Dragon Warrior 7

Since I'm contemplating tackling this monstrosity, I thought I'd seek the opinions of those brave souls who have already dumped 100+ hours into it. Good, bad? Worth the time?

I've got maybe 10 or 20 hours, and I'm not even to the class system yet, still don't really have much of an opinion on the game, other than 'old'. The monster graphics are cute though :)

I sort of like the mini-story nature of the game so far, it lends itself well to picking it up and playing one adventure, then putting it down again for awhile. Unfortunately, the last time I put it down was some four or five months ago, so I'm not entirely sure I remember everything I've done (and need to do).

I was really dissapointed.

I'm a rpg fan thru-and-thru and I waited for the release of this badboy like crazy.

When it finally came out I stuck with it for like 20 hours and just quit.

It simply wasn't fun.

The characters, story, and the battle system all seemed ho-hum. Not to mention the huge amounts of back-tracking just killed it for me.

One of the few games I've returned in the last five or so years.

I'm going to pick it up again one of these days, because I really hope there is something I'm missing because I really want to like it...

I've loved what I've played of it, and I have to be somewhere toward the end of the first disc.

The characters were ho-hum, but what drove me to play was the little mini-quests in the game. I enjoyed seeing the various towns react to what had happened throughout.

Now, I can't tell you how the game ends, or if it eventually rewards you for everything you do. However, I have played the first disc for upward of ninety hours, and had a blast. I just need to pick it up again.

I've posted my opinion on this game many times.

I thought that the first disc was wonderful. I was engaged by many of the sidestories. The game does not have a terribly interesting battle system and the graphics will not wow you. I'm not one to level-up constantly and get all the classes and such, so the game for me, was shorter than for many. I thought it had a certain charm to it. But, charm is often the most subjective of game qualities, so not many people agree with me.

I did not enjoy the second disc all the much. It started off nicely but then it kinda dragged on. The ending wasn't all that satisfying either.

For me, this was more or less 60 hours of good gaming (mostly in the first disc) and 30 hours of chore. I enjoyed it, overall, and i still had a good feeling of accomplishment. I would say, go for it.

The monster animations are great! But that's really all I got out of it.

I'm just over 40 hours in, and I'm really starting to despise this game - I'm seriously about to quit. I get really tired of listening to the same 5 songs while talking to the same 5 people surrounded by the same 5 scenery elements that make up every town. The story is dull. It just goes on and on and on. The battle system is dull. The colours look washed out. The music grates on my nerves. The main characters never say or do anything (yes, I know this is intentional, but if I want to "role play" and imagine things, I can do it for free).

It wasn't always this way; for the first 10 hours or so I really enjoyed the game's 8-bit feel and the ancient sound effects. But really, couldn't they have thrown us a bone by taking the time to make more than 8 character sprites? Or coming up with a third town theme? I'll probably plow through this and hope I start to like it better because I vowed I would, but quite frankly it's gotten to the point where this just feels like pulling teeth.

Dragon Warrior VII's got a semi-permanent spot at the bottom of my pile of shame.

None of these conclusions are really encouraging me ;) I may give it some more time, not sure. I suspect I may just take it back to the store for $5, -1 pile of shame...

Well, just keep playing it until you get bored. If you don't, hey, you win! You're almost at the point where the job system opens up, which makes things slightly more interesting. Some people swear by this game, and it was the best selling PSX game ever in Japan. So some people must really get into it. I'm not one of them, but you might be.

True, but they also like dating sims in Japan, so that doesn't mean a whole lot to me ;)

Still, yeah, I'll try to at least reach the job system, see if I dig that.

Strider's right, just keep playing 'til you get bored, then add it to your pile. It's what you have a warpact for, no?:)
