Hey man, whatever makes you guys happy. The only team I know anything about is Dallas. I'll start paying attention when the playoffs get closer.Quote:

Game on! Woohoo! :) I am stuck watching Dallas-Anaheim. Bleh. Gigučre is getting lit up already. It will be really interesting to see what happens to the Ducks this year. I think they improved by getting Federov over Kariya... but I am very suspicious of Gigučre.
I wish I could watch the Devils. At least I can watch potions on the NHL Network. I am nervous about the two rookies on defence. Paul Martin looked really green in the game I saw. I am absolutely thrilled that Berglund is in the opening night lineup though. :)
Anaheim improved dramatically with getting Federov. Other than speed, Federov is better than Kariya in every single category in my humble opinion. Hopefully Gigučre doesn't end up being one of those one hit wonders. Their team is pretty decent on paper this season. They're losing now, but I have a feeling they'll make a comeback in the 3rd period and beat the Stars tonight. It's only the first game anyhow.
In NHL news: Martin Havlat has till 7:30pm tomorrow to get signed or he sits for the rest of the season. Marc-Andre Fleury is in the Pittsburgh Penguins active roster and will play backup to Caron.
Very interesting interview with John Ferguson JR on TSN.ca. Getting rid of Travis Green was the best news for them since 1967.
SGGG, why don't you listen to the Devils on NHL radio or get the super awesome NHL Centre Ice?
Scott Niedermayer scored a beauty tonight. After leading the NHL in postseason scoring last year I wonder if this will finally be the season he challenges for the Norris? |-)
I listen to NHL radio sometimes. It can be confusing when I am watching one game and hearing another though. Besides, the NHL Network shows portions of all the games and I also look at the stats online so it's not so bad. Between CBC, SRC, RDS, Sportsnet East, TSN, & NHLN they showed a lot of Devils games here last year anyway. Way more than are seen in the US (outside NJ/NY, obviously). :)Quote:

Man that's terrible. I would flip out and kill people if I didn't have my beloved NHL Centre Ice. You have my sympathy. The fact that it's not on Digital Cable is weird and ridiculously stupid at the same time! I would go kick their asses!
Speaking of ass beatings, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks got a good one from the Dallas Stars. Gigučre looked terrible out there. These new pad restrictions must be effecting him big time. Stu Barnes had a good night. You didn't see that prediction or the previous post.... ->
John Leclair gets injured. Busted foot...
thibault got a shutout so that made me happy. anybody else think if a game ends tied after the OT that neither team should get a point? i mean that OT with the Bruins/Devils tonight was amazing but during the course of the season i see way to many "playing for the point" OT's that are just a waste of time. i mean for one, 5 minutes is waaaaay to short and like i said it's too easy for teams to "stepandfetchit" and bore us to death.
I have long been in favour of stealing the football system of 3 points for a win and 1 for a tie. That way a tie is worth less than half a win and it gives much more incentive to go for it. It's a no brainer, IMO... the only problem is that it would screw up the NHL record books... but they already did that with the OT loss point so why not. :)
your idea sounds good as well. i just think the way it is now doesnt really give much incentive after the teams reach the ot. i mean IF you win you only get one more point so play it safe. then again id love to see the shootout in place myself. not for the playoffs mind you (the continuous OT there is just fine) but if they want to draw more fans and viewers what better way? most say they're against it because it puts too much pressure on the goalies but i disagree. im a goalie myself and the whole game is pressure in itself, the shootout wouldnt make much difference. i mean they have penalty shots so its basically the same situation because even tho the goalie had nothing to do with the call hes basically penalized anyway. they need to do something tho. the current OT situation is a pile of shit atm.
Stars started off the season great tonight, thrasing the Ducks pretty soundly. Giguere looked pretty darn below average in net. Wonder if Anaheim'll pull off a Carolina Hurricanes of '01-'02 this year? Miracle run all the way to the Finals, then bottom out the following season. They sure as hell didn't look like Western Conference Champs tonight...
On another note, Barnes is awesome. STUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.... :D
is it just me, or did Anahiem look really sloppy last night? the were missing passes and fumbling around alot. Giguere didnt look too hot either.
as for tonight: GO KINGS! WOOO!
The funny thing is, Gigučre still looked like "Goldorak" out there in spite of the new regulations.
As for the Kings, I expect they'll have a bounce back season.
Tonight, I watch les Glorieux... en anglais! Go Habs Go. :)
..get smoked by the Ottawa Senators! Bwahahahahaha!Quote:

