My PC Monitor is on its last legs after about 7 years. I am looking for your recommendations on what make or model youfeel is a good investment. My wife is big on the Flat Panels, so I am leaning that way.
I am not really sure what to look for in a monitor since I have not bought one in so long.

Then buy. Don't get ripped off. It isn't natural for a decnet monitor to cost $1000 no matter what CompUSA tells you.
If you're looking to spend minimal cash and get a nice monitor, check out KDS. I know that they sell them at a number of Costcos, and even though they're inexpensive, they're damn nice. Looks like all the new models are flatscreen as well.
If you have these Computer fairs/swap meet deals around you, or a used equipment seller in your area, check them out..
I picked up a used 21" Gateway Trinitron for $150. 3 year warranty from the dealer..
I figure even if it poops out after 3 years out of it is still a bargin.
Never get one mail order, the shipping will KILL you.
For flat panels I'd go for a Viewsonic. The quality of their products is generally very close to being top of the line, but their prices are about the same as those of average-quality monitors.
I just bought a 17" NEC MultiSync 77F and I love it. It has a beautiful flat screen! I can't say enough good things about it and I highly recommend it. It cost me, er, I think it was $300 cdn.
If I were you I'd not bother with a flat panel. Unless you want to spend a tonne of money it's just not worth it. A flat panel will cost 2-3x more than a regular flat screen and you may not even get the same resolutions. If you want a decent sized flat panel which can run high resolutions it's going to cost you a bond. The cheapies are not good value...
I'd also avoid those aperture grille monitors, unless you want lines in the screen that will slowly drive you to the brink of insanity. :p
NEC is good, Sony if you got money, or no money get a viewsonic, sony parts not the price. but i got this nice little 14.1in KOGI LCD Moniter and it works very well.
I'd say even if you didn't want flat-panel to still go with Viewsonic. They friggin' rock.Quote:
