Western games vs. Japanese games...

Inspired by Schlep's post in the Gamecube haven topic... of the games you've played in the last year, which side have they been primarilly developed by, Western (US/EU/CN), or Japanese, and which side have you enjoyed more?

For me, it's definitely Western. I mean, I've loved a lot of Japanese games this past year, Shenmue 2, Virtua Fighter 4, Sega GT 2002, Mario Sunshine, but even without including PC games, Western games like Mech Assault, Splinter Cell, Starfox Adventures, Rallisport Challenge, GTA:VC, Moto GP, Uneal 2003/Championship, Hitman 2, and Morrowind have really dominated my time this year.

Haven't bought many american games this year. I did get a few Japanese games that were styled for America. But not american games...

For me it's been mostly Japanese in both catagories and by a fairly large margain as well.

This isn't just a poll guys, tell why you voted for your choice! :)

I can't say I've noticed which was what for the most part, and the only times I thought about it directly corralated to a thread on this board. So who knows.

Though I can definately cast a vote for Retro. :)

Why? Well, the games I enjoy tend to be the games that I buy, so.. that's why it's Japanese/Japanese. Why do I like Japanese games.. I dunno, I never really think about it. It just "is". They appeal to me. :)

played more japanese and enjoyed more japanese. but at the moment, it's all american til the end of the year for me. with the exception Fusion (which i still might put off til march).

still, im gaining a lot more respect for US developers.

I voted bought Japanese, played Japanese. This past year, my consoles have played host to games like REZ, Resident Evil (GC), Shenmue 2 (Europe), Ace Combat 4, Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, PSO (Still playing the DC version online, while I can), MGS2(PS2), Final Fantasy X, SegaGT(played here and there), Gran Tourismo 3(Played here and there) and Airforce Delta(I've had it for a while, but just recently started playing it, in hopes of finishing the game).


The only Western developed games that have peaked my interest over the last year have been, NFL2k3, Rogue Leader (bought it last year, but still play it), Alone in The Dark 4 (Just picked up the DC rev today) and possibly GTA:Vice City. This is one of the main reasons that I have'nt bought an Xbox yet. The Japanese developed Panzer Dragoon ORTA may change my mind about an Xbox soon though.

All west, though it shouldn't be a suprise.

Looking at my games I just noticed that..... most of the western games I seem to have are racing games and are often developed in Europe.