In all likelihood, the Sens will win. I like the Sens a lot too though (and the Canucks and Wild). What do you think of the Havlát situation? From the outside it seems like he might be being greedy. But his last offer to the team was something like 1y/$1.9m? That would still be a great bargain for the Sens. I think they should up their offer.
The whole thing reminds me of when Eliás was a RFA 3-4 years ago. He too had no leverage in the CBA and held out and played in Czech. When he finally did sign he caved in and was making something like $650k a season, even tho he was one of the team's best players. Luckily he was a professional about it and held no grudge.
It's good to see teams holding a hard line against salaries... but this situation might be a bit over-zealous. He's a fantastic player.
edit: the forum ate the s+diacritic and turned into into a "?" - stupid forum.
I am not happy with Muckler at this moment in time for pulling this Boston Bruins/Chicago Blackhawks like penny-pinching. Havlat deserves what he is asking for in my eyes. Most people here in Ottawa are on the fence about if he's worth it. Some people are calling him greedy, but really his numbers are much better than most players in the league and it all done on Ottawa's 3rd or 4th line. He's gone back to Europe at the moment and will probably not play this season unless he gets moved. I assume he will now be used as trade bait for later instead of Bonk, Fisher, Phillips or White. Jacques Martin was able to roll 4 lines last season for a reason and Havlat was the major reason why. I guess it'll affect the Sens offence a little bit, but not really. I was not pleased with that whole Elias thing either. He too deserves a bit more money.
Oh yeah..... GO KINGS!!!
Ouch. Ensmoked they was. :\Quote:

His defencemen on the other hand were pathetic. They were unable to keep up with the Sens and played very poor positional defence. I hope Mr. Julien give them a verbal thrashing for this very bad effort tonight. This is unacceptable. The music that was played tonight at the arena is even less acceptable. I will go shoot the person responsible for that terrible music later.
Anaheim is still playing like crap. Someone should tell them that preseason is over. Vokoun is looking very good in net for the Predators. Nashville is dominating the Ducks asses all over the ice. Gerber is solid and is probably the only reason the score is not so lopsided in the favour of the Preds. The Islanders were not so lucky though cause Washington lit Snow and DiPietro up like a forest fire.
Hitchcock coaching system is looking good. It seems to be working out for them. I haven't seen that Flyers team play that good in quite some time. They dictated everything against the Sabres. Buffalo had no chance.
Finally, how Yzerman managed to get a goal with one second left on the clock to beat the Los Angeles Kings is beyond me. I'll just assume it was a fluke and that the Senators will defeat them on Saturday.
Damn, I gotta go to sleep. Can't watch Calgary VS Vancouver. Blasted freaking work. Might as well watch highlights in the morning. Argh!
I agree completely about Theo. He had no shot on those goals. I hope the casual fans don't see the score and make the wrong assumption. I'd not over-react after one game. They are up against the league's best team in the first game, that's tough.... We'll see how they do against Toronto and Washington.
I am not sure what I think about Julien as a coach. He has a good track record but the team didn't respond to him at all last year. I actually think Therrien got a raw deal, not that he was that great a coach either. Gainey didn't hire Julien either so... we'll see how they do.
On the bright side I think Ribeiro could have a breakthrough season this year. His goal tonight was a beauty.
They played the Growing Pains theme song!! :lol:Quote:

Montreal had better try harder though. It looked very half assed. Either that or Julien's system is really bad. And yeah, they were playing against the elite level Sens. The fact that the Sens are also one of the fastest and heaviest teams in the NHL doesn't help Montreal's small defence look good either. It might work better against slower Toronto and Washington teams though. We'll see. If Julien can't control his team, he'll be fired soon enough.
On a positive note, I am extremely impressed with Michael Ryder. That guy is gonna be freaking good.
Growing Pains theme song indeed. A hockey game is no place for that kind of thing.
What do mean Hedberg wasn't in net? Crawford, Crawford, Crawford....:td:Well at least they won.
Finally, good for Jordin Tootoo for making NHL and having an impact...
and dont me and my brother know that more than anybody. he's the beantown fan and im the hawks fan. bit of a rebuilding time for both, moreso with the hawks now tho. 6 dressed rookies this year.Quote:

When we were watching the game icepop asked if the Sens were bigger than the Habs or if it was an illusion because they were wearing white. :lol:Quote:

Man, I truly feel sorry for the fans that have to put up with these pieces of shit.
I don't think anybody other than Red Wings GM Ken Holland is stupid enough to take Jagr giant contract. He'll be done soon.
SGGG: Make no mistake, the Sens are freaking huge. I think their average weight is like 215 or higher.
Tootoo seems to be adapting to the NHL game. His hitting is still good at this level. Hopefully he doesn't go around checking everything cause somebody might eventually go and kill him later.

Yeah Ruutu is gonna be something great. Smith better not trade his ass when he gets good.
As a NY Ranger fan, it looks like I have another great year to look forward to. Like, 0 for 8 on power plays, Lindros taking penalties on power plays, blowing 2 goal leads and more.
Yep, same ol' Blue.
Yes, the New York Rangers are pretty bad at the moment, but I wouldn't worry too much though. Once all them old fogeys and overpaid Europeans retire due to the looming lockout your team will be a lot better. They could even use some money to get players that have teamwork skills and know how to play defence. Unfortunately, Eric Lindros will still be there and he will still make outrageous, boneheaded plays. Oh well.....
Nah, the Rangers are screwed long term. Glen Sather is the worst GM in hockey (not named Mike Milbury). There is no chance to recover with him in charge. Even if they dumped all of the high priced floaters (which they can't do, no one in their right mind would take Holík's contract off them! ) they still have no prospects. It's truly hopeless. :)
ps. Habs@Leafs tonight. The Habs have not done well versus the hated Leafs over the past few years, but this year I hope things will be different. Also, this will be a big game for them after getting smoked by the Sens. That loss is understandable because the Sens are one of the best. But the Habs should have a better shot tonight.
GO WINGS
Tonight is a good hockey night! The Habs game was brilliant. Ryder is sensational. What a thrill getting his first goal in a big game on HNIC. He earned it too. Ribeiro and Zednik look great too. Theo was solid. He made a big statement. Just wait til Saku comes back.
Oh oh oh, and the Rags are getting their arses rearranged by the BJs!
Devils won too. Good night. :)
Damn them Red Wings! :( At least Ottawa got one point out of that. Well deserved overtime victory by Detroit.
Ottawa/Detroit
The Good: The Detroit Power Play. Havlat getting signed.
The Bad: The young Sens getting out hustled by the aging Wings. Red Wing fans will get even more arrogant after this victory.
The Ugly: Ottawa's Penalty Killing. Glenn Healy's colour commentary.:yuck:
Montreal/Toronto
The Good: Jose Theodore getting a shutout. Montreal defence redeeming themselves. Ryder's sister is a nice piece of meat.
The Bad: Toronto lack of offence. Saku still not in the Habs lineup.
The Ugly: The Leafs defence. Pat Quinn at post game media conference.
Don't laugh SGGG, the Blue Jackets did a lot of improving in the off season. Then again you're a Devils fan and mocking the Rangers is a past time of sorts for you...:D
Yeh, it's great to see Havlát come to terms. I hope Gáborík is next. :)
Glenn Healy is pretty awful, isn't he? I had to suffer through him on a few of TSN's Devil games last playoffs. :yuck:
I didn't see Ryder's sister. I saw his mum and dad tho. Pffah. :(
Yeh, it's a great pasttime! Especially for long time Devil fans like me (since the first season - 82) who suffered through all the lean years in the 80s. ;)Quote:

The BJs are going to be much improved. I don't think they are a playoff team, but they're a more solid team. The Rangers on the other hand.. wow... they are off to a dismal start. I am actually worried they may sack Sather. As a proud pure blooded Ranger hater I don't want to see that happen! Sather must stay as long as possible to ensure continued suckiness!
The BJs are wearing their new 3rd jersey tonight (pic attached).
Egads. That's not too good. I guess it's an Ohio flag in the shape of a C wrapped around a star. Then there are stars everywhere. It reminds me a little bit of old red Capitals look.
Overall I don't like it but it's not too offensive. It's not Anaheim bad. It's just meh, the jersey itself is decent but like their regular unis, the logo is not so hot. Maybe it will grow on me. It's actually probably a better logo than their main logo.... but that's not saying much.
Hmm...It's looks like an AHL jersey. Nothing too terrible. At least it's very distinct. The poof on that elderly lady's head is funny looking.
Yeh, I saw some of the game last night on NHL Network. They looked OK on the ice. I like the jersey itself... but the logo, while it looks ok, is pretty lame. I guess they're stuck for ideas with such a daft nickname.
Tonight the Habs fans gave Patrice Brisebois a huge ovation during introductions. It was pretty nice to see. He can be frustrating at times and he is overpaid but he does not deserve the stick he takes most of the time. Boo him if he messes up but other than that get behind him. I think he might have a good season if he's feeling better about himself. Habs up 2:1 so far.
