What is the difference between Evo mode and regular?
I'm not sure where I'm at with the 3-2 guy. I fear him.
Also Kaneda has this game now. He'll surely be a force to be reckoned with.
Pa
Evo mode is a slightly harder (lot more pink bullets compared to the normal orange ones) and the enemy patterns are different and the bosses have better AI
not sure about scoring - but i can buzz more bullets on Evo mode for some reason
Ignore these latest Arcadia scores:

The image ain't displaying for me Click. But I seem to remember the high in that issue being like 5.6 billion. Made me want to play Super Mario RPG instead. You know, something harmless. Non-skill based. Easy.
We've all got a loooooong way to go. I've been struggling to break 300 million for the past week. My best since coming back is 320 mil I think.

Started playing last night and was convinced that Kim de Jon was my man. 72 million by the end of 1-1, nearly half my total score, tricked me into thinking I'd be able to pull off stuff like that in later levels. I forced myself to try Khotaro and got crap scores in the beginning, but later caught up in level 2. I'm still not feeling Khotaro, but that just means I need more practice.
OK, I need to know where you got that shirt NOW Kaneda.
Hey:

King of Shikigami with the replay to prove it. I took two incredibly stupid hits and went into 3-1 with one life and level 3. As soon as I regained level Max it was on, and on one life I made it to 4-2. The dragon boss of 4-1 is a coin dispenser.
400 million will be hit by the end of the week.

Time to go back...
Hey:
Shortly before leaving for Pa's place last night--
383,870,380/Level 4-1/x5/Kim De Jon
While at Pa's I hopped onto TNL and saw that I'd been beaten by one lousy mil. I came home late and tried to make something happen, but my eyes were half-shut the whole time and I just went to bed. Between work and going out tonight, I don't forsee much Shikigami time today, so Kaneda wins...for now.

Rather interesting that what would appear to be the top three guys in the US/UK are all friends from the Seattle area.
I'm still sucking. I caught a bit of a cold yesterday and after Tech went home I sat around trying to score but I was all dizzy and fevery so no. My best yesterday was like 302 mil.
I'll be interested to see your big replay Kaneda. When are you coming back to The "Dirty South"?
Pa
I'll be in your area in a couple of weeks. Hopefully by then I'll have a more impressive replay, as this one is full of screw-ups and missed opportunities (I lasted...oh, 4 seconds at the 3-3 boss). I will surely be able to shatter that score soon.
Pa, if you're still coming up to my town Friday you can view it then.
It must be your proximity to Japan..Quote:

My current goal now is just to see the fourth level. About the only thing noteworthy in my run was hitting the extend by the end of the first level. Way too many goofs and painful deaths. I expect to see the half billion mark by the end of the weekend, although I'm starting to think a break is in order. Yesterday, while walking to my classes, I tried to walk as close to people as I could without touching them. It got worse when the urge struck me to do that with passing cars...
LOL, nice Kaneda! BTW, forgot to mention that the dillweed that runs the 3B Tavern up there bungled it and now my buddies will not be playing there this weekend. I think I'm going to roll with them to Tacoma and then Portland so no Shekky Green(that's what my brother calls Shikigami) for me til Monday.
I'm only 59 million down. Whee!
Pa
"Yesterday, while walking to my classes, I tried to walk as close to people as I could without touching them. It got worse when the urge struck me to do that with passing cars..."
Haha. I guess I'd better hop back on this so I don't get too far behind.
442,489,850/x6/Level 4-2/Khotaro
On Friday I tried and tried to get into it, but I was just too burned out on this game, so I took a couple of days off and on my second run today finally reached the fourth level. Considering I had no idea what I was doing scoring wise, I managed alright. Once I get some practice time in I'm confident I'll grab the half billion.
The good news: it seems that you get an extend at the 450 million mark! (Heh, which sort of leads me to the bad news...)
The bad news: 540,646,500/x6/Level 4-3/Khotaro
Nice, Kaneda.
All I can say is WOW! Nice one man. I wish I could play and practice but I'm just too burnt at the moment :(
Pa
Since I'm feeling more confident in my game competitive-wise and this thread has been mostly score posts lately, I wanted to discuss strategies.
First of all, after making it to 4-3 and being able to get some practice time in with it, Shikigami is a whole new game to me. Not that it plays differently, but the difficulty jumps up dramatically quick in the fourth level, causing me to rethink my goals. Frankly, once I reach 4-2, I just want to live. Luckily, the later levels are so packed with bullets, you really have no choice but to get x8 multipliers all the time, so scoring is no longer my goal. It's all about survival and with the extends at 300 million intervals, some planning is in order.
On my latest best run I made it to 4-1 with one life lost and quickly hit 450, giving me the second extend and a full 3 slots. However, when I played again later I hit 450 at 3-3 boss and ended up losing a life soon after.
At first I was in this for the score, but now I'm gunning for a clear and that means letting myself score more poorly. This makes the game a lot more manageable and achievable. Now, if I get a crap score on the butterfly in the beginning I won't restart. It isn't worth burning out on the game trying to get a perfect first level run. My current plan (including bomb distribution):
2 bombs at 2-3 boss
2 bombs in 3-1's point grabbing maze
1 bomb at 3-2 boss
1 bomb right before 3-3 boss (only if I have one left)
1 bomb at boss's second attack with the two assistants (only if bombs left in stock)
first death at 3-3 boss
hit 450 in 4-1
second death in 5-1
3 bombs in 5-1
third death in 5-2
3 bombs in 5-2
hit 750 at 5-3
3 bombs in 5-3
fourth death at 5-3
3 bombs in 5-3
Note that I use bombs aggressively in the beginning, and none at all in the 4th level. Basically this is because the 4th level isn't really hard at all. When I reach the 4-1 dragon, I milk him just for a bit then take him out. The 4-2 boss goes down easily as well, not requiring any special tricks. 4-3 is the challenge, but it's patterns are easier to manage when learned than even the score maze in 3-1. 4-3's boss takes experimentation and memorization, particularly his opening sword slashes (simply move to the far left bottom corner, wait for the swing, then head to the right corner). His last set of attacks just before he dies is shitty and will probably kill if you don't have a spare bomb, but I don't think it's that impossible either.
The problems I see hitting are not being able to get the power-ups in level 5 which would resupply bombs and not scoring the 750, as well as the difficulty in controlling where you score big. Having only played level 5 once (on a run using continues), I can safely say it looks impossible. However, I said the same thing about 4-3, and after 15 minutes on it in practice mode I cleared it with no deaths and no bombs used. I'm confident that I'll see 5-1 tomorrow, 5-2 on Wednesday, then 5-3 by Friday. For me, being able to play these levels in practice mode is indespensable. This is how I was able to clear Giga Wing 2 and Mars Matrix; the only 2 arcade shooters I've beaten.
Comments or suggestions on my very Bern-D-esque strategy?
And since I'm here:
562,697,810/x6/Level 4-3/Khotaro
Only thing I'd add is that I'm fairly surprised you're using two bombs at the 2-3 boss, I don't really see where you'd need them. The one thing that used to trip me up is when he fires those huge "sticky" circles (and then starts in with the red pattern of long bullets), but-
Right after coming out of the circling brown bullet pattern (when he's close to the bottom of the screen), get to the upper right (or left if you prefer) of the screen. This way he fires those damn circles up there, leaving you free to dodge the next pattern with ease. If you're already doing that, then again, I'd wonder where you need bombs.
The problem I'm having is scoring well from levels 2-2 through 3-3. I don't really have too much trouble making it to 4-1 on a life, but I'm still between 350 and 400 million. For 2-2 and 3 I'm having trouble finding where to do my milking. On 3-1 I can get about 30 million on a good run, obviously low. On 3-2 the boss is easy, but I'm not getting any points. Ditto on 3-3, although the boss is harder.
edit: You are playing the standard arcade mode and not evo, right Kaneda?
Yea, I'm on arcade.
Nice tip on 2-3's boss, I'll have to try that later. I bomb during his first attack with the red needles. The problem I have with it has more to do with Kohtaro's speed. He's either too slow for it while using his spirit helper or he's too fast.
Also, I've been using the regular shot more on bosses since it does better damage and gets more points. However, you still need to know when to use your secondary attack to be sure to leech points when destroying any section of a boss.
Hey:
Since most of us are playing different characters, strategy talk seems pointless as Shikgami is an entirely new game with each character. However, for the real men out there who use Kim, here are some notes on the more challenging bosses/levels:
2-3 Japanese army boss:
I call this opponent Mishima, a joke that only fans of Japanese literature will get. Mishima's initial pattern of red shots are easily buzzed, but attacking with the blades seems impossible here. Once he's finished with this, Mishima drops to mid-screen to use a swirling fireball attack. I stay in front of him with blades out(stick down) and buzz the fireballs continually, doing major damage. So much damage, in fact, that 9 out of 10 times he will completely forget about using the "sticky circles" and pulls back to the top of the screen, bringing out helpers. I then use the "helicopter blade" attack (360 on the stick) to x8 his buddies, then focus one blade on him until I get the x8 and he is defeated.
3-1 high-speed maze:
Right before you face the starfish, you speed up and have to navigate a maze of the big tops. Use the shot to punch through the spaces guarded by weak enemies, then move to the left. This sequence takes nerves of steel: tap the shot and move carefully to get through, then after you kill the last two weak enemies, a wall of them appears. You have maybe half a second to do this, but bust out your blades and cut a swath through them with the helicopter attack. x8 galore.
3-2 dragon boss:
Like with Mishima, you can attack heavily with the blades to cancel difficult patterns here. Knowing what part of the dragon to buzz is crucial: he has a base where his tail comes from with white spikes coming out. The spikes are harmless and cannot be buzzed, but the dark base sure can be. First move in with blades extended (stick up) so that you have two blades cutting into him. Stay on him with this attack until the purple circles come down. If you can steer clear of them then great, but if not back off slightly and shoot while buzzing them. Continually cut him until his first sheet of armor explodes, completely negating his nasty pink shot attack. Next up is the stream of purple shots. This is easy to buzz at the bottom of the screen, do so while shooting. If you kept cutting into him prior to this, you should break his second sheet of armor with the buzz shot in this pattern. Finally, the dragon sends out parallel streams of pink shots. Buzz these with the shot for the x8 and the win.
3-3 boss, Hiroshi:
Anyone who can reveal how to beat Hiroshi without using a bomb will be my new hero. I typically use three against him, and if he doesn't screw me with the purple circles initially, I can drop him without being killed and a x8 finisher. I'll withhold my "strategy" until it becomes bombless.
4-1 dragon boss:
I haven't totally mastered this guy yet, but at one point he pulls a tight circle around you. Keep the blades out here to break much of him for significant multipliers.
I haven't played in almost a week (which explains why Kaneda is 1st), but this thread has once again inspired me to try and jump back into it this evening. Your "scoring poorly" strategy will have to be abandoned soon enough, Kaneda. :sneak: :sneak: :sneak:

