Ha, Hei-Cob totally sux! Then again, I thought Morrigan wasn't all that great either, and, well... :o
About the Mode7 method for the 1-4 boss, second form: I was playing and I Powered Down twice (on purpose, of course), and I was able to get a Power Up from the red enemy... then when crossed sides (the only place you're supposed to Power Down), I was able to easily get another Power Up from another red enemy, getting my Power Level to where it should be! Maybe this part isn't so "fate-determining" after all. The only thing is, where the red enemies actually come from seems kinda random: right, top, or left? More testing I suppose...
And my site should be updated really soon... :wtf:
You can power down entirely with no major repercussions and without relying on the appearance of the power-up enemies during the 1-4 boss (which requires you to power down earlier, putting you at additional risk if they should fire). You just need to make damn certain that you can grab the power-up from the first "walker" enemy of the 1-5 stage without being powered down by the swarms of smaller dive-bombing enemies. Tougher than it sounds, actually, but entirely possible to work out consistently.
Um, I say "fate-determining" to mean, "if you Power Down more than you're supposed to, you're not going to have enough charge for 3 yo-yos," which is what you need to destroy it, right? I'm not good enough to consistently dodge the spiral that follows, and the cross after that gets me every time.
Note that I discovered the Rapid Fire feature on the Dreamcast stupidly late (as in, this week  ), and with that, I noticed that Powering Down twice, I still have just enough for that 3rd yo-yo. I'm basing my experience on arcade play, where I couldn't have tapped the fire button that fast for that long, only giving me enough charge for 2 yo-yos, forcing me to use another bomb. Sure, I'm the best at my arcade, but it's still shameful...
It only takes two yo-yos to drop him, and I can generally do so with a couple melee attacks to spare. Are you staying close enough to ensure a boosted charge rate?
For the criss-crossing pattern, use very small dodging motions. Running about the screen will get you killed every time. But really, he shouldn't even be surviving that long if you're in his face with the yo yos.
For the sky stage's bird boss, I found a landmark that
helped me locate the safe spot in the boss's loose spray
attack. Try using the bird's skeleton.
http://www.shmups.com/beepreying/gb2/safespot.png
While the boss is stunned for losing its legs, I would
align horizontally the top of Alucard's head with the tip
of the bird's fourth bone from the right. You guys should
be able to use a similar landmark for your favorite
characters.
Well, not the best score since I was going for pure survival:
306,700 Superstition / Tavia 1-4
I'm playing in original mode one since I'm not all that hot about flipping my 27" WEGA on its side.
Have any of you fared better using the Agetec Arcade Stick instead of the Dreampad? I was thinking about finding one and see if it improves my game.
Personally, I play better with a stick. I think it may be my arcade roots, it just works better for me.
It's totally a preference thing though, ymmv (totally).
-Jef
...who believes real mean play with sticks :)
Umm... hmm.
Original Mode is... yucky. When I had to go back I couldn't trigger a single gemhead, and since you actually lose movement area, I couldn't get to the hiding spot in the 1-4 boss' 2nd form, and the 1-5 boss' 1st form was impossible. I played better on my side, even though I have a huge headache just remembering it...
Pads VS Sticks: I play my absolute best at the arcade; I bought an X-Arcade stick and I'm sorry to say it doesn't quite match up, since the base can and will move around when you go up (it happens less often when I sit on the floor, but meh), and "tapping" movements are much more finicky, though I suspect this just means I have to get another stick and install that somehow. So although I couldn't imagine even beating the game with a pad (since quick left-right movements were impossible, and moving down often meant moving down and to the sides, due to the horrible design of the DC controller itself), I couldn't imagine playing without it. Though if I did order a stick from Happ Controls, I wouldn't know which one to get... help?
As for the 1-4 boss' 2nd form, it still takes me 3 yo-yos, though I can throw 2 and kill it with regular shots before I have to do serious dodging. Luckily I can now dodge that too, so no worries. And I actually did try that "tap down as you need to" tactic I created and it works beautifully! And to be honest I can't really use that landmark... just me.
Finally I updated my Personal Bests page - most notably my "earliest extend," which is now after the first few gems of the 1-5 gemhead. I bet Rob gets his extends in 1-4...
I think I'm going to further revise my 1-6 and 1-7 strategies since I relied too much on dying. Perhaps I can just go through the stage with the 2nd highest power level... :sneak:
Personally, I'm not a big fan of HAPP sticks. I'd check out Arcade Infinity's website and try and get a Japanese ball-type stick. It's short, has a small ball on the top, and it very clicky; just the way I like them :>Quote:

Thanks for the link! I don't think a Japanese style stick would fit in an X-Arcade, but I am planning on replacing the buttons on my Tekken Tag Tournament Hori stick.
Perhaps a Korean stick would be great... if I could find one cheap...
Haha. No. At the very beginning of 5, but never have on 4 yet. That's a goal of mine.Quote:

It would take a "perfect" or near perfect game, getting 500,000 on the first 3 since the fourth only gives about 100,000 even. I've gotten close to the 500,000 mark, but then I'll miss the gemhead on 4 or something stupid. The closest I've gotten on 4, I think, is about 590,000, or 10,000 away.
My 6 plan needs some revising. Is it just me or is 6 harder than 7? I always use 3-4 bombs on the level 6 boss (2-3 on first, 1 on second form) and almost always figure in a death on level 6 to "reset" the difficulty. If you want a big score, you can't be powering down a lot, because those 4,000s really add up.Quote:
I think I'm going to further revise my 1-6 and 1-7 strategies since I relied too much on dying.
Well, I do think 1-6 is harder, since there can be a lot of variations.
It seems to have a lot of difficulty levels which you have to keep in mind pretty much all the time. The spinny dudes' spread shots can either be easy, or require some bit of consciousness, or force you to throw out a bomb (of course I make sure to Power Down as I beat the 1-5 so that's not a problem). Also those green dude's screen-filling dots can either be avoided entirely (which is the case if I die) or require you to navigate your way through them, something I end up bombing on.
Though I do think the boss is great fun... today I was able to beat it with only 1 bomb (0 on the first form), and dodging gets at least some reaction from the crowd.
All I really have to worry about in 1-7 is that mid-boss.
Speaking of which, today I got up to the dog (on my first game) and died... I can't dodge those bullets! Not even that first double ball thing! http://jeeptalk.org/crack/smilies/cwm/cwm/cwm14.gif So I guess I'm in a rut. I did beat my old score without beating the game, but that's shameful and sorta stupid. If making videos was easier I'd show how I play on 1-5 through 1-7, but my playing screen when capturing is pitifully small, and I can't exactly flip my TV to record on tape.
I find 1-6 more difficult because I need to pay moreQuote:

attention to the bullets' trajectories. Triple Lei already
mentioned a few examples. In 1-7, many of the patterns are
aimed and have conspicuous openings--I can move without
thinking too much about the bullets.
Also, I've yet to settle on how I should distribute my
bombs for 1-6. The stage trip is easier now that I've
figured out a way to use more of my Bat Missiles. But I'm
considering using two bombs on the boss. The first form is
easy to defeat if I use a bomb on the first net pattern.
As for the second form, I'm thinking about using a bomb on
the opening attack, just when the boss is about to fire
its lasers--my method of running through the middle of the
screen is unreliable. I've yet to test this bomb
distribution thoroughly, though.

near the Bay Area?
Grr! Argh! Zort! New record at the arcade, still at a shameful second. It wasn't great scoring either, since I got my extend after beating the 1-5 mini-boss. I beat the game and lasted for more than 5 seconds in 2-1 this time (It was probably a good 20 or 30 seconds  ), but no one was watching... :(

You know, I think I am going to try to play through the 2nd round. How much harder is a stage in 2-3 compared to 2-1? It can't get any harder, can it?
And, uh, sorry about Bearcade...
I think it won't get any harder. For each random stage, IQuote:

noticed no change in difficulty among the 2-1, 2-2, and
2-3 versions--there's really only one version. So there's
little need to rethink your basic approach if a random
stage shows up as 2-3 instead of 2-1.

