I havn't picked it up yet, but the whole password save thing bothers me already. Although you couldn't really save in any of the other ones either, saving in a handheld game seems to be the norm.
Well I've played it. It plays just like Contra III the Alien Wars. I havven't tried SS but the only two contras I like are SuperC on NES and Super Contra in arcade. I hope SS does something new.
I played it in a store, and emulated as well... lets just say I deleted the rom, because it was trash.
Yep, all the preliminary impressions I heard on this game were pretty negative, so I decided not to buy it. Thanks for the extra confirmation, kabuki.
Since I treat the gba as a console anyway (pretty much only play on GBA TV), I'll go pick up Contra III and eventually Hard Corps when I get a Gennie.
But my question is... if there anything the GBA game has the two carts don't?

- A password save
- Lack of a bomb attack and the lack of ability to hold more than one weapon

I, sadly, heard none of these bad impressions...Quote:

Hehe, oddly enough, the only things I found were on ebworld's customer comments and for once, it sounded like everyone who reviewed it played the game.Quote:

They all criticized it for being Contra III, but with stripped features (only 1 gun, no bombs, bad music quality). The ones who praised it generally never played the original ones.
Luckily I wanted it for the "game" and not for the "portableness", so I'll just grab the originals.
Kabuki, pick up Contra III if you can...it's tons better than the GBA game (although I've only played the first two levels of the GBA rev). The GBA just doesn't feel right, you know? And the music is horrid.
Kind of off the topic, but can anyone explain why the SNES Contra is Contra 3? I mean there are 3 Contras on NES (Contra, Super C, and Contra Force). Does Contra Force just not count, or did the SNES one come out before it?
Everyone just pretends that Contra Force didn't exist.Quote:

Contra Force came out slightly after Contra 3.
I plan on doing that after Christmas. There's no way it can dissapoint me like the GBA rev did.Quote:

As I slowly work through my pile of shame, this game came up...
I remember my original impression was that it wasn't too hot, but I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. While it's not the best Contra game... aw hell, it's not even better than a direct Alien Wars port would've been. At least it wasn't complete trash, I wouldn't say.
The music was kinda assy and the game is way too easy, but whatever. I beat it is the point. I miss the man-head dog being in the ending =/
