Has anyone else here read the books, and is anyone else eagerly anticipating The Two Towers? And if you haven't read the books don't waste your time posting here, just go read them already!!!! Or you can try to dispute my claim under the thread title, although everyone knows it will be futile. :D
Yeah...read TTT and TROTK about a month back.
Fantastic books, I must say, up there with the best.
I read the books, and really enjoyed them. JRR does a good job of creating a world and a background for it.
For a very long time though I had issues with his writing style, and because of that refused to read the books. Now I just personally think that they're not supposed to be literature, they're supposed to be fun. That makes them much more engaging.
What's wrong with his writing style?

However, looking at things now, part of it may have had to do with the fact that he was a Professor and an essay writer. I've read a few-his "On Fairie Stories" is pretty interesting actually-and enjoyed them. This style doesn't necessarily translate to storytelling is what I'm trying to say here.
The books are some of the best ever written. Some of the few books that I actually own.
The animated films(The Hobbit, I think) made in the late 80's were excellent as well.
Well the only complaints I have about his writing is in Fellowship when he would go on and on about the countryside for a bit too long, but other than that I think he told a very dramatic and well written story.