I'm getting slaughtered on 2-1. I wish I could just practice it separately.
Rob, you can. If you have the American GB 2, hold start as you powerup the game. You'll get a debug menu with a bunch of options; one is playing at loop difficulty.
Thanks. That'll make it a bit more interesting. I'll be better prepared next time.
No, no, don't tell him! http://jeeptalk.org/crack/smilies/cwm/cwm/crying.gif

I lasted quite a while in Britain, almost getting to the boss... all on borrowed time. Can you believe I died on 1-1 during that play?
Anyway I updated my site which now has all random stage variations, and I'll get to work on 1-5 soon. I've decided to allow for one death in 1-5 and 1-6 to make the difficulty more manageable. Remember, my guides are for "the rest of us," who want a high score without having to dodge the harder waves! :sneak:
(and does anyone really know what all the options are in the Debug Mode?)
I'd restart. Right out of the gate with a handicap.Quote:

What do you guys think a good starting stage rank is for loop practice? I "crank it up" to 5, which is pretty low, but better than 0.
For the 2-random stages, I recommend setting the StageRankQuote:

at 9, which best simulates a stage in 2-3. Again, I found
no differences among the 2-1, 2-2, and 2-3 versions of a
particular stage, so there's no need to practice playing
each version. But to be sure that you're practicing on the
highest difficulty possible, play the 2-3 version.
Also, for these stages, I recommend setting the LifeTime
at 8 and ShotRank at 3 to start each stage at the highest
rank possible. Any lower and bullets would be slower and
less numerous--not a good way to practice.
Meh, I would too, except it was at the arcade. :o Thankfully no one was watching then. I find myself restarting if I die before the 1-5 boss, which is suprisingly often.Quote:

One thing I forgot to mention is that in the game where I died in 1-1, the 1-6 difficulty level (entering with the highest power level) was as hard as it would be entering with all my lives! I hoped that death in 1-1 could replace the death I usually die at the 1-5 boss, but no...

I can actually see myself completing it now if I can just get my 1-6 boss strategy in order. I just used a bunch of bombs this time.
Mode7 has stressed this point in the past. Rank rises quickly from 1-5 onwards. No one has it down to a science, but I'd wager that a death on 1-4 would see full rank by early 1-6, let alone your death on 1-1. Assume that if a full stage and change has passed since you died, you're fairly close to full rank.Quote:

Good scoring game for me. Had almost all points before 2-1, which also says how pathetic the 2-1 showing was. Those little propeller pods' suicide bullets got me again.

I maintained control over the second round until the 2-3

better clue when to drop my bombs. That helps plenty.

conserved a few bombs, hoping that something good would

I guess I should be happy, since I cleared the 1st round with more Marions and bombs than usual (i.e., zero), and I finally reached a 2nd round boss, but I missed not one, but two gemheads. :o
Still, Strikers 1999 III (or whatever it's called) is looking mighty appealing, but at 2 tokens a game and no home version, I'll have to play when no one's looking... I've already got some sort of rep as the "shooter god" for beating Gunbird 2 and smoking everyone else (at least I hope so  ), and I can't afford to bring it down by dying in 1-3 or something... oh, what to do...
Max coin chain up: 49
Not much of a post, but I might as well before I forget.
Curses! How dare you, passing up my coin chain while I'm off playing Dodonpachi. ;)
Hey, I'm playing DoDonPachi too! Seriously. It's stealing away my Gunbird 2 time (for now!).
Scratch the last post. New max coin chain: 56
Nice one Rob. Where were you when you got that?
Level 5, in those 4 coin patches at the beginning. I think I might've had 49 to start, and I usually don't try to get each individual coin, but I wanted to see how far I could take it.
I figured as much. At the rate we're going, soon we'll need to be chaining level 6.

