Something's wrong in the world when I make an official thread. Oh well. Anyway, after racking my brain in yet another Crystal Report (remember kids, databases=fun!), I relaxed with the Mech Assault review at xbox.ign.com (Insiders only). While I'm happy with the glowing praise the game has received thus far, there were a few things that caught my eye (in a bad way) in the review.
- No customizing of the mechs. I can understand this to a point, just to keep a balance of gameplay when it comes to weapons. but it would be nice to "spray paint" the mech, or pick a decal (or design your own).
- Multi-player options only available on Sys Link or Split Screen. There are apparently several mult-player modes that were not brought over to the online multi-play. This seems odd to me.
- Having to create a new game session/lobby after each online game. This seems just ridiculous to me. If they would have put this game in the beta test, this would have been one of the first things bitched about. :)
On the plus side, they are planning a good deal of downloadable content. Hopefully free downloadable content. Depending on how many hooks they left in the code, they could conceivably take care of all 3 of the things I mentioned above. One other bad thing: only 8 player max. I think 16 would have been sweet, but it sounds like the engine wouldn't make it.
Probably the best multiplayer option: Not It. Whoever is IT is the only person who can score points for killing other players. Another player has to kill you to become IT. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. So, 7 other people after your ass, and you have to take as many of them out as possible before you're killed. I likey.
So who's getting this game? Anyone seen other reviews/news on it?
