How did the sequel-to-original game ratio get so bad?

We really can't be happy can we?

i could care less about Sega's past franchises.. i'm not overly interested in seeing a new sonic or streets of rage quite yet, although i do appreciate seeing a new shinobi game..

i'm much more concerned about the release of their original games.. for me, that's where it's all at..

Uhg...when are we gonna get original games? Don't developers do anything besides milk their established franchises to a nice strawberry flavor?

Honestly, I'm more excited about Rygar, Shinobi, and Panzer than I am about Gungrave, Tekki (sorry guys), or any other 'original' game this year. Just play what you like.

Yeah, I'm more interested in Panzer, Shinobi, and TJ&E III than most of the other games being released this holiday season. I just can't wait to play them.

I wish we could get a cool Alex Kidd sequel... even on GBA. I'd even like a port of Miracle World on Nintendo's little toy.

No, I've always been bothered by sequels. There are alot of people on these board on each side. Some were disappointed Sega didn't exploit its franchise on DC, others were greatful for the new franchises. It's not the same people.

Who cares about the ratio, as long as there are enough origional titles out there.

The problem with most sequels is that, intentionally or by accident, alot of them turn out to be very unpolished and just don't seem to have high production values. Once in a while, you get a sequel that really hits it on the head, like Virtua Fighter 4 or Zelda: Ocarina of Time. But more often than not, you get seemingly shovelware like Tekken 4, House of the Dead 3, Mario Party 4, etc. It's not that these games are bad, it's that they're the exact same as the last game with no real innovations of their own showing that there was even a need for a sequel beyond pulling in some easy revenue.

Keep in mind that all games mentioned here as being junk I consider junk and you don't necessarily have to agree with me. :lol:

On the other side of the coin, many games don't even grow into their full potential until the 3rd or even 4th iteration.
