So I'm thinking about moving away.....

Seriously, I've been contemplating this for what seems like forever now and I've come to the decision that I need to get out of Central Ohio. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against this fine city, but I need a change. I've had a great 21 years here but that's enough for now. I don't have anything really tying me down here, just my family & a handful of friends (only one of which I would call a "good" friend). I'm only working at 2 pathetic (money-wise) part time jobs so that's nothing. I've got around $1500 to my name, I own my car outright now and I've finally paid off all those pesky credit card bills. My question is, where should I go?

I'm not looking to move into a big city or huge suburban area (like here), just a quiet nice place to stay where I can find some kind of work. I'm just asking for all your opinions on where you live or a cool place you've been before. I duno, maybe I'll end up staying here... no damnit for once I need to follow through on something, I will be living somewhere else by the end of summer.

Maybe you should just quit your shitty jobs, and take a drive around the country for a little whille.

After a month or so of travelling and clearing the webs out of your noggin, maybe staying home (or moving away) will make a little bit more sense to you.

Yeah, I'm in Northern Ohio, and there really isn't much here. However, I've also moved three times in the last four years, so I really wouldn't be happy about moving again anytime soon.

Take a break, call a month off work if you can, and go travel. Visit some cities, find somewhere that looks it would be fun, and then begin to plan to move there (check out establishments, pick up a few applications so you can pass them around or mail them right before you move, find somewhere to live and make plans with the landlord to move in at such-and-such a time, etc.). A trip might be what you need, although a complete change of pace can sometimes be the only remedy. I know I need one, but don't feel like actually trying to do it just yet...

Whatever you do don't move to Freeport, IL...

I lived there for 22 years. There isn't shit in a small town. I have now lived in Chicago or the suburbs rather (Lombard) and I don't regret a minute of it. Everyone up here is much more friendly, which seems odd when a smalltown should be more friendly and down to earth. But smalltowns suck, everyone is more worried about what you do, have and got then their own life. Completely pathetic!!

I would say take a trip to each of the coasts and see if either one of those trip your trigger...if not then I would say move to Chicago or a suburb...

Its a great place to live or "The place to be!" (as our town slogan goes!) its good, quiet not too big and theres stuff to do. Us Canadias are fun peopl nice too! :D you'll find work fast, and meet lots of cool people, plus you not to far away from home! and the money you have now will strecth nicely!! hahhaha...

philly is a nice city to live in. not as big as new york. Its a quiet city and you'll definitely find a job to your liking.

Xeno - Try living in Toledo, OH for 24 yrs and try not thinking about killing yourself. I moved down to Columbus almost 3 years ago, and outside of having no life because of a full time job, and not knowing a single freakin soul down here, it's not too bad. I can't imagine not getting tired of a place after living there so many years. As far as advice on where to go... I have nothing to suggest being I very rarely get out of this damn state.

I feel your pain. I live in Toledo when not at college. Such a boring place. :confused:

Thanks for all the advice. The road trip idea sounds great, I was thinking of driving out to E3 this year and I may just extend that trip a bit.

Oh, and there's no way in hell I'd move anywhere near Chicago. I was there a little over a year ago and the highway system drove me frekin nutz! No offence, I just couldn't take it.
