Now this I will play.
Without a doubt.
U GOT R0MZ?!?
I haven't played it yet, but I'm planning on picking it up along with Prime.
Which reminds me I still need to reserve 'em...
Uh no... I'm gonna buy it so I can play it with a shitty D-Pad, on a screen that can not be seen without a 50,000 watt bulb 3 inches from the screen.Quote:

The navigation computer thing has got me a bit weary. From what I've played, it seems that the damn thing tells you where to go, and everything is sectioned off, awaiting the damn computers approval.
Even if, in the previous Metroids, the areas were sectioned off awaiting your discovery of certain items.... it "felt" like more of a exploration than this one does so far. looks like a great game regardless... I'll just miss the feeling of freedom.

Uh... yeah.
Uh... I have no idea what you are talking about. :)
I was gonna post "U G0T ROMZ?!?" again...
But I feel that we've derailed this topic quite enough already.
U GOT ROMZ?!
I have my doubts that Fusion will surpass Super. Here's hoping, though.
Teh r0mz?
Hey:
The idea of a clone Samus running around for you to fight makes me want to touch myself in a special way. Prime looks cool too, but I'm far more excited about this...I can't wait.
-Technosphile
I'll be getting Fusion right off the bat. Once I beat it, I'll return to the store for Prime. Gotta' give the real deal my attention first. :)
The IGN review says that the computer tells you where to go . Does anyone have any more info about this?
Who cares if the computer tells you where to go (Because yes, it does.) It doesn't tell you to "Not fall in this hole" or "Dodge this enemy" Nor does it tell you how to beat bosses.... So what if it loses some of the "Exploration" aspect... if you want exploration get soembody to drop you off in the middle of some big ass forest you've never been to, then do some exploring....
Because Capn' DaDa, thats the point of the Metroid series.Quote:

I played a demo version in Best Buy one day....while running around, you come across navigation rooms. When in one, a screen comes up with text and tells you where you have to go and why. It felt weird- it came across as getting orders and directions from some kind of central command, while in prior Metroid games you just wandered around (which I liked). The review says that the navigation room sequences help move along the complex plot and help add to the game's atmosphere. Hey, I'm willing to try something different. After all, who wants to play a re-hash? Still, the review sounded like Fusion may even out-do Super, though I'll reserve judgement (since my opinion is the only one that really counts :) ) until I play the full version myself next week. I can't wait!
I thought the point of the metroid series had been to destroy all Metroids, defeat an end boss, have a 3 minute or so time limit to get out of said planet, and blast off into space. Granted the Exploration is nice and all, but the navigation system does not kill the game.
The plot could be to take a dump in the hidden golden toilet on the planet zaxxon9, but that doesnt change the fact that the point of Metroid is all about exploration. No, it doesn't kill the game, but it detracts from the main element that I, and many others play Metroid for.

