How did Sony get this good?

I always thought that Sega and Nintendo gave me the most interesting games, there was always something new and exciting coming from them but I now seriously think they are lacking, nothing from Sega interests me except for PD Orta and Spike out, Nintendo got Metroid Fusion and probably Prime to sell me.
But I've been talking with a friend ower ICQ about the current status and we both agree that Sony really got some nice games coming up and their past shows a developer that isn't afraid to try all kind of different styles.

I still get a smile on my face every time I see that little Ico pic someone on this board got, and I regularly play my Vib-ribon disc in my stereo, although music games isn't really my thing I like Parappa The Rapper. I couldn't care less about the GT series but every now and then there is one gem to be discovered from them.

Do you think Nintendo and Sega has lost some of "it" or is it Sony that just outperforms them, or maybe I'm just retarded..

Its so small yet tells a great story to those who have been there, like a little masterpiece.

All companies buy or hire talent. And Sony has also been in the video game industry as far back as 1983.

SCEA makes its share of great games, but I don't think it has a track record like the dev teams of Nintendo and Sega. Ico, Kri, and Ape Escape don't exactly outclass everything EAD has done.

What I find odd is that the best PS1 games Sony ever published/funded (Tenchu and Elemental Gearbolt) were released by third-parties domestically.

Nintendo is still doing decent in my eyes, although Mario Sunshine was a disappointment to me. I've never been a huge Nintendo fan, but I do like to play a few of their games.

Sega has taken an absolute nosedive since after March of this year, imo. Their sports lines are said to be good, but I don't much play those. HOTD3, TJ&E3, Crazy Taxi 3...wow, so many mediocre 3's. I don't have a single Sega game on my list outside of Orta, and pretty much any game Smilebit makes.

Sony is getting pretty damn good at what they do. They've gone from one of the developers/publishers that I made sure to stay away from to one that gets me excited everytime they announce a new game. Good job Sony. :D

Well a big thank you to Sony then, I mean Nintendo could have used some of that talent now, they got the money. Sega on the other hand..

And I never said that they outclass all of EADs games, juts that they have been really good lately and that their upcoming games look really good.

I wouldn't say Sony has reached the point where they've equalled, much less outclassed, Sega or Nintendo. But they have had a stock of worthwhile talent and studios under the SCEI wing since the PSX was first released. You'd have to be fairly stubborn not to notice it. Whether you want to praise or scold them for funding and raising studios under them, that's up to you.
