I'm telling you, it's getting to the point where the only thing anyone is allowed to hate are Nazis. And maybe whitewall screws, although I'll bet they'd get a group defending them if we attacked harshly enough. After all, they are quite useful in carpentry (look! I'm already a member!).

Wasn't my sister, just a couple of guys I know. But yeah, it was funny. The shirts were hand made too, quite the poor quality but that only seemed to add humor.

A "ban" is insane. It's a game. G_A_M_E. I fail to see how it is "racist". If all the terrorists were white, would it somehow make it better than it is? What, games should include all races "just to be fair"? You'd have to be looking pretty hard to find anything racist about the game. Besides, It's not like we are dealing with real people here. I fail to see how a fictional characters nationality/race/skin color/whatever comes into play. It's like people are just looking to complain about something.

What's next, are people going to want to ban games like halo because it portrays aliens as "bad"? How about banning XBox and Ps2 because they only come in black! Maybe people should focus on real issues rather than insignifigant crap like this.

If someone thinks Hitman is racist, I'd hate to see what they think of the real racist games out there on Pc.

People love to strive for peace and equality when it just isn't possible.

Unless you are a member of either of the groups complaining, and who feel the game is racist, STFU. You aren't in a position to decide if a race feels insulted, or if they they have the right to. (This is a general statement, not directed at any individual.)

As for this thing... nobody is inciting hate. Hitman 2 is a work of fiction, and these Sikhs should realize this. It is plainly evident from the fact that you play as a genetically enhanced hitman with a barcode in his back.

I understand Sikhs can be in a sticky situation (they are from India but they wear turbans, so some bigoted ignorant people may think they are Middle Eastern and single them out for acts of hate, but that's those ignorant people's problems, not Eidos'.

Hitman 2 is a damn good game, if I may say so myself.

Maybe I was a little wrong about the robot thing. Thinking about it, if we only make games and movies that utilize people solely from a single religion, race, or culture (as in: an all Native American cast, or an all Indian cast, or an all Chinese cast) designed and made only by people from said area, others won't get their panties in a bunch.

I reckon Turok Evolution is pretty racist. The white redneck boss guy keeps calling Turok a Savage, making the white guys look bad and evil to native americans. It says that all white guys are evil. I'm going to make a petition to ban this game now! :D

Why? If the offended party doesn't like it, no one is forcing them to buy it. I don't think my gaming experience should be tampered with because a few people are a little too sensitive. I am offended that others want to ban games I enjoy because they are taking it too seriously. Do I not matter? I understand some people may get offended, but they should just get over it. I don't complain when movies have white people act "uncool" and portray them as "bad dancers" or something. Everyone needs to lighten up. It's not like the object of the game is to go around and kill one certain race of people. The game doesn't start out saying "Eradicate the *Insert slang for various races here*". I don't see how this game is racist at all. If the terrorists were white, would anyone complain? No matter the race/ethnicity/what have you, there are always evil people out there. There is no one "evil" race. Until there is, game developers will use the races avalible. This does not mean the entire race are terrorists, only those fictional characters that you have to kill in the game.

Bottom line is, if you search hard enough, everything could be considered racist and everything out there offends someone. The moment game companies try to walk on egg shells to mak sure no one is offended is the moment the game industry dies.

If you wanted to see a game that would be shunned by everyone, they should make one baised on killing people that serve in any branch of the U.S. (ducks!)

I don't call it stereotyping when I watch a movie that features a white serial killer. I look at it as a fictional serial killer who happens to be white. It also never sates that all of the bad guys in the game are based on real people and everyone that belongs to that race are just as evil. What about the italians in the first level who are, surprise, portrayed as mobsters! I don't hear anyone whining about that. What do we have to do, make all bad guys aliens, or robots as was already suggested? Then we'd get people saying "Stop holding my robot/alien brothers down!"

When I play a game, race never comes into my head. I don't go into a game thinking "Ok, it's time to kill all the evil *Insert race here*" If you do, thats your own problem. I look at games for what they are, fictional. They aren't meant to be an accurate representation of the world around you. Especially not Hitman 2. It is because of people like this that Silent Scope 3 has a message informing everyone that the game is fiction. It's pretty sad when a developer actually has to point that out.

Last I checked, my copy of Hitman 2 did not come packaged with a book of propaganda stating to kill all the other races. Race should not come into play with videogames. None of it is real. If you are sick and twisted enough to pretend you are killing all of the other races, that is your problem. The game was not intended to be taken that way. You are meant to be killing the "bad guys". I hate to ruin the fun, but last I checked "bad guys" come in all colors. If you are offended that there happens to be a "bad guy" of your race in a damn videogame, than maybe you should look at the real world. Every day people are killed. It's not some faceless race doing it. Every race has "bad guys". I don't think there is anything more I can say other than "Get over it".

I've heard from several people that it's canon, but my first experience with it firsthand was from the Street Fighter V DVDs.

And Hitman 2 is one of the best games of the year, despite the outcry. People are such pussies anymore. While we're at it, GTA: VC features negative Italian stereotypes, so I suppose I should turn into a sensitive crybaby and ask for it to be banned also. Feh.

Your race wasn't being treated unfairly in Hitman 2, and I'm more than sure if you had any pride, you would be pissed if it was your race. You are in NO position to tell another race how to feel about a racist stereotype. In a game, movie or otherwise.

It's not about being PC, it's about respect. I respect other races enough that if they feel a game/movie/etc is racist and unfairly depicting them, the company should alter the characters in question, or pull the product. Reenforcing stereotpes in the name of entertainment (or 'art') is one of the stupidest things IMO. Yes, lets keep the fires of hate burning, and hurt the collective emotions of a race, just for the sake of a fucking game.

I think thats the whole point, Sikhs are not Arabic or even gentically related to the Arabs, they are some sort of Indian, which is mixture of Asian Dravidians, and Central Asian Persian/Mongolian stock, where as Arabs are straight out of Africa Semites.

They are not even Muslims where and the only reason most Americans see them as Arabs because they dont know any personally and they wear funny hats, they are sick of it, thus the ban. Make sense?

The Sikhnet website is terribly uninteresting. It's not nearly as fun as that gay youth organization that was fighting to have DDR banned. Read through the Hitman 2 petition and they've managed to boost the # of organizations supporting them from 35 to "over 100". Eidos must be shakin' in their boots over how quickly the anti-Hitman 2 fever is spreadin'! If I were the Sikh's I'd ignore this game, cuz they're just giving it free press. And if I were a game publisher I'd be start up a phony activist group for every game I release - press releases from fringe groups gain are much more effective than naming a kid Turok or adveritising on gravestones.

Since you seem to know so much, how are the characters a "hateful stereotype"? You want me to "wake up", well enlighten me. Inform me of how they are a stereotype. Is it because they are portrayed as terrorists? So, you are saying that there never has been and never will be any sikh terrorists? Forgetting all of that, as I've stated a multitude of times, just because these enemies happen to be sikhs, doesn't mean the developers are implying that all sikhs are terrorists. I don't see how the "race" of a polygonal model even comes into play. If you take issue with this, what about GTA? In that game, the main character is always white. I guess whites are the only ones who carjack and run people over? What about all the Italians always being portrayed as mafia?

Also, why can't I tell them how to feel? They need to lighten up. There are more pressing issues than some fictional characters in a videogame. If they are allowed to whine about it, than I'm allowed to say how silly they look.

One more question, how would you propose the terrorists in the game were handled? Make them blue so as to not offend anyone? Oh, but then the Smurfs might get mad. Completely take them out and change the focus of the game to "loving thy neighbor"? If the developers made the enemies a different race, would it be any different and if so, how? It's not like the only enemies in Hitman 2 are Sikh, there are Russians, Italians and others. The point of the game is to stop the bad guys, not to stop the Sikhs.

I don't know what else to say. I don't expect you to change your opinion, I just don't understand it. I don't look at videogame characters and see a race. I see a fictional jumbling of polygonals or sprites.

Out of curiousity, at what point did Hitman 2 ever even hint at relating Sikhs to Arabics? I noticed this was brought up a few times, but didn't notice any connection (at least not one I'm aware of). I think it deals more with people assuming every American assumes that everyone with a turban is a terrorist then it does with Sikh and Dalit terrorists or Hitman 2 making any sort of connection between them all.

Unless I missed something and I'm simply behind in the conversation here.

Even if I were, I would not find something as trivial as a videogame racist. If they are calling for a ban that will affect me, then information and proof are needed. You can't just say "that offends me, get rid of it". If you could, the world would be very bland. It offends them, fine. Don't support it. Making a big fuss over it does nothing but get the game free publicity. As we all know, negative publicity is just as good, and sometimes better than positive. You have to wonder how many more sales this has generated for Eidos, certainly it has helped them more than hurt them. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm white but I don't believe that if a group of similarly pigmented friends and I decided something is offensive to my race (ala' BET or Black Starz, or Cedric the Ente-racist)that I speak for all white people, only racist think that way.

I know nothing about them. The point is, the developers aren't Sikh, yet they represent Sikh in a way that is offensive to a big enough number of Sikh to cause a controversy. That's all the information neccessary. If you want to stereotype a race/sex/religion, stereotype your own, or make one up, you have no right to use a religion/race/sex in a potentially offensive way if you are not one of them. IMO. And that's all I'm saying.

Sikh probably don't play many games, let alone Hitman 2 so I say "fuck em"!

PS: Sikh is a religion, since when are they a race?

Im pretty sure that there are no Sikhs outside a certain race in India.

Mr_Furious pretty much summed up all of my thoughts in a few sentences.

As for Sikhs being a religion, and not a race. That maybe the case, I really don't know. Either way, it's still ridiculous.

Ethugg, I've seen you call pretty much everything and everyone you dislike "gay" or some variant thereof. What's up - only the ethnically diverse deserve your crusading?

In a statement on the Hitman 2 Web site, Eidos has announced that it has acted in response to criticisms raised by The Sikh Coalition in a recent online campaign. The Sikh Coalition and a number of other international Sikh groups protested the game's depiction of Dalits, a people in India, as followers of an evil cult leader, as well as the combat that players undertake midway through the game against turbaned Sikh characters inside a Sikh place of worship.
In the statement, Eidos said that, along with the game's developer, IO Interactive, it is responding in "a socially and commercially responsible manner by removing from the Hitman 2 Web site all relevant images and content, taking steps to amend the game on all existing platforms, and adapting the next edition of the game due out for the GameCube platform." The statement also said that the publisher had learned its lesson and that it would "observe and respect cultural, religious, and ethical sensitivities in its future products."

Hitman 2 is a third-person action game where players follow the renewed career of Agent 47, a genetically enhanced assassin. The game's assassination missions take place in a wide range of locations, but the game starts off in Sicily, where Agent 47's retirement on a small church's grounds is violently interrupted.