Er, uh, yeah. Some more pics:
1-7 cleared - Wow, knowing how to dodge the double exploding ball attack thingy really helps! I prefer Mode7's method of staying in the center of the balls, also halfway between the bottom of the screen and the balls, moving straight down and, at the last second, diagonally upward. Dodging the right ball explosion is now possible, and the trumpet laser misses!
Death at the 2nd round Japan boss - Ugh... so close. I did manage to beat this boss in practice!
And Rob, don't you beat my score until I can grab a pic of the forum ranking... please? :) :bang:
No worries, I'm taking a break. Congrats!

*maniacal laughter* I said I was taking a break, but I couldn't help myself. First time I finished with 3 lives remaining, just enough to bumble through the first stage for a bit.
Well, I enjoyed my, oh, 20 hours at the top, and I did that "Alt + Print Scrn" thing in time, so I'm happy. :oQuote:

First post here decided to enter the action so here goes
419,500 - James_Pond / Marion 1-4
Does anyone have any links for any gunbird 2 videos I really think I need some inspiration to make any progress.
Yeah hi,
I have Mode7's Marion replay and someone else's Tavia replay. I made my own replay with Marion and it's sort of a mixture of both, with tips from Bern-D and everyone else (well, maybe just Bern-D), but I'm always trying to make a better one. I mean I cleared the first round on one credit, but I really should have died only once (which to me is my perfect play through).
There aren't any links, but I might be able to send it via AIM or something...
AIM: touma15
Thanks a lot for the offer Triple Lei but I am only on 56k sending the files via AIM or whatever is not really an option.
But I should be getting broadband soon so will post a message then if the offer is still open. In the meantime back to practicing and trying to hit the top ten

My DSL is going down for two weeks (DirecTV DSL) while it switches to another one, so all my sites are down. Heck, I'm on this lousy 56k connection, myself...
I put my Gunbird 2 stuff on WinMX (maybe I should get KaZaA too?), so when this unpleasantness is over, they should be up for download.
As for my 1-6 guide... I've written everything up except for the boss. There are a lot of split-second dodges to make, and sometimes I just think to myself that it would be easier and more entertaining to see a video clip, so I don't know when I'll get to that.
So... I'm curious. Why is it that Morrigan isn't showing up more on the list? i KNOW it's because people aren't using her as much... but why not? Triple Lei likes (nay, insists on) Marion. Alucard was in Mode7's Gunbird 2 guide as being for advanced players... Valpie= good beginner, Tavia=Well-liked by the untrained. (used to love her, went back and played as her today.... and not to say I'm all that great at the game, but I really can't stand Tavia anymore... )
What about Morrigan?
Ahem.Quote:
What about Morrigan?
I used to just really like the game, but ever since I started using Morrigan, I love the game. The only other characters I even goof around with anymore are Marion and Aine. Morrigan's sole weakness seems to be in bombing. The bombs are only good as a panic button, clearing bullets, as they aren't very strong (and no good bonuses like Marion or Aine). But her overall strength with the close range attack (really powerful and wide) and fire means you won't need it very often.
Don't question it too much, it just makes us seem more original.
"Tavia=Well-liked by the untrained."
*cough*
I don't think so. Morrigan's a little too fast for me, and I prefer Tavia's strong focused shot and punch move. Bombing is about knowing when to use them, so the lack of a fail safe instant bomb isn't important. She requires you to dodge a bit more perhaps, but overall she's the best character for the way I play.
Morrigan is an exclusive character in the DreamcastQuote:

<oops> again. Guess I shouldn't have made such a sweeping assumption. Sorry cigs.
I'm just getting all my info backwards lately, I guess....
Doesn't Triple Lei have a guide, though, that touts Marion as being *the only character*? Or is that someone else's guide he posted on his web site?
So, do you just not use Tavia's close attack very much, then? Also, doesn't the fact that Tavia's strength is her shot, and that it doesn't have a homing componenent, make getting higher scores more difficult? Or is it just a matter of planning?
Having to sit in front of an enemy and blast him/them, especially the larger machines, seems to take up too much time for Tavia to go and nab an optimal # of coins and gems. For instance: The gemhead on Japan stage; at any level higher than 1-1, isn't it pretty difficult to get all the gems if the character has no homing shot and no bomb is used?
I'll bet that I just need more practice, and maybe a way to get some Gunbird 2 vids. (can't use FTP, KaZaa, WinMX, or any of that. Firewalled to the max)
--Take the last train to Clarksville--
Oh, I almost forgot: I'm assuming you guys have preferences on DC controller vs. Arcade stick. What's your preferences?
I've only got one of those cheap Topmax sticks, and it's not with me.
Whoo! I finally got my extend in 1-4. Sure, it was when I beat the boss, but hey.
http://www.geocities.com/triple_lei/...iestextend.zip
Sticks VS Pads: Unless I'm playing at the arcade (so the stick has an unmovable base), I like playing with the standard DC pad. There is some stuff I can do better with one than the other (tapping with sticks; moving up with pads), but I like them both.
I've been reading through the thread... what's this about Original 1 and 2 limiting player movement? Does this mean that I should turn my TV sideways, if it can handle that?
Why O why can't I seem to get past the 1-4 2nd form? Bern D's idea about the first form seems great (unless someone can explain a good way of dodging the main gun *and* the spinning gun thingies)... but the 2nd form puts me to shame. I zap his legs once, twice if I have enough juice, but then he fires his sweeping shot... sometimes I can dodge, but holy cow, the sweeping shot that comes after that, the continuous one, it *always* gets me. When his legs are gone, he starts in on the "layered" sort of shot, sort of a ring, with holes in it; Rarely do I survive that; is there a better way? Just right-left-right-left life mad... or what?
I can probably handle the attack after that.
?Any advice?
So, what's the minimum number on chaining before we can post that, too? Does that have to be in a game with the high score as well?
I use the punch mainly to take out a few of the larger enemies quickly, when I need them out of the way so things get too complicated. However I try to save almost all of my energy until the stage 4 boss so I have a full meter (takes out the first form quickly).Quote:

Taking out larger enemies quickly (other than with her punch) is usually then a matter of getting in close quickly. I don't like the homing/spread type shot characters because while they have a wider reach, up close they're weaker. I prefer to kind of be all over the screen and go from enemy to enemy. Her strong shot is really an asset in taking out large enemies/boss parts as well. Regarding coin collecting with Tavia- see my coin chain ranking. It's possible.
Playing in TATE (tv on it's side) mode is really the only way to play. Many patterns are easier to navigate, and there are some things that are close to impossible in the other modes. Example: Collecting all four of the coins from the front of that one boss is damn near impossible in any mode other than TATE.Quote:

I can only give you tips on how I beat the boss with Tavia, but hopefully some of it can carry over. First thing I do is make sure my meter is maxed out (or damn close) as I get to the 1-4 boss. Then (thanks to Mode7 for this next part) as the boss comes down, get right up between those four turrets. If you're too far down they'll fire though, and that's it for you. Wait until he opens up, then release your super attack (hold the fire button down until your character's powered up). With Tavia, a full meter will finish off the first form and it's on to the second.Quote:

I usually punch the legs then, even though it's pretty weak since I just used up all the energy. The two patterns I see as troublesome in the second form are as follows:
Wavy yellow shot: You just need to get right betweem the two rows of bullets and move with it. It's hard as hell at first, but with (admittedly) a lot of practice you should survive it consistently no problem.
Orange sweeping circular shot that moves from left to right (great description I know): This one is tough as well. On a good day I can weave back and forth around it for a bit, then tap either left or right until it passes. You need to be really fast though, and I'm not sure how slower characters would need to handle it.
Damn that was a long post.
Morrigan boss 4 strategy.
1. Close range attack on the 4 turrets immediately. Don't hit the "caps" on the sides.
2. Go to the bottom of the screen, center and dodge the shots. Simple small left and right movements. Try to stay centered.
3. When it starts shooting the "line" shots at you, move slowly to the right or left, destroy the cap.
4. This is where there is a moment of calm. Go right up to the center target and hit it with a close range attack. This should also knock out the side turret. Retreat, dodge any remaining bullets.
Part 2:
1. Hit it with one close range attack. Move to bottom of screen, focus on its talons, dodge first clump o' bullets attack.
2. Maintain focus on the center of the bird, while dodging second attack (simple back and forth dodging). It should move onto its "second form" before its flutter bullet attack.
3. Dodge the next attacks ("thanks for the help," I know) and when it turns around, you should have the bar filled up enough to move in and hit it with two close range attacks. Retreat to the bottom and make a few dodges, it blows up.
497,200 - wEEman33 / Aine 1-5
I hope my lack of posting in the last few months hasn't insinuated that I've given up Gunbird 2, because rest assured, I'm still plugging away. After being stuck on the 1-4 boss for about a month, I finally had a breakthrough today. I managed to reap the rewards of all three gemheads in the rotating levels, and obtain a moderate amount of coin chaining, including a personal best of 10. (Go ahead and laugh at my inferiority, but I'm still proud of my feat :p) Thanks to Rob's tips, I only lost one life on the 1-4 boss, and I actually made it about halfway through 1-5 before succumbing to a stray bullet.
It feels good to be back in the top 10 again. :D
462,500 1-4 Morrigan
just a nudge.
i finally made it to stage 4.

Alucard, I understand.
Morrigan, I understand.
Tavia, I understand.
Tavia, I understand.
But AINE? HOW?
Next you'll tell me that Hei-Cob is secretly the best charachter in the game...
According to the Gamest and Arcadia high score archives,Quote:

the best scores can be achieved with Aine. Because he is
the fastest character in the game, Aine can grab 2000-point
coins quickly, even if he's far away from them or if
they're clumpled tightly. The timing is less forgiving with
the slower characters.
Aine's weak, narrow shot makes it difficult to leech from
enemies in order to fill the Level Gauge, though. I'm
unable to understand how Aine experts can survive.
This is why I am asking. I understand his speed, but he has some of the weakest shots in the game. Ergo, I wonder how anyone lives that long.Quote:

He does have a close-range attack powerful enough toQuote:

destroy larger enemies immediately, plus he can recover and
retreat quickly. With Alucard's weaker Drill and longer
recovery time, I have to stick to these enemies longer to
destroy them--that takes some time to get used to.
To take care of his weak, narrow shot, I think Aine should
(1) sweep all over the screen to destroy drones and (2)
leech some energy from the large enemies before destroying
them (there's plenty of time to do that). It'll probably
take some time to get used to the timing, but once a
strategy is formed, then one can use Aine's speed and power
to execute these strategies consistently.
Aine can also be more selective on where to use his
short-range attack. His fast speed would take care of the
rest of the less threatening patterns, since there's less
need to see far into a bullet pattern's future.
But I'm just speculating. I'll let the Aine players verify
my thoughts.
I actually like Aine a lot, but since his shot is so narrow, you have to play him differently than everyone else in the game. I didn't think he was a top scorer, is all.
Also, Level 3 Samurai Dynamic kills any boss in one shot, no lie.
...Well, unless bosses on higher difficulties take more damage to kill, but my expirence with is, one shot, one kill.
"Samuraiiiiiiiiiiiiii... DAI-NAMI-KU!"
Damn. Finally.
After what was supposed to be only two weeks, I got my DSL back after over a month. Which means the server's up again, and that means my site is back up. I've been working on it all this time, so the only thing left to do is finish the section no one will read: the General Info section! There's also a small Downloads section and an Articles section, with at least one more coming up. ("Why TATE is the only way to go" is one such article...)
And a new coin chain high, omg.

