Well, some of these aren't TOTALLY dead, but they might as well be:
1. Taito - is there a more under appreciated developer?
2. SNK
3. Data East - made the best games no one cared about
4. Tecnosoft
5. Falcom

3. Data East (Karnov Rocked!)
1. Technosoft. They're dead, right?
2. Team Andromeda.
My mind is blank.
Squaresoft. HA HA HA? Get it?
1. SNK
2. Data East
3. Imagic
4. Human
5. Infocom
I never really played too many data east games back in the day....both versions of ShadowRun were great and Bloodywolf was also pretty cool. What else did they works on?
1. Toaplan
2. SNK (as we knew it previously)
3. TechnoSoft (?)
4. PSiKYO
5. Technos (I'd have liked to see a Solar Warrior 2)
Here are just some of their more well known arcade games:Quote:

No matter how you saw it, Bad Dudes was Data East's crowning achievement. Yes I'm serious.
I wouldn't consider SNK dead, just restructured.
My picks would be...
1. Westone (how could you all forget these guys!)
2. Adeline (no one ever remembers these guys :()
3. Team Andrommeda
4. Dynamix (most particularly the Space Quest team)
5. Psikyo
6. The Neverhood
Sorry but did I miss something? When did Psikyo die?
Didn't they just release Zero Gunner 2?
Their last games was Badrich or something like that....there's a thread by Click_stick about it.
Just a couple months ago. Technically they were just merged into X-nauts, but word is that the shmups team got the ax in the merger, and we won't likely be seeing anything new from Psikyo.Quote:

Raizing is also dead right?
Nope. They made Kuru Kuru Kururin and Bloody Roar 3.Quote:

They are under the name Eighting now.Quote:

What about Quest? I think Square brought them out.
Oddly enough Square bought them at their own request. But no, Quest still exists, they're just under new ownership. Which might suck. Look what happened to Access...Quote:

They have always been Eighting/Raizing. Since like... 1992 or something. There's been no change.Quote:

I'm just saying that they don't go under the name raizing anymore, or so it seems that way to me, and thats what a guy who works for Nintendo told me. Although it was for Nintendo of Australia, so take that for what you will.Quote:

Westone
Looking Glass Studios
Epyx
Data East
NEC Avenue
Sega Technical Institute.:(
I've seen Raizing referenced with regard to Kururin and Bloody Roar on Gamespot and such. But with regard to what's official you might be right.Quote:

Oh hell yeah, I forgot about them. Although they exist pretty much intact at Midway.Quote:

How could Epyx possibly be intact at Midway? It was Atari Corp. that owned them not Atari Games.
When Atari went kaput all the developers (including the former Epyx guys) went to Midway's arcade division, while everything else went to hasbro. I forget which games in particular they worked on. I recall them being pretty crapy, actually...Quote:

Also, does anyone know exactly what happened to Westone? They were supposedly working on some DC game for a long time, and then their site just vanished and it never came to be,
Interesting.
Given the relative low quality of recent Midway games, it seems the former Epyx people have lost their touch.
Epyx/Atari had a couple musicians I'd like to check up on. LX Rudis or Bob Vierra I think... made some really great tunes on the Lynx.
Edit: He's not even in the game industry anymore. Feh
How the hell did I forget about Looking Glass Studios and Dynamix?
Tribes 2 is home to some of the best FPSing one can find, and virtually every game Looking Glass made was unbelievable.
Looking Glass and Dynamix you console playing shitheads.
:D
In no particualr order:
SNK
Toaplan
Raizing (before the merge with 8ing)
Data East
Irem (from the Arcade scene)
Square. Ever since the name became Squaresoft, the games have been worthy of flushing.
Also, how do we go about getting whoever made Myst on this defunct list?
I think it was Bungie.
Did they even make a game before that merger?Quote:

Raizing wasnt all that great in the first place (apart from Batrider) , freeware games like the one play better than some of their games.=/
- Westone (Wonder Boy, where are you?? :( )
- Data East
- Team Andromeda
- Renovation
- SNK
Is Origin dead?
For all intents and purposes. EA bought them out and deliberately ran them into the ground by putting it under new management every 2 months, and demanding they put out a new Ultima Online every 6 months. They used it as a training ground for new managers, and eventually fired all the key staff.Quote:

Also, I'm appearently an idiot. Adelne isn't dead, they just decided not to make a game for 6 years. They're working on some GBA crap (Moto Racer for GBA. Presumably because they were bought out by Delphine). Well I guess it's something. I really really loved LBA and LBA II and Alone in the Dark 1 and 2. Time Commando sucked, but I'll forgive them.
Xs, what is the name of that freeware shmup? And Raizing made it?
Frog: Zero Gunner 2 was released over a year ago in September '01. Just a small nit but you said a "few months ago." :p
Bally/Williams/Midway's Pinball division.
I thought Adeline was completely toast after Sega axed No Cliché.
It's good to see they still exist.
No, I meant they folded a few months ago, not they released ZG2 a few months ago.Quote:

Bungie did not create Myst, if that is what your response was directed to. It was Cyan, and as far as I know they are pretty much dead, other than their various Myst remakes, which I'm not even sure if they were credited with.Quote:

1. SNK

3. Technosoft
4. Toaplan
5. Technos
Data East..
responsible for Bad Dudes :D
and Shadowrun.. *sniff* :(
To add, I still miss Nihon Telenet Japan. They did alot of classics like the Valis series, El Viento, Road Warrior, Exile, and a bunch of other 16-bit era and older PC games. They also owned Wolfteam, Renovation Products, and a few other labels.
Data East and Technos are 2 other companies I also really miss...
Wolfteam, who made a few of said games, is still alive and kicking. Their latest game was released only a few weeks ago.Quote:
