One thing that really helped me out score wise was learning the fine art of coin combos. I'm by no means an expert in the field, but it really helps to improve your scores when you are doing levels where you have no clue how to make the fish looking guy appear to dish out free jewels.Quote:

Marginal improvement. Pretty much akin to previous runs at 1-6, just happened to have some better scoring early on.
Time to really start practicing stage 6 (7, if you count 'em like they do in the stage select). I'm getting there often enough now to make it worth my while.

I've expanded the chart to a top 20, and will go even further if need be. This is for two reasons
- It was getting fairly difficult for casual players to rank in, and thus probably a bit discouraging.
- It's a shame to have so much participation in a single competition with so little to actually show for it.
So I've filled out the chart as best I could based on what has been submitted during the course of this thread, but I imagine some will be needing to re-submit. So by all means, post away and we'll get your hard-earned digits accounted for.
Decided it was time to get back into the shooter groove, and I picked GB2 to start with because its hard as a rock, and a good basic shooter (outside the maddening coin chains and gem heads).
Incidently, for the japanese village, just as you cross the first bridge, destroy the walker on the bridge, then quickly move to the top left to take out the second walker so he can't cause you any problems, then move to the RIGHT ending pillar of the bridge and just sit there. Gem head will appear every time. Naturally, that's the only one I can consistently trigger :P The other three on the first stages I cannot do consistently. Quite annoying.
I have managed to nail down coin chaining to be more consistent, which has helped my score a lot (I've hit my old score a stage earlier, and that's with my current trouble with the gem heads, and I was hitting them before when I was last playing).
But on the downside, I'm going slightly nuts screwing up repeatedly in fairly easy sections. I think the change of characters, coupled with being out of it for a few months, and my more aggressive attempts at chaining are causing me some problems as my brain struggles to hammer it all into a cohesive playthrough.
Time to go bang my head against the rock a few more times.

745,700 - danhaigh / Marion 1-6
I'm waiting for the shaking to subside. Still didn't pass the 1-6 boss, though this time I got to him in perfectly fine shape to have done so. I just couldn't calm myself down enough to handle him. Ended up running out of real estate during his spiral-y aimed assault due to overdodging.
In any case, this score is mostly due to putting together some respectable scoring, Victrix's much-appreciated explanation of the Japanese village gem-head, and my own discovery of the 1-5 gem-head. For those who've been searching for it, try wiggling on the bottom, about 1/4 of the screen from the left side, just after the third walker starts firing. I can try to elaborate on that explanation if anyone wants.
One of the elements holding back my progress score-wise is that I'm only just learning to bomb gem-heads for maximum value. Mode7 taught me the technique, so I will leave explanation and elucidation to him (you're welcome).
The other big barrier is that I still haven't cleared 1-6, but I should stumble into that shortly. Actually deserving that clear will come later.