Made it to the 5th today, just as I planned. The worst thing about this run was just how spectacularly I fucked it up. 3-3's boss claimed 2 lives a second after I passed the second extend mark. I made it through the fourth level on my remaining life and took down 4-3 with no bombs used. I guess I should be happy with what I got...
Fuck, I would be man. I'm far too burnt. I developed this strange psychosis when I was still on top. I wanted so badly to outscore myself that I would get dangerously pissed when I would score poorly. I still seem to be affected by it so a break is definitely in order. I think the one week break previously was not enough. I originally thought it was too much. At any rate Shiki still stands as one of the most neato shooters I've played so I'll definitely be back in the mix.
Pa
Hey:
714 mil...I'm impressed. I also apologize for saying you only last as long as your bomb supply. ;)
On that note, I too will not be playing Shikgami as much for awhile. Psychic Killer Taromaru is just too spiffy to be ignored.

Hello,
I just got this game and i'm hoping to contribute a score in the near future.
Question: What is the difference (Gameplay, graphics, slowdown, etc.) between the PS2 version and X-Box Version?
As far as I've heard, not much. Both versions have all the same extras, and you can turn the "wait" (slowdown) to off in both. I just have the Xbox one since it came out way before. SnS Evolution does have extra gameplay modes though.
191717580/x5/Level 3-3/Kuga Kohtaro
When I purchased Psyvariar & Shikigami they were only suppose to be appetizers for DDP4; additional games to justify MODing by PS2.
As it turned out they are both really great games.
How popular was the arcade & home conversions of Shikigami in Japan? This game deserves much more praise and interest from the importing community...
Apparently Shikigami no Shiro's at the DDP DOJ/Ikaruga level of popularity over there.
PS: In the future, please put commas in you score.

I lasted like 3 seconds in level 4 before meeting my fate :(
It would of helped if i didnt use all my bombs on the level 3-3 boss. I just wanted to get to level 4-1 so bad i couldn't take the chance of trying to strategically beat him :(
Anyone know of an easy way to beat the level 3-3 boss?
Check up on the page (in one of my posts) for a technique that should help. For the wavy red bullets, just dodge for all you're worth (I've forgotten how fast Khotaro is, but with Hyuga it's pretty easy), it's not too hard with a little practice. For the large brown circular pattern, just stay within the first circle and you should be fine. Let me know if you need any more tips.
807,196,110/x6/Level 5-2/Khotaro
Started playing again today and did alright, making it past the dreaded 5-1 without dying and with 2 lives in stock. However, I imagine a proctology exam isn't all that much worse than 5-2.
Will you be accepting Mobile Light Force 2 scores as well?
As long as the scoring system/ basic game is intact, I don't see why not.
Finally thought I'd post a score and get on the chart. Got the xbox version a couple of days ago and seems pretty good whilst taking some time off from Gunbird 2.

257,470,430/x5/Level 3-3/Khotaro
Hey all, I'm a Shiki n00b so bear with me.
What's the "score curve" of this game look like? In other words After playing for an hour last night the best I can do is reach 2-3 with a score of about 40-50 million, tension avg. x4. I'm guessing that the 1-1 boss (the butterfly) is a huge source of points, right? Do you always collect (and produce) more coins when using the secondary weapon? Does the total number of coins collected affect your score, or should I primarily worry about getting high multipliers?
Also, I suggest expanding the chart for the benefit of all the people now playing the game thanks to our friends at XS Games.
High multipliers = more coinage = big numbers. The primary weapon isn't worth a damn, therefore. The only time I stray from using the secondary weapon is if I need a bit of speed to escape a particular pattern.
Use your secondary as much as possible. Using Hyuga you can get 50 million by the end of 1-1. By the end of 1-3 or during 2-1 you can probably hit the worthless extend at 150M.
I use Hyuga, so I can really only comment on him since strategy is vastly different for each character. I use the secondary weapon constantly, as it's the only way I can consistently achieve 8x multipliers much of the time.
And a note on scoring- 70+ million is a good place to be after defeating the butterfly. When I finish 1-3 I'm hovering around 170-200 million. Just try to be buzzing a bullet all the time, but especially when a boss part or enemy is about to be destroyed.
Wow, I suck ass... 81,237,897/6x/2-3/DeJon KimQuote:

Is it more important to get coins or to get 8x multiplier??? Im sure both is imprtant, but whats the most?
If you constantly use your secondary weapon then you'll get both. It's the best of both worlds.Quote:

For 1-1, I could never get any higher than 60 mil with Khotaro. He's not so great at first, but becomes worth it past 3-1.
19 mil is about my average, I have scored about 27 mil after the first stage, but thats if I do it right.Quote:

If I manage an all clear I'll put the replay up. 5-2 is all sorts of painful, though.
I'm quite disappointed with Shikigami right now.
You know the time counter? It's cumulative. Meaning the quicker you go (i.e. dispense with bosses), the more time you'll have as you progress into the latter stages.
So what, right?
It is possible to milk the 5-1 boss for an obscene amount of points and, more importantly, a full stock of bombs and lives (indispensable heading into 5-2). But in order to do so you need plenty of time.
In other words, I have to choose between either flexing the skills and creative playing I've honed thus far or skill-lessly burning my way up to 5-1 in order to milk the boss and actually stand a chance of clearing the game.
In a word: broken.

Normally wouldn't post for such a slight improvement, but it's awfully nice to drop that 5-2 juggernaut. With 2 lives in stock, nonetheless.
The perpetual countdown is actually kind of clever. At least it would be if it didn't devolve the game into a rush-to-the-richest-milk sprint. I think I've managed to strike some sort of healthy compromise between the counter and setting up for agreeable extend points, however. Thanks mainly to excessive bomb use, mind, but at least it keeps the milking to a minimum.

Final sequence seems to start at 71 seconds no matter what, so 5-2 boss could have been milked at least a couple rounds longer.
So, much room for improvement. But I'm too pleased with myself to particularly care.
For those interested, a replay is available at the Symphony.
If I remember correctly, the JPN Shikigami high score was 1.8 billion. Meaning Mode can become Heavyweight Champion of the World at will.
You're a fucking God, man.

Good work. I never could figure out the 5-2 boss so I gave it up, but I'd like to see how it's done. Any chance that you could put up just 5-1 through 5-3? The full replay is impossible for us poor 56kers.
is that the first American one-cred of Shikigami?
