Really? I think R&C has some of the best levels in any platformer I've ever seen. And the character designs really don't bug me...what kind of character designs do you guys like? I never really buy games based on how appealing the designs of the characters are, but hey, that's just me.
I've put a decent number of hours into the game (10 or so I think) since Friday. I love it so far. The atmosphere, story and gameplay all tie together very well. Also, I'm not of the opinion that Ratchet is a bad character, in fact, I think he's a very well designed character...shrug. I'd sit and talk a bit more, but then I wouldn't be playing R&C. :D
people refusing to play a fantastic game because of the character. and i thought this was a forum of gamers.

I'm not refusing to play it, I did, and characters are only one of 3 reasons. (Levels, gameplay being the others)
Tyler, how can character design not play a role in the enjoyment of a character based platform game??? That's half of what makes a platformer... the character. It's a character/personality driven genre!
I'd go as far to say the level design is the best I've yet seen in a 3D platformer. Then again, I haven't exactly been enamored with 3D platformers, so my opinion could be the result of my ambivalence towards what I've seen so far from the 3D genre.Quote:

I have no problem with the character design. Just curious, however, for those of you who find the character design of R&C to be that bad, what 3D platformer do you feel has good character design? What about that game's character design makes it so much better than R&C's? Is limbless Rayman that freaking cool looking (just an example)?
Mario, Sonic, and Klonoa are examples of good character design.
As much as I love many Western developers, they can't create cartoon-ish characters that don't look ridiculously bad.
Well, I did play the demo... and I wasn't too impressed. It just seemed like a bunch of play mechanics were thrown together for no reason. To me, it played more as a tech demo with weird-looking characters than an actual game.
I don't see any reason for the fans of the game to not like it though. Each to their own.
First of all, I like the character design of Ratchet & Clank. Second of all...even in platformers, character design isn't a huge factor in my overall enjoyment of the game. Gameplay, control, level design, etc. are much bigger factors.Quote:
