Maybe it's just because I've never played a FPS before, but Prime doesn't feel like a FPS at all to me. It feels like Metroid. So why should it follow FPS conventions?

you know what FPS was the shit? Tribes. God that game rocked.
I don't even want to think about Metroid without lock-on. People would be curling up in their corners without it with some of the enemies in this game. :\
SPOOOOOILERS!!!!!!!!!!
How the hell would beat that rock boss?
Good god.
Or the ghosts for christsake...
That's a pretty empty argument. It's like saying "I wonder how you can get across that pit if you're not able to jump". Of course the enemies' behavior in Metroid Prime were designed to match the auto-aim feature.
whaaaa? anyone else dumbfounded by this statement? how can you say it doesnt feel like a FPS if you never played one? thats an odd statement.Quote:

I didn't twist your words at all. You said there's no skill involved in the aiming/shooting, and I say you're wrong. Again, how much have you played?Quote:

No, it isn't. There's an option not to use auto-aim - it's called "don't press L." I shouldn't have to experience shitty, boring and predictable enemy patterns because you want the combat to be simple enough to not require the lock-on.Quote:

So you'd prefer the boring, generic, shambling enemies of typical FPSs to the creatures of Prime?Quote:

Your argument basically amounts to "I don't like Prime because it's like an FPS, and I don't like it because it's not like an FPS." If you want to play Quake, play Quake.
I still think the controls fuck you over. I can never turn fast enough and then press in the damn trigger, look around, then lock on again. I think it kinda bites ass sometimes. Sometimes I wish for dual stick control.
chozo ghosts, huh?Quote:

how bout a spoiler warning there? :bang:
But what you said doesn't have to be the case. They could have given us at least the option to look and walk at the same time. That would have only made the game's half-assed lock on work much more effectively. I'm sorry, but I hate the fact that you cannot aim while moving. Seriously, that sucks. Even if it were a secondary control scheme you had to choose manually, I'd love the game so much more. But the game controls like an updated Doom, and I can't hack that anymore after playing games like Half-Life and Halo.Quote:

Look, it's obvious you aren't going to agree with those who'd like dual-stick control. They could have made this game work with it, and I feel it would have been for the better. The game is fine without it, but it could feel so much better for me and those select few who prefer the standard FPS contol scheme. But I guess I'm a lowly gamer for even questioning the Perfect game that is Metroid Prime. Especially in a thread called "Can I bitch about Metroid Prime?"