Neato. Thanks.
Save a couple bucks, Best Buy has it for $25.99 this week. If you find a cheaper price, post post!!
The navigation computer is annoying. It tells you where to find the missles and where the first boss is in the 1st level. Also the talking is kinda long.
It doesnt tell you where the secrets are so hopefully the navigation system is only rampit in the first level.
I only played the first level or so, so here's hopeing.
Fusion is still a great game, but Nintendo just watered it down a bit.
Oh yea, there are now ledges you hang on to in the game as opposed to just using the wall jump to get up high ledges. Watering it down again, but Im just nitpicking, it's still a really amazing game.
I hear it's like that the whole way through. Sorry, hope that doesn't ruin anything.
D
Damn, oh well, you can, if you wanted, just not look at the screen during the navigation parts and just ride the a button untill you skip it.
I'm sure its still a great game. The secrets are not handed to you so its ok.
Good suggestion. I WILL be ignoring the computer the whole way provided it doesn't impede my progress. :p
Anyways, saw the Fusion commercial twice last night on cable and it's awesome, almost better than the Prime ad. NOA marketing finally got promotion down right for a change.
I disliked the occasions where i had no idea where to go in super metroid. Fusion seems more up my alley.
Part of the fun of Metroid is getting lost and then feeling great when you finally find that secret passage.
This game is a great GBA title. The computer is annoying somewhat, but it doesn't tell you where the secret (and not-so-secret) areas are or anything like that.
Has anyone with a TV de Advance played Fusion on the big screen yet? How does it look?
I'd assume the same as anything else - pixelly ;) I'll know better tommorow obviously.
Well, it's sorta fun. Not very tough so far.
if i play on my tv id rather play on this thing...
http://www.gamesarefun.com/cgi-bin/n...7692470,73076,
I'm playing through Super Metroid right now and I have a question. Gumpei Yokoi created Metroid, right? Which games was he involved in?
He created the Gameboy and made Nintendo rich.
D
Didn't konami say that the reason HOD music quality was downgraded from COTM, was because the improved graphics was using more processor power? Metroid fusion has the most impressive audio i've heard on the GBA- but the graphics weren't sacrificed in the least.
So far the graphics in Fusion are no where near HoD. Those huge multi-joined Castlevania bosses were insane. I'm three bosses into Fusion and nothing looks like that. There was also much more enemy variety in HoD. That being said, I'm currently playing through Fusion on my 27 in RGB monitor, and pixelation isn't a problem. Everything looks purdy enough. I just hope the pace of the game picks up. The exploration picked up a bit in elevator 2, so that's a good sign.
Agreed - HoD is vastly more visually impressive than Fusion, but Metroid has never been about blowing you away with graphics. The com was getting on my nerves early on but it seems to have mellowed out since.
I've played a lot more Fusion than Prime today.
The bosses in HOD were definately better (so far), but I think the overall animation in fusion is better. You gotta be kidding me if you think that Juste (or whatever his name is) is better animated than Samus. Its like saying gunstar heroes has better animation than metal slug.
I haven't seen that many enemies, but so far I agree HOD has better enemies.
But still, my original point was that the sound stunned the hell out of me while maintaining great graphics (even if you think HOD's visuals are better).
Then he created the virtua boy and made nitendo look stupid.Quote:

Overall, he was a genius though.
So is Prime the first Metroid game Miyamoto is involved in? Did he have anything to do with Super Metroid?
I don't see how the Virtual Boy made Nintendo look stupid. It was a great piece of technology and it had quality games. I think it was a poor business decision to actually release it but that's Yamauchi's fault.
Yes, Prime is Miyamoto's first involvement with a Metroid game.
What the hell is "rampit"?? Did you mean rampant?
The Virtual Boy made no one look stupid... all you need do to get a glimpse of the system's potential is play Wario Land on it. One of the best games ever made, and damn gorgeous to boot.
Fusion is incredible. I like the more involved storyline, with Samus reminiscing once in a while. I like the "cinema scenes", like when you first get a glimpse of the SA-X. There's been some aspects here that I haven't seen in any of the previous Metroid games, and I'm loving it.
The stills are incredible... how many colors can the GBA push at once?? Much more than the SNES, it seems.

Too bad you can't play the damn thing without destroying your eyes at an incredible rate. Mario Tennis was great though.
But back ot. So far Fusion is great though I've only put very little time into it. I can't wait to see how this game ends up during the latter sections.
All I can say is... finally!!!
Steps to realizing Chakan's favorite improvement:
-Jump toward a ledge with a narrow corridor
-Grab hold of said ledge
-Pull yourself up into ball form
-Cry yourself to sleep with tears of joy: NO MORE FUCKING BOMBING TILL TUESDAY!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH!!
Fusion is quite good and i enjoyed it alot (need to go through it again to get the best ending) but i have to say my biggest prob with it is the Nav computer i dont like how much it tells you where to go
I read a few of the faqs reguarding the SA-X (X-virus merged with parts of samus' original suit) from which I got the impression that it's this game's version of a Mr.X/Nemesis type enemy. I don't know how this is gonna set up for the sequel, but I'm guessing the suit is supposed to turn into something that brings in a new can of worms to deal with.Quote:

There is a part later where the metroids do happen to come back, how I don't know since they are a natual predator of the "X" so I'm guessing that they are from another cloning process that you'll see later in the game. (and possibly may make a big inpact for putting the metroids back in the main focus come next chapter)
After about 4 hours of Fusion I am coming to the conclusion that it feels nothing at all like Metroid. The sectioned off elevator levels with the main hub room and the hand holding computer really kill the Metroid feel. Fortunatly, it still feels like a great game. Just some other great game. :) I'm more than happy with it for now.
Fusion seems to have much more in common with Metroid 2, at least in this respect.Quote:

I've never played Metroid 2. I'm thinking I probably should.
Well, to be fair, I haven't played much of it either, but it was also set on SR388 and it featured discrete levels, each with its own mutated Metroid bosses. You could backtrack through previous levels and everything, but there was definitely a "clear this level, beat the Metroids, and move on" mechanic involved.
It's kinda funny how Prime feels much more like traditional Metroid than Fusion, though.
Metroid 2 is great. It was really impressive for a Gameboy game. However, there was no computer that told you where to go like in Fusion- it was more like traditional Metroid. A must-have if you're a fan of the series.
I picked up Fusion last night and, while I'm not too far into it, I am really enjoying it. I'm very impressed by how good the sound is. The graphics, while not as eye-popping as HoD, are still among the best the GBA has ever put out. The level of graphic details and effects are more subtle than HoD, but almost as impressive in their own way. As for the additions to the series (the computer, etc.), yes, it detracts from the original Metroid formula, but if Nintendo had just churned out a carbon-copy Metroid game you all would be bitching that it was "more of the same". Unless the game sucks ass as a result, I'm all for shaking things up a bit, as long as the spirit of the game isn't lost. It still feels like a Metroid game at heart to me...
The X-Parasite Samus is creepy... :)
Hey, a question: Which comes first, Fusion or Prime? I mean, which is 4 and which is 5? Or do they not specify?
I think Prime takes place after the first Metroid, but before Metroid II, and Fusion happens after Super Metroid.
I second that guess.
D
I don't know why, but I'm positive you're correct.Quote:

Right when you turn on Fusion the screen says "Metroid 4". The opening story screens confirm that the story takes place right after Super Metroid.
I also read that Prime takes place between 2 and Super.
"I also read that Prime takes place between 2 and Super."
if this is right, super metroid wouldn't be called Metroid III, would it?
*edit
unless, of course, it's one of those side-story type deals.. blech
Uh... haven't there been movies where a sequel is actually prequel? I think that Chow Yun Fat flick (was it A Better Tomorrow 3?) did that...Quote:

It is more of the same. It plays just like a more linear Super Metroid, with the minor additions of edge-hanging and climbing.Quote:

Anyway, the Navigation system does have a plus.... It gives Metroid a kinda interesting story to follow along with. The whole thing with surgically removing Samus' suit was plain freaky.
Ill see if it gives away too much after playing more of the game.
Im already about half way (If not more) through the game. The computer varies it's amount of information, and I love that damned thing. It helps move the plot (Which gets REALLY cool as you progress) and makes sure you're constantly progressing (Which is good!). I'm totally in love with this game.
and GOOD LORD..So many heart stopping moments. I'm not going to say anything until someone else feels like being a OMG SPOILER ALERT whore, so I'll save it :)
*Goes back to playing*
*Edit*
Okay, I've been told that I'm at the boss before the final boss. Yay! I <3 this game.
Prime takes place after 1 but before 2
its in one of the official things
it coudlnt take place between 2 and 3 because if i remember the opening to 3 correctly Samus had just dropped the Metroid Hatchling off at the lab and was on her way some place else when the distress call or what ever came back from the lab so 3 takes place like right after 2
i do believe
You call the additions of "edge-hanging and climbing" minor? MINOR?!? MINOR?!? The Metroid universe has been turned on its ear!! All conceptions have been shattered FOREVER! Metroid itself has been torn down to its very core and born anew!!!!!!Quote:

Well, okay, it's not that big a deal, but it's something different. I guess. Plus, the game is less linear because it's mission driven now...that's something different, as well. I guess. I prefer the old school free-roaming myself, but I still enjoy the game a lot.
But as for the climbing and edge hanging, I was thinking yesterday how easy it is to play with an existing formula- just take things present in other similar games (climbing, edge hanging), add them to one that doesn't have them (Metroid Fusion) so as to create something "new", and you have a sequel. Poof. :)
Ah, I believe you're correct.Quote:

