I picked up the PS2 day one, hour one, and now it's finally dying out on me. I'm not exactly surprised, I'm definately not thrilled.
I'm assuming I have no recourse here, since they set the warranty to expire right about the same time as your PS2, and charge as much to 'repair' it as it does to buy a new one.
Bleh, just the type of bill I wanted to pay.
Just bring it to Wal-Mart, say you bought it there last week and it won't play blue discs or something like that. And they will let you exchange it.
Depends on what Wal-Mart... I tried that at 3 different ones and they pretty much told me I was SOL, but directed me to their electronics division where I could buy a new one... :(
my local wal mart is finally taking drivers liscense info and only lets you swap 3 items all year without a receipt.

I swapped mine at my local WalMart the way ClashMaster described. Super Easy. They took my License nuber too, but the PS2 police have yet to come knockin at my door.
hey, incase anyone didn't know, what you are doing amounts to stealing. And knowing the harsh punishments everyone around here wants to dole out to people that pirate games, i don't feel you should be talking about this. By lying about when/where you bought your PS2, and giving them your worthless hunk of crap you are cheating Walmart out of lots of money.
Hah, my choices amount to being robbed by sony or robbing walmart.

There's a big difference. Sony has to take the defective product back. They'll just refurbish it and sell it as that. The guy who traded in the dead console for a new one, will still be a consumer of PS2 products.
My Dc 9/9/99 died 2 weeks after the one year warranty expired. Ironic is'nt it? I took it down to Wally World and got a new unit. I then went on to purchase about 40 more titles for the console. So who really lost out? I could have said fuck it! Bought a PS2 and never looked back at the Sega product, but instead I took matters into my own hands and they have benefitted from it, more than they have lost.
Sony ships a shitty, defective, easily-malfuctioning console (what a shock), so they deserve to lose out on whatever money they lose.
I'm on my third PS2 now, thank God for EB's warranties, or I'd have just said "fuck it" since the thing died the first time during the first (aka- tons o' shit) year of the PS2's life.
