Hell, I did the same thing when I first got into lifting. I went out, bought all these crazy powders (something called Hot Stuff was big back then), pills, etc, and they all did nothing. It wasn't until I got experienced with the lifting and my diet, figured out what worked and what didn't, that I finally started making actual progress. Supplements can help, but only if you're maximising your effort in the gym and are eating properly. If you're lifting half-assedly or incorrectly and not eating right, all the No-Xplode on Earth won't help you.
My advice is to just spend a few months developing a training routine that works (if you need to, hire a personal trainer for a few workouts- almost any gym has them) and lifting like a maniac, and eating tons of protein. A decent protein powder is all you really need at this point. Of course, that's just my opinion.
