mode and complete 3 of the challenges. So far it seems to have taken all the positive elements from TS1 (Superb multiplayer, awesome selection of guns, Challenges, 2 player Co-op, etc.) and added to them while at the same time improving on the negative area(s)of TS1. My only beef with the game so far is the controls aren't 100% customizable, but rather they are somewhere around 90% customizable because you cannot assign certain functions to the D-pad. Also, the aiming is a bit touchy for my tastes but perhaps this is just because I've been playing a lot of Unreal Tournament (PC) lately. Without going into too much detail, I think anyone who liked TS1 or Goldeneye should buy this game unless you don't have any friends, in which case you might want to consider renting it first...
I can't wait to start playing multiplayer :D

During the 1st mission when I'm outside the dam, the screen shakes intermittently. Almost like someone's messing with the vertical hold. All the other levels play fine, and when I enter the dam the problem disappears.
Can anyone tell me what the hell is going on?

I've been playing the game constantly since wednesday (GC version), pure gold. Even if you don't have people to play multiplayer with, still a must buy. If you ever get bored of the countless missions, challenges, arcade modes, and making your own maps, you can play the multiplayer modes all by yourself with TEN bots at 60fps. My favorite single player missions are definately the 1930's Chicago level and the Wild West level (feels like a Clint Eastwood simulator, ain't nothin wrong with that). The only single player mission I didn't like was the Return To Planet X level, it's funny as a spoof of the Skedar home planet levels in Perfect Dark, but it isn't actually a good level (unlike the other Goldeneye/Perfect Dark spoof levels, which are fantastic and clever). The Dam level pays homage to Goldeneye as well as it's infamous island across the water that you can't reach, by making an island across the water under that it looks like you can't reach and then cleverly you wind up out on the island without even seeing it coming. And the Atom Smasher level is a great spoof of Bond in general, Harry Tipper deserves his own game. One of the many awesome little touches I love in this game is that like in Duke Nukem you can go to computer terminals to check out security cameras. What makes it so awesome is that in this you can not only manipulate and turn off the cameras to avoid detection but some cameras have minigun's attatched to them that you can control to take out unsuspecting guards. Very satisfying. There's a NeoTokyo level that spoofs the Perfect Dark sabotage-the-taxi level, and it starts off with a really kickass Matrix-style cinema. The game is in the spirit of Conker in that each level is spoofing something, if not Goldeneye and Perfect Dark then The Godfather movies, Clint Eastwood movies, the Resident Evil movie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Goldfinger, The Matrix, Alien, every time you play you'll notice a new reference. It's all very cleverly done and much more subtle than Conker, it's not trying to make you break out laughing the way Conker did, it just wants to put a smile on your face. Great games are hard to come by, especially ones that everyone has access to. Here's one that's on all 3 platforms and will last you From Here To Eternity. Wait a sec, did this game spoof that too......

It's not the game, it's my custom RGB cable that's acting up. Everytime the screen fills with white, it starts to shake intermittently.
Hopefully I won't have this problem with other XBox titles.

Some of these Arcade Challenges are fucking evil. Anybody tried the one where you have to eliminate 8 minigun-wielding gingerbread men? Or the one in the hospital where you have to shotgun at least 40 duck-men in 3 minutes? I did eventually beat the gingerbread men challenge, but the duckmen were too much for me.
I just hope I don't dream of anthropomorphic ducks tonight.

Has anyone with the Xbox rev tried the system link option?? I am really looking foward to trying that. I really liked the first timesplitters, but I think the controls are tighter and more responsive in part 2. Anyone else agree?

Agreed. I am stuck about half way through the Honorary arcade league and man, it is hard as crap. I'm really having trouble with the team based levels (CTF is almost impossible) and levels involving a lethal combination of the rocket launcher, a massive kill count, and a ridiculous time limit.Quote:

Despite the ridiculous challenge I am still loving every minute of TS2 :D
Well, I picked up the Gamecube version this last Wednesday. It's been a blast. Definetly better then the other two GC fps out at the moment.
My only complaint is that too much stuff is locked from the start, and it would be nice to know what unlocks what. Still, it does add butt loads of gameplay value/hours.
Anyone else notice that aiming and firing with the C-stick is hard. I'm not sure if my controller's just seeing it's last days, or if the stick is just too unweildable for the game.
I'm hoping to pick up this game later tonight. I've palyed through about half the levels on easy and find them a little too easy even for easy, but im sure normal is pretty hard and hard will hopefuly take me weaks to beat. Also I have to agree with weeman33 about the aiming. it takes a little getting used to but once you play a while you start to get used to it. I also like the feel that you are playing Bond and House of The dead at the same time (fighting guards and zombies). The boss fights are pretty cool. Overall I think its a great game.
i just found out that you can change the controls just for aiming, so if you enjoy using only 1 joystick for looking both up and down and left and right you can. that helps me a ton when snipping
Ah I finaly beat the challange Pain In the neck (thats the one were you shoot all the pain glass windows i think). It was so hard, but when i finaly beat it I kicked its ass.
I'm about half way through story mode, and I am really enjoying it thus far. It really suprised me how TS2 remains silky smooth even with all the chaos going on. In fact, it's going to be pretty hard trying to go back and play Perfect Dark after exeriencing no slowdown whatsoever in TS2. I give a sincere hail to Free Radical for keeping this baby locked in at 60 FPS.
I dont know about the rest of you but i cannot beat the first level on hard. I thought normal was pretty easy, but hard is just kimpossible. After the checkpoint I just royaly screwed. Hows everyone else doing on hard?
also does anyone know if you can unlock cheats such as infinte ammo and invincibilty cause i wanna know if once i beat everything I can go back and beat the shit out of every little fuck that gave me problems, after i beat everything of course. Im not one to use cheats to help beat the game, only to mess around.
I have only one question. Why does no one complain about the lack of an aiming cursor? Even when not in "aim mode," wouldn't it be nice to know where you're shooting?

This feature wasn't in TS1, so I was already accustomed to it before I booted up TS2. Play the game for a little while, and I can almost gurantee that you will realize a cursor isn't necessary to aim properly. However, it would have been nice to at least have some sort of option to use an aiming cursor.

-Am suitably bewildered at the sheer amount of bots, maps, and game modes that are unlocked in this game when all is said and done.
However, can someone please answer me this. Even after all that, I only have four tile sets to work with in the mapmaker. Alien, Industrial, Virtual and Victorian. I am told there are more... is this true, and if so, how are they unlocked?
I'm only now starting to get serious with the mapmaker, and I'd like to work this out before I start investing a lot of time putting together some maps.
EDIT: Just read the above posts... That's funny, I have a cursor when I'm in Aim Mode.
i think they were reffering to when they are not in aim mode.

Dacaz: I've beat less stuff than you have then and I've got about 10 tile sets, my only guess is either I've got golds and platinums on things you don't or you're not going to advanced mapmaker instead of beginner
I'm definately in Advanced Mapmaker. But when I go to select the theme, those are the only four I can choose. Can you give me a list of the other tilesets you've unlocked. :(

I still can't seem to beat the mission in Honorary League where you have to kill 40 duckmen with the shotgun. I usually get close -- one time I finished with 39 -- but those damn ducks are so hard to hit! And when they gang up on you, you're totally fucked.
Anyone have some tips?
yeah i barely made it through with a bronze. if only therer was an automatic it would be a little easier.
That one's awful. You need to hole yourself up on a balcony. There's one that's slim that overlooks one of those churchy areas. Get two shotguns, peak around the corner, then shoot the ducks as they pop up. Reload after every shot and you'll do fine.Quote:

Yep, I blasted around for a little while and then holed up in a corner. They sought me out pretty quickly and I just kept blasting away. I gave myself a little room to fall back to the wall if I had to. It took me a lot of tries, and I just barely sqeaked by with a bronze.
for those of you who haven't played the one where you have to use bricks against the crypt zombies, let me tell you now that it is pure hell. you cant aim worth shit with the bricks, but if you find a good spot you can take'em out one by one. i couldnt even get bronze but then i found good spot and got platinum.

has anyone beat Men In Gray with a gold? I;m not sure what I'm doing wrong. Do you have to take out all the sentry guns and how many fuel can are there that you have to take out?
I really hate you guys. After reading this thread, I couldn't take it anymore and went out and bought the game. I was planning to get it a self-birthday present in early November, but my patience ran out.:D

I saw a post on another forum saying that by looking at the dish I believe and pressing a specific button he was warped to some sort of mini game... anaconda or something. Can anyone confirm this?

There are cartridges hidden through some of the levels. You plug these into your little temporal tracker and you can play simple games like Anaconda or Astro Lander on them. It's fun!Quote:

I want to know how everyone else is doing in arcade league. I myself have all but one gold in the first leauge(damn Men In Gray). and most golds and platinum in honorary, and have only played a few on elite. I have only unlocked funny hats and rotating heads cheats. Anyone know what some of the other cheats are?
does anyone find some of the challanges to be rediculously hard?
I have all golds and one platinum in the amateur, and all golds through burns 'n' bangs in honorary. I've got silvers in the second to last honorary, and bronzes in the last one. Have not played elite.Quote:

Me, me, I have! :) I didn't take out any of the guns, (I didn't even realize you could until the last honorary level) just rushed in to get each checkpoint. Don't remember how many cans there are, I pretty much ran in, took out a barrel, and got killed, then did it again. Ignoring all the baddies and the guns made the runs quicker.Quote:

You don't have to look at any dish, just pick up one of the three game cartridges found throughout the game and press the reload button with your Temporal Uplink equipped. You can select the game on the menu that appears.Quote:

I have. Get to the waterfall by 1:30. Blow up all the barrels by 2:30. Then you should be able to do it. You don't have to take out the guns. There's 6 oil barrels, I believe. Two out in the open, one in that ruined building, one on a roof, one by teh entrance to the base, and one tucked away on the right side.Quote:

yeah i kept forgeting about that one tucked away to the right. but once you know where everything is its just not getting wasted over and over and over again.
im enjoying what i've played so far, have only messed around with the story mode. i really liked the fact that i was able to customize my buttons exactly how i wanted them.
Hmmm...I've considered picking this up even though I'm not much into console FPS games. I'm still holding on the verdict on which of the three versions is the best before I invest in one.

