Isn't this one of those Wonderboy games? I recently bought the TGCD version of Monster Lair, and I like it a lot. I've also played Dragon's Curse and Wonderboy in Monsterland, both of which are truly charming games. Does MW4 have a PCE version? If so, I want it.
As for Alien Solder, I uh... tried it out... but since I couldn't change the default control scheme, it was unplayable to me. Don't think I'll ever be paying $250 for a game that I can't control.
The "Wonder Boy" and "Monster World" series are technically separate, even though there are titles that share both names, though I'm not familiar with all the intricacies of the two series. I think MWIV is a full Monster World title, though, and there isn't a PCE version. I don't think Westone was involved in the development of MWIV at all, as their only credit in it is for the original game, (c) 1989, while MWIV came out in '94.
Alien Soldier is awesome. It just had a steep learning curve. IN fact, even after I beat the game, I still didn't feel like I mastered the controls yet. It took a few more times through. Graphically it is one of the best Genesis/Megadrive titles, lots of cool special effects.
Monsterworld 4 is excellent as well. :)
Hm I'm afraid I got some pirate version of the JP one, is there supposed to be two freaks on the cover and lots of pictures on the back? The cart has five pics and the bird on it, a little help would be most appreciated.

On the back of the box, the top half is a picture of your character doing the PyroPort (The flaming teleport you do when your life bar is full and flashing). The bottom half then has pictures from the game.
Ah crap mine looks nothing like that, well I'll have to see if it works, good thing I didn't spend a fortune on it (9$).
