How about a lesson on how I can't play first person games because they make me ill?
Prime is shit.
Halo is shit.
Faceball 2000 is shit.
First person games are shit. I don't like em.
I don't like FPS games, and I still think Prime is damn near the best game I've ever played. I think you'd be happier if you tried not to conceive Prime as an FPS.Quote:

I think Advance Wars is the greatest game ever, but should I accuse someone of "not being a gamer" if he doesn't like it because he doesn't like strategy games?
This is perhaps the dumbest post you've ever made, and you've made some pretty dumb posts.Quote:

I think we're at the point where not liking first-person games is pretty much as narrow-minded as not liking third-person 3d games or 2d games.
Hopefully Metroid Prime will be a wake-up call for those who still think every first-person game is a Doom/Quake clone. Most people who never stick their heads outside the world of console gaming don't know that non-linear, deep, first-person action/adventure games have been around for a long time. System Shock came out the same year as Super Metroid and it did a very Metroid-like experience in 3d.
I think claiming that "If you don't like Prime you aren't a gamer" is too extreme. I love it (except for the control issues that I mentioned in the other Prime thread) but I can also see things that some people wouldn't like. Tastes are so random from person to person, that I don't think there will ever be a single game that EVERYONE will like.
And about Prime not being a FPS, that's BS. Same perspective + Same basic gameplay = Same genre. Prime is a FPS through and through. Sure, it's not like most FPS', but it's one nonetheless.
Somebody had to say it. 100% true.Quote:

It did?! Wow, that really puts things in perspective.Quote:

IMHO, Metroid Prime is worse than a Quake/Doom clone, because it takes away the skill factor involved in shooting/aiming and you are just left with a boring explorathon. Will anyone still play Quake/Halflife if you can just lock on to enemies?
I don't like FPS games but I can tolerate them, but Metroid Prime seems to combine the worst elements of the FPS and 3D action genres.
Which results in something which is completely uninteresting to me.
You still haven't disclosed how much you've played. I'm going to go with "not much."
If you're not enjoying the game, don't play it. But don't tell me that no skill is involved until you've played the second half of the game. There is plenty of skill involved in tracking lightning-quick pirates and bosses, and in finding the best combinations of weapons to attack them. If there was no lock-on, these enemies couldn't do what they do, because you wouldn't be able to hit them. Well, maybe you could if you had a mouse.
Every console FPS has hand some form of lock-on or auto-aim, and Prime is no different.
I believe I implied that he should quit gaming, not that he wasn't a gamer.Quote:

And Prime is definitely an FPS. But saying "I don't like Prime because I don't like Halo and Doom" is like saying "I don't like Super Mario Bros. because I don't like that bad Pac-Man side-scroller."
Yeah, and that's why console FPS's are generally worthless...Quote:

There's no point in playing a FPS without a mouse IMHO.
And I didn't say there was no skill invovled in the game. You seem to keep twisting my words. I just said the shooting/aiming skill factor was taken out.
But most console FPS (at least the better ones) have the option to turn it off, leaving it up to you and your skill to survive. While I'm learning to live without it, I can seriously understand where opa-opa is coming from. It's a valid complaint.Quote:

It wasn't just directed to you (as what you said was honestly worse), but still that's like saying "Anyone who doesn't like Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro shouldn't listen to music anymore." which is an utterly ridiculous statement.Quote:
