Which game company is least deserving of its success?

EA is the hands-down winner in my opinion. They make such horrible games and they sell so well... They've really disenfranchised me ever since the early Genesis NHL games. Plus, their arrogant nature is very off-putting. No-one else comes close.

For discussion sake, I'll give my thoughts on some other companies.

Sony: I used to hate Sony because of the way they forced their way into the business.. They hardware is nothing less than total crap.. but, since they have actually begun developing some pretty decent games I'll let them slide a little bit. They don't deserve to be the #1 console maker... but at least they're making some OK games now..

Nintendo: Ok, this will be controversial, but I don't think Nintendo deserves it's position of being so highly regarded. In my opinion they have made a lot of stupid decisions (and crappy hardware - with the exception of the exceptional Gamecube) and gotten away with them. I think a lot of their main series are very overrated, and are popular in large part because of their legacy. I think they are lucky to be doing so well based on their total monopoly of the handheld market and, of course, Pokémon. I am not saying Nintendo sucks though. Far from it, they're still in the upper echelon of game companies(!), but I think they're really damn lucky to have the position they have.

Sega: Um, how can anyone say Sega? Even if you don't like their games.. you'd be crazy to call them successful!! :p

Luck has little to do with it.

Never Nintendo. They earned a lot of it and Strong-Armed the rest... but its not undeserved. Ditto for Sony.

EA does publish some great titles though - and they deserve to sell. Though I have to think to myself - "Remeber Origin" when talking about EA :(

I know no one will agree with me (as no one ever seem to here anyway), but I make a difference in a game being bad and me not liking a game, but still thinking the game is good. THPS is a perfect example for me. Great game, but not my bag.

Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I just hate it when people act like their opinion is fact.

EDIT: sggg, I understand where you're coming from on Nintendo, like they could have a sucky to mediocre game (at least compared to their own games), and based on nostalgia alone still get decent to great review scores. They're one of the few companies to be able to get away with it, but MOST of the time, the praise is well deserved, if a little overexaggerated.

Sony's development teams made, or at least published, some good games in the 16-bit era.

That's pretty much the point I was making. I am not saying they are "bad", just a bit overrated. I'd actually say Nintendo are very good, but still overrated.

Well, it's a bit semantic... but their success has not been based on "good games" alone. It's been based on illegal business practices in it's foundation (the NES years) and a total monopoly of the handheld market. I think they're pretty lucky to have gotten off with just a slap on the wrist for the first thing and are doubley lucky to have had no serious competion in the handheld market since Game Gear (which they were damn lucky sucked batteries dry so fast, because the original Gameboy was an even bigger piece of junk).

EA couldn't have gotten any lazier.

I didn't know Acclaim much less 3DO where that much of a success, last time I checked Acclaim stocks where way down and I have no idea about 3DO but I can imagine they aren't so hot ether ;)

Unfortunately they haven't done much else though worth talking about since the 16-bit era, is Climax even still in business because I can't remember if they even released a game in the past 2 years :sweat:
