PS2 or JPS2.

You should probably just get the US version. There's too many good RPGs coming out and unless you know how to play them japanified, you won't be to happy.

I say get the JPS2. It's cool, crisp taste is pure bliss in your mouth.

And I need to justify my decision to trade in my US PS2 toward Steel Battalion...yes, I really did it.

But I still have my JPS2, so all's well in Veggie-ville! :D

Get a Japanese PS2, man, earlier this past summer I researched whether to buy a JPS2, mod my present US one, or buy a new, modded, US PS2.

Well, I found that the cost of sending in my US PS2 to be modded: cost of labor, cost of chip, cost of my shipping it to them and them shipping it back to me, cost almost as much as buying a new JPS2. And just buying a new pre-modded one would run me as much as buying a new US AND Japanese PS2.

Adding to this that Sony and developers are constantly upgrading security measures to detect each new modchip and you have to find ways around THAT, and I don't play backups (the only REAL advantage to having a modded system), and the choice to just invest in a JPS2 was easy. I reccommend you go this route too :)

I would say go for a Japanese PS2 if you are sure the games you want are going to be on there...I myself have a Japanese PS2 with no plans on getting a US model or modding it. Although, I also have a fair understanding of Japanese now(although when I bought it originally last year my knowledge of the language was much less)

I say Jap PS2. But you knew I was going to say that.

Are there any other non-shooters worth looking into?

Hrmm I have a US PS2 already, but I want GGX2 as soon as it is released..plus shooters are always a big plus.

Does anyone know if the JP Gitaroo-Man is better in any way (I thought I remember hearing it was harder, which I would like it to be harder because Master Mode is to easy for me now :( )

If I were to sell all my stuff and get a JP PS2 would it cost me more?

edit: Now that I think about it, my friends wouldn't be able to bring over there games then..gah, damn you sony!

JPN PS2, I'm learning Japanese just so I can move to Japan and bathe in gaming bliss...after I make my fortune that is... God bless the one nation that venerates games as much as they should be venerated...

all this debate over getting a PS2? or you mean a DVD player with built in PS 1.5? make sure you get the extended warranty because the unit will die 3 minutes after the manufacturers warranty expires. or you could save yourself the headache and get a real next gen system (Xbox or Gamecube).
