Sega's Xbox exclusive titles

From Magic-Box: « In the press conference, Sega COO Tetsu Kayama mentioned that their major game titles will be going multi-platform in the future, such as Virtua Fighter and Sonic, in order to maximize sales. Sega is also considering porting certain platform exclusive titles to other console systems, such as some of the Xbox only titles. »



Some of that news here has been discussed today, but no-one mentioned the Xbox angle. I wonder if it's true. I hope it is. I am sure many non-Xbox owners would buy games like Panzer Dragoon Orta and possibly JSRF. I wonder if they'd consider Shenmue II? The games might look especially lousy on PS2 in comparision, but they still might sell decently, especially in Japan since the Xbox has not sold well there....

I hope it is Shenmue II, it needs more sales so we can still see a Shenmue III someday hopefully...

They should release shenmue 2 on the PS2 in Japan and Europe. NA is out of the question, obviously. Just do anything to make Shenmue 3 a reality.

Who is going to do the porting though? Most of the X exclusives were done by Smilebit, who are busy right now with Orta and some other unannounced project. I'd much rather have them work on new games than ports of old ones. They'd probably get dismal sales anyway.

I really think Shenmue 2 would be perfect for PS2. It's still an excellent game, and people wouldn't be able to really bag on it so much for the graphics if it were on PS2.

You'd think so but....... there is always the fact that a lot of traditional old-time Sega fans simply don't own an Xbox (particularly in Japan). They might buy up any of these games in decent (if unspectacular) numbers, at least enough to make it worthwhile for Sega. It's been said Sega's third party games have not sold as well as it's first party Dreamcast games. So, the argument can be made that when Sega makes console exclusive titles the game is not available to as many people as would like to buy it (not many people actually own all 3 consoles, after all).

So, I think getting any of these games more exposure may result in decent sales and may be good for Sega... and of course more sales means more games and that's what we all want. :)

Possible? Sure. Just look at Wreckless.

It has nothing to do with being a Sega fan. It has everything to do with them being games that the majority just won't buy.

JSRF - original got terrible sales and most of the fans of the original don't even like this.
Gunvalkyrie - most loathe the control scheme or find it too short.
HotD3 - compared to 2 it comes up short
Panzer Dragon Orta - on rails shooter, no how pretty they may be, do not seem to sell well. I'm sure people will complain too short again.
Toe Jam and Earl - too simplistic for most with humor that seems unfunny to most.
Shenmue II - Since it won't come out in the US with MS holding the rights and Japan and Europe got the DC version, I can't see this selling at all.

Am I missing any?

JSRF's exclusivity ended in october, so this could be the first one to be ported.

GameCube should be able to handle it without any trouble. although Panzer looks beautiful, it's only a second generation game, and the GameCube has shown that it can easily hold its own against xbox.
