Happy 20, November!
Ah yes. 20, November. Today is the day we celebrate or curse the day that Konami of Japan decided to unleash it's Bemani series of music games upon the world. They've blessed us with such amazing games as Beatmania, Beatmania IIDX, Beatmania III (Getting the trend?), DrumMania, Guitar Freaks, Pop N' Stage, Keyboard Mania and DanceManiaX. Then of course we've also been cursed with such god awful titles such as Dance Dance Revolution, Martial Beat, Mambo-A-GoGo! and I want to say DDR again!
In 4 years we've heard some great music, dropped our jaws at damn near impossible shit ('A' Another is coming to mind..) and then done stupid dances of victory after we've defeated said impossible shit (Still not 'A' Another..). We've also seen some GREAT Engrish such as-
"BREAK THE FUTURE!
With more upper and
upper extra HI-tention.
Then you'll find a brand
new sensation"
And who can forget-
"The vibrations that make happiness visible"
How am I going to celebrate 20, November? I'm going to lie in bed sick all day and listen to some IIDX music while playing Metroid Fusion. Outstanding!
So yes, a silly holiday. At least Konami recognizes it with the unlock code for IIDX 8th Style! Heres whats unlocked-
6 Dissolve / TRANCE / kobo
7 合体せよ!ストロングイェーガー!! (The Strong Jaeger!!) / NU-NRG / L.E.D.
7 桜 / SPIRITUAL / Reven-G
7 Xenon / ELECTROSHOCK / Mr.T
6 CELEBRATE NITE / EURO GROOVE / N.M.R.
6 Hormiga Obrera / ALTERNATIVE HOUSE / Shawn The Horny Master
6 ALL RIGHT / DRUM'N' BASS / RAM
7 HYPER BOUNDARY GATE / GOA TRANCE / L.E.D.
So yes, Happy 20, November :p
*Edit*
Sorry, KOJ also released new G2ARTS for 8th Style from 'Blame' and 'Drivin' for the new Triple Challenge internet ranking-

I really think I want to get into Beatmania one day after listening to the fantastic MP3s you've been featuring in your sig (Summer Vacation is amazing) and seeing dog$'s too slick setup pics.
One day.
But I'll never go near DDR.
-
so the strong jaeger is from 8th style?...
interesting... i'm gonna die if I hear that they give it another steps
-
Click_Stick: Awesome :) And at least now I know people are downloading them o_o
Hayato: Yeah, The Strong Jaeger was an 8th Style preview song for 6th Style home..AND NOTES NOT STEPS ;) bahaha

Actually, as one who's not really into DDR anymore, I'd love to hear your thoughts why DDR sucks so bad.
It may not really simulate dancing, but neither does Beatmania simulate DJ'ing. Both games ultimately require you hitting the right -things- at the right time. Yet so many people grow tired of DDR (remember, I did too), but Beatmania lives on... why?
-
Hmm...the most aparant stuff?
- DDR is way too easy. When you see literally 9 year olds beating the supposed hard stuff like Maxx Unlimited (extra stage) and other random assorted crap, it just makes it look like the childs play that it is.
- As time went on, the Mixes started to feel less special. Konami originals started to mean "Lets steal from IIDX!" (Which never worked outside of Make Your Move. Dance to Holic? No..), certain special modes were taken away (Unison was awesome. I remember it being so fun teaming up with someone and trying to own the scoreboard against everyone else) and replaced with shoddy gimmicks (Long versions) or just plain bad ideas (Battle mode comes to mind..)
- Speaking of being less special, the difficulty of DDR began and ended with 3rd Mix. They basically trained you for anything DDR that you would encounter for the next 6 mixes. It took 5 mixes just to come up with a song that could be compared to Paranoia Rebirth (Waka Laka) and even that was tame at best.
- The people who play DDR are annoying, they smell and take the dancing game a bit too far. Then of course, this is just my experience.
- The fact that not everyone can be good at BeatMania also makes BM special compared to DDR. Seriously now, EVERYONE can be good at DDR. From the aforementioned little kids to 40 year old women (Trust me on this one...I've witnessed it). It dosen't matter. Everyone can be gods gift to arrow smashing if they put forth the effort. Now on the other hand, you have to come into the game with a LOT of natural talent, and even that won't get you very far. BM takes time, dedication, patience and sometimes just being in the right moment to get things done right. Everything in DDR has been beaten in every way and form, but in BeatMania (At least in the US) there are still some songs that people can't touch. Hell, I'm going to go through the rest of my life knowing full well that I can't even touch 'V [Another]' or 'Murmur Twins [Another]'. The road to getting there is just as fun as beating those songs. You can spend weeks on just one song...can't say that for DDR.
-THE MUSIC O__O Sweet jesus. IIDX music keeps getting better and better. Wheres DDR? Oh yeah...everyones favorite DDREx song is 'Speed Over Bethoven' and that makes me sad. Go on DDRFreak (Ok I'm sorry I just suggested that) and see what people are anticipating most on DDREx. So far the big favorites are A, V and Sync. All IIDX songs. Yum.
So yes, it's a lot of things o_o

This is true... DDR is way too easy... *main reason why i prefer PIU, aside from the music*

IIDX music is pretty damned sweet,on 6th style home Theres not a single song that I dislike.
Hearing stuff from older mixes 1-4th and a lot of it is... meh, Every mix it does seem to get a lot better though... I would hate to see a "IIDX the final" any time soon.

Ah yes, I remeber seeing someone going through 'V' (or V[another], I don't know the difference) at SHGL (between the VOOT matches I enjoyed) and missing very few notes, I was scared for life.
-
While I really want to give the game a try, I'll probably never see a Beatmania machine in my life, sadly.
But I can say that this thread makes me interested in the game more than ever. And I like the sig MP3s, S|1p.
