Unreal Championship Bombing Run Team!

With Xbox Live comes the tremendous oppurtunity to play well as a coordinated team and what better way to utilize this than with perhaps the best team play mode made to date? UC's Bombing Run is like Rugby with Guns. Penny-Arcade had a pretty good description of it in their news post for thier UT2K3 comic. I too would have liked to see the sports theme taken further but as it is Bombing Run makes this (fanatical) Quake junkie a UT2K3 and UC devotee. Normally I wouldn't really care for UC. It's basically UT2K3 without a great MOD scene and inferior controls. HOWEVER - while voice can be added to most any PC game it's not universally present. With XBL, you can coordinate Runs - alert defencemen and heads-up the pass with ease. Otherwise it's just a couple of guys running around trying to get the bomb in the goal while everyone else just kills each other TDM style. That's fine for basic CTF (and I'll keep Quake for that) but Bombing Run requires more. You NEED someone to protect the bomb runner, the bomb runner needs MORE THAN ONE OPTION to pass to. The base defence needs to be solid and coordinated (many levels are indoors). To be sucessful you need good players, smart players and well aquanited players who know the strenths and weaknesses of one another. This is why Unreal Championship is ideal to me. And it'll likely be ideal for you too! So show your interest in this proposition and join TNL's Unreal Championship Bombing Run Team. If we need a Mascot, we can use Bahn, or Chun Li or something.

WERD! I'm in! I will admit that I am not the seasoned online FPSer, but I am more than willing to learn! I play lots of these games single player, so I am competent.

EB says this will be in stores Thrusday, so if anyone gets it, look for me online. Same goes for Friday when XBL hits for real!

I'm definitely in, this should be great :) I'm generally pretty damn good at FPSes (I kick ass in CS and Q3A), though I was rarely able to get in the top few spots in rounds of UT2003 (I only played for about a week though). The voice chat will make this such a good game :)

I would like to add that I have never played any online incarnation of Unreal, I have merely played the original's single player campaign. I don't know if that really matters, I just felt I should mention it.

Oohh, I really can't wait! I think the fact that I can play on Live, but not with any games I really like makes it that much worse. If I'm having a blast playing a motorcycle sim, which is about as far as you can get from what I would normally play, I'm going to lose lots of sleep to a game I actually want to play.

I personally can't wait to play MotoGP online. I love that game offline, and just being able to play with 15 other people and watch as they fly off the course at sharp turns is so awesome :) Man, I swear if I can't get Live to work I'm going to just break down and cry like a baby :)

I don't see why it wouldn't work. It was as simple as anyone could ask for. Just plug in your ethernet cable & the Xbox does all the technical work for you. All you have to do is imput your Personal & billing info with the controller, which is what makes it take as long as it does. You should be online in 15 minutes or so.

And yes, it is totaly amusing to see the big plieup on the first hairpin turn. I still haven't raced a session that didn't have at least a 4 bike wreck on the first big turn. It's even better to hear them all swearing like sailors when it happens. :)

Well the thing is, I've got a USB DSL modem. Apparently my ISP is supported by Live though, and they have instructions for how to work it for my setup on xbox.com, but still, I don't want to jinx anything. To set it up I've got to use a crossover cable from my nic to the XB and then use ICS to share the connection. Hopefully I'll figure out everything OK, it sounds like they made it as fool proof as possible.

Does anyone have UC yet? I have seen all kinds of release dates for this one, so who knows? EB says tomorrow & GS says today. Whoever gets it first will get my cash, thats for sure.

Well I go in first thing tomorrow when Gamestop opens to pick up XBox Live kit and I will try and get UC then as well. I'm hoping it's not going to be sold out everywhere

Gamestop has it - I won't be Live till Saturday morning though guys :(

Yay, I picked up UC and MA today (at Toys R Us no less) :D Now I just need the Live kit tomorrow, and if all goes well, we should all be enjoying gaming bliss together :)

I just got this earlier tonight(got Toys R Us last copy), it sold out everywhere here. I know a whole 2 people will be reading this, but I gotta say, as a person who had never played any of the other online Unreals, that this game is fucking awesome. This is so above Quake 3 it is almost sad. Fun as all hell, and right up there with TFC as one of my favorite online games of all time. It might be because I just got it but it is pretty damn great. Some of the levels are just amazing. I look forward to playing with you guys, I got Skelator, Gamecynic, Werewolf and a couple other people on my buddy list that I don't think go to TNL. Send me an invite if you want to play some Unreal, or Ghost Recon or Mech Assault for that matter. Since I have been using direct connect I will not be on the computer much so I just thought I would post all that. See you guys online

I just got Xbox live (dang Boston; it's been sold out for the last week and a half)! One question: how do I find you people? I didn't see any way of searching for gamertags in the manual...any help?

I'm here long enough to find everyone's Gamertags and respond to some PMs. Anyway, the only way I know to find Gamertag is to find them out from a friend. If there's a search function I've missed it. Anyway my gamertag is Pitch. See Ya

You go to the XBOX dashboard(you get there by turning the machine on with no game in it)and select XBOX live. Go into your account and select friends. In there you can add people. I hope this helped.

Finally got my mitts on this one. It's very fast. Stupid fast, thanks to that lightning gun. Still, having a lot of fun with it.

Hahaha. Sorry Mode, I had it for a while (and then I was the only one playing, damn it!), but after a hundred or two kills worth of Deathmatch, I just couldn't stand it anymore. I was pretty damn good at this on PC, but I just can't keep up on the XB version, though I probably would've had a lot more fun if I had known other modes were better :(

Deathmatch is ass. Conversely, bombing run is a thing of beauty. Besides, you can't expect to just jump into the XB rev and magically own at it.

Good to see you online, Nigel. We need to hook up a survival game with four or so TNLers and go to town.

Actually, four is just about right for any game mode, considering that's the number of players a single voice channel is limited to.

Yeah, it was really cool once I figured out what the hell to do. hahahaaha I liked that ALOT better then just Deathmatch. I will be back on to play some more of that Bombing run. Very fun stuff. Yeah, BR had me pretty lost at first, too. That Rapier (Aslen) guy was wicked -- me and him took a bunch of short-handed matches after you left. Only lost one match (5 on 2) in overtime on that huge ice map.

Still, bombing run + instagib = bliss.

That sun of a bitch was damn nasty! I was thankful when he was on my team and hating life when he wasn't. He has an amazingly acurate shot. I must play more. I hate feeling like a minor league player. BTW, what is instagib?

Oi, missed your post Nigel -- sorry about that.

Instagib is a modifier that limits players to the shock rifle and primary (laser) fire only. But if you connect = instant kill.

I'll take this moment just to reiterate a couple important points:

- Unreal Championship is still awesome.
- I'm lonely :(

Mode... is there an Unlagged mode? I love Insta/Unlagged in Quake 3.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by unlagged, so I'm guessing no.

Unlagged means you don't have to adjust for ping in in your shots... and it should be a facet of any game that features instagib.

Ah-ha. The term was so straightforward that I figured there had to be more to it than that.

Instagib matches are the smoothest you'll come across -- even the slower servers tend to be quite slick when it comes to instagib. Where things get ugly is instances where you've got a bunch of people in one room tossing flak and god-knows-what-else around.

That's my favorite game-type... in the war stoies thread I detailed a CTF match in Insta/Unlagged.