Bleh. Figured I'd give this a try again, since I hadn't played it in awhile. It's going right back on the stack :P
I think what annoys me the absolute most is the total lack of consistency. Sometimes I'll hit 1-4 in perfect shape, sometimes I'll die repeatedly on 1-1, 1-2, or 1-3. I don't even know what to practice to get better.
Off to greener pastures for me.
edit: A thought - perhaps playing in non-tate squashed mode is a disadvantage. How many of you who can pass 1-6 are playing horizontal on the DC? (please say none, lest I be morose)
Original 1 makes it harder by mashing the bullet patterns down so much that the dodging spaces are about character-wide.
Definitely a disadvantage.
This score is nothing fantastic. In fact, it's a little pathetic. But hey, I'm not very good.
214,500 - alpha5099 / Morrigan 1-2
When I first got the game, I started out using Morrigan, but then for whatever reason I switched to Alucard. Then I heard about all the praise for Marion, and I tired her, but I could never get used to how she handles. For some reason I was playing today and decided to switch back to Morrigan and found I was able to pretty quickly expunge most of the high scores from the table. Now only only one of two Marions and Alucards exist on a board dominated by Morrigan.
How close is Original 2 to the Arcade mode? I mean, other than the scrolling part.
They just got Gunbird 2 over at Vernon Hills Mall. 25 cents! You guys were right, a bit easier there than on Original 1 for DC... pulled out 400K without any problems... and all this time I thought getting down into the volcano and showing the boss who's boss was a completely superhuman feat. With the recent post about Original 1's bullet patterns being so squashed, I feel much better about all my past frustrations, head to wall contact, and controller abuse.
"The 'Triple Lei Method' helped me go from being the life of the party to burnt out Gunbird 2 whore-bag in only three weeks! Thanks Triple Lei!"
Original 2 is essentially useless. All the bullet speed of TATE mode with none of the added reaction time. Find something to flip is my advice.
Where can I find a tv, or rather how do I find a tv, that can do that? I've tried it with two so far, and they just get distorted color (bad of course).
Also, has anyone here figured out a way to play Gunbird 2 on a monitor?
There are numerous threads on the topic -- try searching the forum for 'tate'.

and a 20 chain
Is there any way to play as Morrigan in the Arcade?
The answer is 'no', isn't it?

Man, you guys are making me want to pick this one up again...

I swear I'm going to make it into the top 10.

Thanks to everybody who helped me along the way, especially Mode7, Triple Lei and BER.
Congratulations Cigs!
Nicely fucking done, cigs. I thought I could hear gleeful cacklings somewhere off in the distance earlier.

Had a pretty decent day today- cleared the first round 4 times and managed to squeeze a few more points out of the loop.
I'll take a pic at some point, but I seem to have misplaced the digital camera.
Thanks to a good friend of mine, I am now in possession of an lcd monitor which can rotate... tate indeed. Tate is god. Tate is all. Tate is holy.
It's staggeringly impressive. I'm focusing my attentions on DDP right now (I must have that 1cc damnit, it means a lot), but I'm going to get some vga box action soon, and that means all of the DC shooters will be played in their proper glory.
I dropped this game completely awhile ago when I asked about people playing Tate, and I was just plain frustrated with the game. I KEPT DYING to patterns I'd swear I had learned, and the 'feel' of the deaths was bad. In DDP (and other games), when I die, I usually know I deserved it. I didn't dodge something well enough, I moved wrong, whatever. GB2 was killing me when I'd SWEAR I moved the right way, and that was just pissing me off. Whether I was deluding myself or not, I don't know, but when I hook it up with tate, I won't have any more excuses.
I'm also looking forward into plunging back into GW2 (where I croaked one painfully long instant from a 1cc) and MM (where I'm still stuck on that damn fourth stage boss!). Been on a Cave binge lately, I'll be curious how I return to Takumi and Psikyo.
Now to dig up DC and GC vga adaptors...
Unfortunately Gunbird 2 is not compatible with VGA output. There's a way to trick the game to play in VGA, but it runs like crap.

The one life clear is proving to be quite a bit of work even with a clear plan, so I thought I'd post this to tide me over.
In other news, I can't believe I didn't hit the 1.3 million mark.
