First off, do a board search for "PC Engine" and look for the threads that cropped up this past summer, when several of us got our first PC Engines/TG-16. You'll find a lot of helpful advice.

As for imports, here's the deal. You can play all CDs and Super CDs regardless of region. Arcade CDs require an Arcade Card, which you'll need a HuCard converter for.

For cards, you'll need a HuCard converter for any Japanese games. There are a few good ones you'll want to check out, but for now you'll do just fine without a converter.

Here are some good, mostly cheap US HuCards to check out:

Galaga '90 (actually Galaga '88)
Ninja Spirit (this is an absolute must, one of the finest ninja games ever made)
Vigilante
Super Star Soldier
Soldier Blade
Ordyne (unless you have the Namco Museum copy for PSone)
Dragon Spirit (ditto for above)
Military Madness

With you being a Zelda fan and all, check out the Neutopia games. They are a total rip-off of Zelda, but they are fun anyways.

I've found GameTZ to be a good place for TG-16 games. I've got a few decent ones I'd trade you, but you gotta send me my damn gamecube controller first.

If you're looking at PC Engine HuCards, it's hard to go wrong with Mizubaku Daibouken / Liquid Kids.

Blazing Lazers is the best shooter ever in my opinion. It will kick your ass!

Good luck trying to get rid of Keith Courage. Virtually every TG16 owner has the game already.

R-Type(shooter) - unless you have the PS1 version

get toilet kids (?). the overhead shooter where you shoot poop and stuff.....it will own you :)

My top recommendations:

Parasol Stars - Surely you must like Bubble Bobble. This is like Bubble Bobble with more fun.
Liquid Kids (JP) - Utterly brilliant platformer. Must see to believe!
Legendary Axe - It has got the NES feel. My favorite 8-bit hack n slash action game.
Air Zonk - Large colorful graphics, nice NES-esque music. Not very challenging, but fun.
