I agree, the control's not perfect, but I'm sure Retro thought about implementing a standard FPS control scheme, and decided that it wasn't the best way to go. Hey, they're the ones that know how to make games, not us.
That being said, I've only played the game for about 2 hours, but so far it's incredible. It's by far the best looking Gamecube game I've played, and it's hella fun. I don't see myself buying anymore games until I've beaten this.
Ah, never played the first Metroid.
All doubts (like myself, heh) have been crushed by the plant boss. I'm totally sold now.
If you wanted to just look around with the c stick- that could have worked. But there is no way to have FPS controls for actual gameplay.Quote:

Say for example pressing "R" shoots standard beam. Would it be auto fire, or you manually fire ever shot? Manually firing every shot with the R trigger on the GC would suck, and if it was auto fire how would you charge? R trigger "click" could be assigned for charging, but then all you are left with is L trigger and L trigger click. You need to be able to fire missles... but you also need to be able to scan somehow- and you couldn't accomplish this with just L trigger and click. I don't know if you would exclude auto targeting all together or what.
I could be wrong- correct me if I am, but I don't see how Retro could have used the standard FPS scheme.
Apparently I sliced it differently than you. Metroid was never, ever about fast paced hectic battles.Quote:

And guess what? Prime has those. Unless you've already finished the game, or you're way past where I'm at, and you still hold that opinion, I uh, don't believe you.
Some of the later 'regular' enemies come at you in large numbers, take a lot of damage to dispatch, inflict a lot of damage, dodge (a lot), and are difficult to dodge. I'm avoiding spoilers of any sort, but the fights are totally kick ass. And the bosses? Well, they own. The early ones are just a taste of what comes later.
This game keeps getting better and better. I've unlocked the gallery too, pretty sweet stuff :D
I'm quite impressed so far. It really is to super metroid was ocarina of time was to LttP. I can't get the game off my mind, I need to go play it again.
the C-stick is used once you get the ice beam and other such things
I've played for about 2 hours. I love it.
The music alone brings back incredible memories of adventures past.
After my second report of "Seismic Activity" I went and turned that damn hint system off. IMO it's awesome that the option is there to do so.
To switch beams? What a waste.Quote:

I'm fine with face button firing. I just wish I could aim on the fly while moving. If both the L button and the C stick could be used to aim, I'd be happy. Actually, I'd be happier. :)Quote:

Aren't you the guy who said he hasn't liked anything since the Saturn died? Why do you keep punishing yourself by buying games?Quote:

As time went on I figured Nintendo wouldn't release a shit game so it wouldn't suck but could it be Metroid? After finally playing it I must say that I stand by my decision of Nintendo quality, but not really Metroid. It's going to take alot more then some nastalgia to make me buy into the hype. The control scheme sucks donkey balls. There is absolutely no way to turn around fast. No matter how you slice it Metroid had some fast paced, hectic battles and I'm not just talking about bosses. Thank god that Fusion is out, at least I can get a real Metroid fix. Cosider me hugely disappointed. I will try to continue but if it doesn't pick up( really fucking quick ) it's going back.
