anyways, help would still be appreciated.
Try pawn shops, flea markets, any used game stores in your area. If you have local game shops (not a national chain), then seek those out. Yahoo auctions can net you some rare finds.
Well, you'd need the CD and system card upgrade but I'd highly recommend Lords of Thunder. Ninja Spirit is fun too.
www.tzd.com
games im most interested in right now are Galaga, shmups, beat em ups, and Technos games. pretty much the only reason i picked it up aside from thinking $50 wasn't too much.
also, do i have to mod this thing to play imports?
No not for the CD games. For the card games you need an adapter.
No mod, but there is an adapter out there for the hucards. I think some guy from Canada makes them. I forget what it's called. I had one, but sold it, they can be pretty tough to find. If I remember correctly there's no region lock on CD games. Again, Lords of Thunder..you won't regret it,

You can try:
www.videogamedepot.com
www.telegames.com
I highly recommend the US released Military Madness. If you like Advance Wars, this game is in that same category and a pretty good one at that.
TZD just sent me an email this week saying they're going to get new adapters in soon (from Australia so I have no clue as to the quality). Check 'em out and see what they've got. They're running so low on accessories that it's a joke though.
First off, do a board search for "PC Engine" and look for the threads that cropped up this past summer, when several of us got our first PC Engines/TG-16. You'll find a lot of helpful advice.Quote:

As for imports, here's the deal. You can play all CDs and Super CDs regardless of region. Arcade CDs require an Arcade Card, which you'll need a HuCard converter for.
For cards, you'll need a HuCard converter for any Japanese games. There are a few good ones you'll want to check out, but for now you'll do just fine without a converter.
Here are some good, mostly cheap US HuCards to check out:
Galaga '90 (actually Galaga '88)
Ninja Spirit (this is an absolute must, one of the finest ninja games ever made)
Vigilante
Super Star Soldier
Soldier Blade
Ordyne (unless you have the Namco Museum copy for PSone)
Dragon Spirit (ditto for above)
Military Madness
Be sure to check out PaCrappa's inventory at GameTZ. He has a lot of Turbo and PCE stuff.

Have fun!
Congrats. I hope to join the ranks some day soon myself. :)
Neutopia.
With you being a Zelda fan and all, check out the Neutopia games. They are a total rip-off of Zelda, but they are fun anyways.
I've found GameTZ to be a good place for TG-16 games. I've got a few decent ones I'd trade you, but you gotta send me my damn gamecube controller first.
If you're looking at PC Engine HuCards, it's hard to go wrong with Mizubaku Daibouken / Liquid Kids.
anyone interested in trading/buying
Keith Courage in Alpha Zone
Davis Cup Tennis
Andre Panza KickBoxing
???
Blazing Lazers is the best shooter ever in my opinion. It will kick your ass!
Good luck trying to get rid of Keith Courage. Virtually every TG16 owner has the game already.
For Hucards I recommend:
Blazing Lazers(shooter)
Bonk series(platform)
Ninja Spirit(platform)
Dragon's Curse(Action/RPG)
Legendary Axe series(platform)
Alien Crush(pinball)
Devil's Crush(pinball)
Soldier Blade(shooter)
Neutopia series(Action/RPG)
Bravoman(platform) - Most people seem to hate this game though. I think it's a Namco classic
Chew Man Fu(puzzle)
Super Star Soldier(shooter)
Air Zonk(shooter)
R-Type(shooter) - unless you have the PS1 version
get toilet kids (?). the overhead shooter where you shoot poop and stuff.....it will own you :)
My top recommendations:
Parasol Stars - Surely you must like Bubble Bobble. This is like Bubble Bobble with more fun.
Liquid Kids (JP) - Utterly brilliant platformer. Must see to believe!
Legendary Axe - It has got the NES feel. My favorite 8-bit hack n slash action game.
Air Zonk - Large colorful graphics, nice NES-esque music. Not very challenging, but fun.
You might also want to try Cyber Core. It's a lesser-known bug-themed shooter. Some say it's average at best, but I think it's fun. Cheap, too. Got mine for $10 (on ebay). Actually, sometimes you can come across veritable treasure troves of PCE/Turbo stuff being sold on ebay, and for cheap, too, so I'd reccomend keeping an eye out for good deals. Most US-released HuCard games will be no more than $20, usually less (except for Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, etc.).
Some other places to look for Turbo stuff:
McVan's Games
Diskounter's
Imports:
Game Choice Club
Mad Gear Games
Wolfgames
Try to get Somer Assault. It's really weird. You're a Slinky with a gun in this game and you can cling to walls and shoot stuff. It's a domestic HuCard, so you won't have to track down an expensive, and hard to find convertor to play it.
Other Card games to get would be Bloody Wolf, Tiger Road, Psychosis, Dungeon Explorer, and Dragon's Curse.
If you want to play imports, just get an actual PC Engine. Those stupid converters are more expensive and hard to find than the system itself.
You will own those games until the day that you die. Keith and Panza are basically the most unsellable games ever...except for maybe Super Marioless Duck Hunt. But Keith's actually kinda fun if you give it a chance.Quote:

As for my advice with games? Learn Japanese. You'll have access to one of the coolest gaming libraries ever. The shooters & platformers you'll be fine with, but there are some truly kickass rpgs on the system that were never released here.
Oh, and get the Y's games, if only for the soundtracks (you did get the CD add-on for with that $50, right? Otherwise you were ripped off, big time).
Way to go Lucas!!!
You must play Super Star Solidier now!
I highly recommend Vigilante. It plays like Kung Fu with better graphics and 80's thugs. I think I paid 5 bucks for it, and was well worth it.
R-Type on the TG16 is probably the best port I've ever played of it. It has a little flickering at times, but if I remember correctly it doesn't have any slowdown. Personally I'm on the hunt for the R-Types CD.
Those are the only two hucard games I have, most of mine are cd.
If it hasn't already been metioned here's another good place to buy PC Engine games (along with Saturn and others) -
http://www.thewestexit.com/
Great system!
Here's a list of what I'd recommend:
US:
Blazing Lazers
Pac-Land
Super Star Soldier
Soldier Blade
Parasol Stars
Cadash
Power Golf
Don't get Jack Nicklaus Golf... now that is a horrible game. It takes too long to redraw after a shot.
Japan:
Dragon Saber (if you don't have it on PSOne)
1943 Kai
Street Fighter II CE
Thunder Blade
After Burner (decent conversion right up there with the Genesis one, but skip if you have it on Saturn)
Kyukyoku Tiger (mostly the same game as Twin Cobra, but it is one player with restart points... TC is a revision of the game that appeared after KT in the arcades.)
If you want to play Arcade or Super System Card CD games, you'll probably need the adapter. Fatal Fury Special is actually close to the Neo-Geo game from what I've heard.
I'm surprised there are a handful of Vigilante fans at TNL. Back in the day, most of my friends didn't like it. I think it's a fun beat 'em up and the TG16 version is the best home port of it.

The Amiga version was damn near arcade perfect.
On the other hand, the SMS version absolutely sucks. It is sluggish compared to the real deal. The character design from the arcade game fails to hold up too well here. It has no challenge- I walked through it after about half an hour. The trick that lets you kill the first boss almost instantly in the arcade & TG-16 versions doesn't work. It is a serious Two-Mega disappointment.

I liked the SMS version of Vigilante and I still have it. It was obviously more impressive before the superior Turbo version arrived a year later.
