The only thing I know about Japan's embrace of western games is that they don't do very well and that Mortal Kombat has green blood. What games made over here do the Japanese people like? Do they like GTA? Also, what western made game has sold the most units over there?
Crash Bandicoot was huge and I think Tomb Raider was too, for some ungodly reason. The fact that Japanese people flocked to Tomb Raider proves that they have no taste even more than their flocking to... I dont know, date sims.

The answer might be Parasite Eve.
Tomb Raider hasn't meant shit over there for the last few releases; DC TR4 was published by Capcom and went nowhere, PS TR3 was published by Success of all companies (whom also handled Wu-Tang in Japan)... so uh, yeah.
Parasite Eve is based off a popular Japanese Novel, so I don't think that counts, plus I don't even know if it was made outside of America. Did Square have American dev. teams then?
Parasite Eve was a joint project of Japan and US Square teams. Its based on the Japanese novel, and most of the code was done by Japanese team. US team is responsible for CGI animation.
they like american games 'cause they're different from all the games coming out in thier own country. it's the same with us too. to us, japanese games are different and exotic an' all that jazz.