There is no "best" version. They are just about identical. It all boils down to your preference. Some things to note.
-Gamecube and XBox have four controller ports so it is much easier to play a four player game.
-I've heard you can play Ts2 online on Xbox the same way you play Halo, but I am unsure how true this is as I own the Ps2 version.
-IMO, this game was "built for Ps2". Meaning the controls are tailored to the Ps2 controller. The four shoulder buttons really come into play. One for fire, one for alternate fire, one for duckin and one for "Aim mode". In my opinion aim mode is important to the overall gameplay and the Ps2 setup is the most convieneint. You can completely customize your controls on the other systems, but I don't think any of them will match the four shoulder buttons. Hoever this is all down to your opinion and how important you find aim mode to be.
-The Xbox version has bugs. Awards in multi player are "cut off". The sound skips at times and I've heard it can freeze. I've never experienced these on my ps2 version and I've not heard of them being in the gamecube version either.
So, like I said, there is no clear cut best version. It just depends what you are looking for. Ts2 is absolutely amazing though, so just get one. :D
ARGH!!! I cant get passed all the special forces agents in Sibeira on hard. Any tips on how to take them out and make it to the chopper with enough health to last?
There doesn't seem to have been much chat about this, or if there has I can't use the search function properly.
I was playing this at the weekend in Co-op, and though the quality of the levels does decline, for a decent post-Halo FPS with a great co-op mode - look no further.
Double teaming enemies, while your partner has a sniper rifle is superb, especially id they cover your back by taking out the camera while you let rip with the heavy guns.
TimeSplitters 2 is the best FPS ever made IMO

What IYO makes it so? I prefer Halo for 1 player and coop. And Quake 3 on DC for ease of online play and some good old intense rucking.
TS2, as I said before has some nice mission variety, but the levels vary in quality wildly.

I guess what this thread boils down to, is just how much a decent co-op mode can enhance an FPS, or any other genre of game for that matter.
TS2 was cool of only for the Bond level, although there were some other good ones as well. Better than Halo? Nah, that's crazy-talk. But it is great, and the multiplayer kicks arse. But something seems to be missing...hmmm...I wonder what that could be, Eidos?
I agree with this as well. Although TS2 is a great game, tons of stuff to unlock. The map editor is great to screw around with. Definately worth the fifty bucks for me.Quote:

Yeah, TS2 is one great game.
I actually like the Quantum Leap-esque Story Mode. It's fun and it's got lots of variety. It might not be as strong as Halo's story but it's still cool. And the combat in TS2 is just so polished and fun. Something about it just feels really right to me. I think the locked 60 fps gameplay has something to do with it.
BTW, anyone using the Search function to find a thread with a numeral in the title needs to omit that numeral from the search box. Otherwise you won't find anything.

Cheers for updating my comments on this. Mucho appreciated. I thought the Quantum Leap element was great too, but so far (I'm not that far in) I think a common thread needs to run through the missions. They all seem a bit too separate so far.
I enjoy this game, but I really wish I got the PS2 version. No matter how I seem to configure my controls on the GC controller, I always have to sacrifice the crouch button in order to be able to strafe.
Why? The Cube controller's analog sticks are so much more precise than the dual shock's, just use a dual analog configuration on your Cube controller. You can't move while staying crouched really anyway.
I noticed no difference in precision among analog sticks and I've played multi-player on all three versions. What I did notice, as UndeadKing pointed out, is the ability to map every function to the PS2 pad. Unless I am overlooking something, I am not able to do this on the GC pad. I'm not disappointed in the GC version, I would just like to be able to use every function in the game, rather than sacrificing one in order to strafe.Quote:

I love this game, but I am pretty casual when it comes to FPS. I just love the massive amounts of unlockables, and all the characters and levels are wonderful, especially if you are like me, and customize your levels to dumb little "themes"...I kinda wish they had included a few more unlockable weapons, but they do fine. I also like all the statistics...like how many miles you have traversed and heads/limbs blown off. I got a gold trophy in the Insomniac stat for playing 6hours 54minutes and 53seconds straight. It doesnt have the most hardcore of controls, but its more of a multiplayer madness kind of game (see: Monkeys and Bricks)