I beat it this morning. Truly, truly excellent game. The fight with the SRX took me about three tries before I figured out a pattern to kill it easily. My percent complee was a 72%, and I think I shot damn near every wall. The remaining 28% must be those walls I never went back and destroyed once I got the ability to do so.
i really enjoyed this game
but a couple of the bosses upset me though
but still good game
Clear Time: 3:41
Collection Rate: 41%
Bwhahhaah....Terrible =D
some of the secrets seem to be insanely difficult to find..
for example, there are several places that can only be opened by speed-running over them, but there's not enough room to run..
Laying down Power Bombs with wild abandon is the best way to uncover most secrets.
Only one or two of the speed-dashing secrets is annoying. There's a really bad one in Sector 6...
This game is pure 2D goodness. Different than Super Metroid but in a good way. The hand drawn cinemas are excellent. I'm on the part where the "evil Samus" is starting to terrorize the station, excellent stuff. Having to collect the X orbs before the enemies come back to life is pretty ingenious. Old school Metroid with a fresh twist and a more complex progressive storyline so far....
Playing through the game more, I see that the Navigation Computer shuts up considerably when you get to sector 1 and 2. It tells you the one main thing you should do and leaves you at that.
The rest of the stage is purely up to you to go through. I even got stuck a few times!
Minor spoilers:
The boss of the Arc zone is a God Damned Jerk (those of you who got to him know who I'm talking about). Mega annoying. The last fight was pretty tough as well, till I realized just how much damage I was eating by contact :P
Just finished with a pathetic percentage, but at least I got to see Samus take her helemt off. Good stuff all around, boss battles as usual were top notch. I'd even say I like it better than its predecessors (haven't played much of Prime yet) due to the more linear feel and new moves. I'm gonna get flak for this but in previous titles, I didn't particularly like wandering around huge areas with no idea where to go or bomb with a little hidden route hidden in some obscure location. It's still in Fusion but to a lesser extent since you're more focused in a specific area. I'm gonna take a little break and go for 100% in under 2 hours.
**spoiler**
My favorite scene in the game was where the SA-X was being swarmed by all the little Metroids. Too funny.
That last comment... What the hell?Quote:

Anywaysit, my friend INSISTS that Prime takes place immediately after Super because Samus has the Varia suit. I do disagree, but it would be nice if Nintnedo said for sure when it takes place.
Um, it takes place after the first Metroid. It's pretty clearly spelled out during the game.
have you played prime
the story info in prime makes it 100% certain that it happened after Metroid 1 and before Metroid 2
i could give spoilers that explain it from the Logs you scan but i dont want to do that
if you want them just PM me and ill tell you what they say
also Samus gets the Varia suit in the first Metroid
she doesnt get the gravity suit till Super metroid
trust me if youve played Prime youd know it takes Place after Metroid and before Metroid II
the time line goes like this
Metroid
Metroid Prime
Metroid II
Super Metroid
Metroid Fusion
Ah-ha! So I was right! It doesn't take place after Super Metroid! Time to brag...
I still wanna know what the hell that guy meant by bombing, though.
bah..im stuck. im at the part where im fighting the boss with in section 4. im trying to get into the target area, but i cant. theres no access. its either blocked, or no other way i can find
*edit nevermind i got it*
How many gameplay hours did this have first time through? Just checkin Mine comes in the mail soon.
ok..i know how to get to where im going but im having a hard time wall jumping..any tips?
in Metroid and Super Metroid to make a jump into a small opening that only the morph ball would fit into you kinda had to sit there laying morph bombs till it jumped you up into the wholeQuote:

now with it being in the air and you can just grap onto the ledge and go right into the morph ball you dont have to do that
Fusion > All other Metroids IMHO. I was never a huge fan of the Metroid series until I played Fusion.
Yeah bomb jumping used to be a real pain. The ball jump and the ledge grab help the game tremendously.
bandit, can't remember where you are exactly but I don't remember having to really wall jump in this game at all. If you're stuck...chances are there's some crevice you haven't bombed open or there's some wall you can go through.
My clock read 3:30 on the first go through, but I did die a lot, sometimes I'd spend quite awhile wandering around lost without saving, and I didn't spend an inordinate amount of time looking for secrets.
I couldn't resist seeing the best ending so I took a peek over at VGMuseum. Damn Samus is hot.
Actually timeline wise Samus first gets the Gravity Suit in Prime. ^_^Quote:

I definitely liked Fusion, but I can't help but think it could've been a lot more challenging. There weren't any bosses that gave me a problem except for the spiderboss, and even he was a pushover. I don't know what it was, but none of the monsters in the game intimidated me except for SA-X. The last three bosses were also a joke IMO, no strategy involved in taking down any of them. :(
The SA-X is pissing me off in Sector 2... I'll leave it at that.
