If this was discussed before, please forgive me.
If you have played Shenmue 2 (import) on the Dreamcast is there any reason to buy the XBOX version?
Just curious

Yes, every female character in the Xbox version is topless.
come on guy , I am being serious
It seems this boards new #1 pass time is sarcasm... :o
your right. everybody is a comedian, if anyone knows about Shenmue 2 for the XBOX and how it compares to the DC version. Please reply
English voice acting... oh wait that's bad :p
I think it has more characters on screen and the graphics have been upgraded some... I couldn't tell much of an increase while playing the E3 demo though.
You could check out this page called Shenmue X Factor which is a page setup by Microsoft explain the differences and advantages over the Dreamcast version :)
You get a Shenmue DVD movie with the Xbox version... gameplay-wise, it seems to be port-perfect with some minor graphical touches. At least from what I've seen...
Advantages of the Xbox version:
-- Shorter load times (about 6 seconds) and save times
-- Better image quality (less jaggies and flicker)
-- No slowdown
-- Better lighting and shadows
-- A nice effect on the water
-- Some nice filters (including a cool 'realistic' one)
-- A camera function (it's Shenmue Snap! :p)
And of course the game is in English. I like it but I know many people will cringe. The quality of the voice acting is on par with the US Shenmue 1 and uses the same actor for Ryo.
I guess the biggest draw for me is hearing the amazing soundtrack in 5.1 digital sound.
Aren't there less load times too? I know when I played the DC one they were somewhat long.
All the changes are asthetic.
Not really gameplay changes so I guess its up to you.
I know I'd buy it either way, however I am not you.
Am I the only one who dug the voice acting in the U.S. Shenmue?
thanks for the info guys. I am considering selling the DC Version and getting the XBOX one. I would like to play with the english Voices and call me crazy, but after the hours of playing Shenmue I kinda liked Ryo's voice.
Yes :bs:Quote:

You guys are missing the biggest selling point - you wont get AIDS!
Uhhhh what?
Ryo's english voice wasn't bad, it was some of the other characters that weren't so good
No...I too dug the English dub, Especially Ryo's voice actor...Quote:

"Let's get sweaty"
I need that to chime in when I start up the PC...
No, Ryo was fine, there were the occasion weird phrases like th afformentioned "lets get sweaty" but overall i think it added to the Cinematic feeling in the game.Quote:

Tom on the other hand, or Guro (SP?) yeah they sucked.
I waited on the DC rev, so I could get the Xbox rev with english voices, I dont wanna have to read, dammit. :)
Yeah, like thats a past-time. :rolleyes:Quote:

I'm all about the sarcasm! :D
Yu Suzuki loved the dubs so much, he released "Shenmue US" so that the people of Japan could experience the version that we did.
I loved the dub.
i remember reading about the Shenmue Movie DVD having japanese and english audio and japanese subs. is there english subs? cause i want english subs too!
:bs:Quote:

I saw a few clips of this game. Good god the voices suck. Ryo sounds more boring than ever, and Shenhua is way over the top in the prologue.
Such a shame the JP voices weren't included.
I loved the US voices I thought it brought a certain charm to it. If I had an X-Box I'd definitely get it. Sadly I could see this one bombing too being among the flood of games(FLOOD I TELL YOU FLOOD!). Plus the boxart isn't really that appealing as hard as they tried to fix it up amongst the other titles(well except maybe Sly cooper I can barely notice it on the shelves at times).
Cool graphic filter over the graphics... makes everything look a bit more sustantial.
Bumped up textures - everything seems brighter.
ALOT less loading
No Slowdown
Shenmue the Movie included
english voices and japanese voices - an option
Bad cover art
Water looks nicer.
ºTracer
So they did keep them in? Every review I've seen of the game says they didn't.Quote:

Goro and Tom kicked all of your asses.
There is no option to use the jap voices that I saw... which is fine by me. I like playing and seeing images, not reading.
And yes. To date, I had to administer AIDS tainted needles to 42,862,915 asses. I'm coming to your town SOON, so have that copy of Shenmue 2 US handy, or *poke*....
Finally beat it :), the ending is great and let you getting more, to bad that Shenmue III don't have a release date yet [if Sega is planning in to making it]
But I have some complains [minor ones of course :)]:
Spoiler!!
Spoiler!!
Spoiler!!
1. The training suck, I like better the way you could train the move in the first Shenmue.
2. They took out my recorder and all my music, one of my favorite things in the first Shenmue was hearing the music that you get from the Tomato Shop wile you were waiting for the time to pass or waiting for the buss.
3. The Saturn!! Were is my Saturn?!?
4. Fighting in first person view suck, most of the time when you are fighting against lots of thugs you can't see from were are you getting hit.
That are all my complains about this game, like I say they are minors. Can't wait for the next Shenmue and see how the story evolves :). Now if all of you excuse me, I got to star a new game of Shenmue II
Got mine. Everyone should buy as many copies as they can and just sell them on Ebay to get their money back. At least that way Sega will think they are selling more copies right away. And Shenmue 3 might happen. I doubt it, but still it couldn't hurt.
I'll stick with the PAL DC version until the Xbox version goes down in price. There doesn't seem to be enough to make me want to spend $50 on it again. Also, I can use my save from part one on DC! :p

Majin, does it unlock the movie of the Saturn version of Shenue when you beat it? The Japanese DC version did.
yes it does :)Quote:

Spoiler!! Spoiler!!!
Also unlock a option to fight in the street fights in Kowlon and the boss fight in B3 the one when you rescue Joy :) but since i just play the game to finish it quickly and didn't unlock everything
[edit] Also you can play all the arcades games, that is if you play then before finishing the game
Get back here you bastard! *chases Melf with dirty needles*Quote:

Looks like you sm2 had best sell well if the series is to continue:
gamefront.de
03.11.02 - Shin Ishikawa, producer with Sega-AM2, spoke in the newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun about the future of Shenmue. Therefore it depends on the sales figures on Shenmue II for the Xbox whether it will give a third part. ' the sales figures are satisfying, stand the chances for Shenmue III very well ', said Ishikawa.
It did not answer the question, on which platform Shenmue could appear III.
The Saturn Shenmue movie is more than enough reason for me to get the game. I actually like the boxart, although that green case...
It took a year to turn the DC version into this? Did they spend 11 and a half months playing Space Harrier or something?
I'm sure three months were spent on the visual filters... Which I may use actually.
So there's no option for a Japanese vocal track?
Hmmm...
Just thought I'd mention:
www.gamefront.de has a mention of Shemnue III, and it's listed under the multi-system header. The work station I'm on won't let me send the text to a translator so I have no clue what it says...
*-neo
I don't trust anything from a site like that. I'm sure it's an assumed release. It hasn't been announced, and a .de site... c'mon.
Uhh...the camera in most fights sucks ass in this 'game'.
I'm meeting Ren now, when exactly does it get good?
Why are you playing it if it sucks so bad?
2 reasons:
People here say it gets '2x better than Shenmue' and 'becomes a work of art' by the end.
I cannot say if it's good or bad until I have finished it.
You know you love it Matt...that's why you keep comin' into these threads. :D
Love what?
for 5 bucks, to rent the game, I'll give it a chance, and I'll play it to the end. I don't think that means I love the game though.
I'm surprised at how many people (in my area) are buying this game.
Its twice as good if you're into Shenmue. I enjoyed the experience of the first game, admired the ambition of it all but in the end I didn't care to spend all day walking around and looking at stuff till a VF Lite battle took place. Shenmue 2 to me was just more of that.
The next chapter after the one you are on is the best for gameplay, and then it takes a hard left for the last chapter which is very serene, and character oriented. Which you prefer depends on you.Quote:

Personally I couldn't disagree more with your taste in games, so I'm not sure you'll like either.
This free fight camera sucks. It would be better to have a locked camera, rather than one that rotates around and seems to pick crazy angles.
So far, it's a tad better than Shenmue (70/100), and, though I do enjoy the skipping of some parts (such as going to a location instantly in some areas or passing time waiting instantly), there is still much monotony.
In progress judgement: 75/100.
also, twice as good as if you like it, that's what is known as a Chau-ism.
"This game is great, I like it, though you may not like it if you don't like this type of game. If you do, then you will like it."
The ones who say its twice is good are the Shenmue fans. Twice the size, twice the story, twice the fights, twice the cutscenes, twice the walking, twice the looking! Though there are improvements in Shenmue 2, the gameplay and structure remains the same, so if you didn't like the first one you won't like the second one.
I understand that, but, that's hardly objective:
If you like it, it's 2x better.
If you don't like it, it's 2x worse.
I think some good additions have been made to the game, but, that fighting view needs work. The pacing isn't too bad, a bit better this time around. I'm not digging the story so far, not on a level some seem to.
