You started a good thing, Despair. I want to thank you for turning me on to this movie. It rocks. :)
I told all my friends about it and they all loved it.
D
I saw this movie a few weeks ago, and well I thought it was laughably bad. Here's my reasons why:
Im sorry, but I thought the fighting was SUPER LAME! It was basically Christian Bale pointing his guns at some odd angles, and then cutting some badass pose at the end. It was REALLY DORKY and STUPID. The whole gunkata idea is kinda neat, I suppose, but holy hell it certainly didnt look good in motion. The only fight scene I liked was the very first one, and thats only because of some fairly cool lighting.
And I know that Despair thought that the movie looked better than the $30 million (or whatever) price tag, but those cheesy CG rendered city scapes didnt do it for me.
And holy fuck, the story? Uhh, I can sum it up: 1984 + Brave New World + Fahrenheit 451. Sure, if youve never read these staples of English literature, I guess you can think the movie had a good story.
I guess...
I give it a 1/4, using standard movie-rating schemes.
Well, I'm glad that you finally watched it, and I didnt really expected a different reaction. You were pretty much sure that you wont like it and that it was a bad movie, so even veiwing of it, wouldnt really change your opion. Too bad though :)
Nah man its not like that at all (although I wish I posted this before so you wouldnt say it). See I watched it in early September, many months away from when I posted all that stuff. Thats definite seperation. I actually was hoping to like it, and it wasnt until the end when I started to be like, aww man this movie bites. But I digress.
Hey, that's your opinion dude, that's cool. At least you gave it a chance.
And yeah, I've read those 3 books. No one's ever accused Equilibrium of being completely original- when telling people about it, I often compare it to 1984 and that movie Logan's Run, except that the elite police force (called Sandmen instead of Clerics) shoot people who are over 30, not people who feel or own a painting. Anyone ever see that movie? Kinda cheesy, but entertaining.
Damnit, all local places that sell dvd's don't have Equilibrium in. When they do, it's close to 40CAD new just because it isn't on the hit list and isn't very popular, damn!:(
I'm sorta in between on this one.
While the concept and storyline was interesting, it's the execution that made me not like it as much as, say, Despair does. While I could kinda put it in the back of my mind for the sake of it being a movie, I can't see how any person could live life without emotion. There were several times where people seemed to show emotion, even if it was for a short period of time. It just made it unbelievable to me. Also, while it was forgivable, the effects were not that great. And I think that Gun Kata is a interesting idea, but I just can't for the life of me see how even with his different posturing and shifting angles how not a single person could hit him AT ALL! At least it made sense as to why Neo was near-invincible in Reloaded.
There were only really four action scenes, and they were all rather short besides the ending. Maybe budget restraints, but still. The best part of the movie (the Gun Kata) was the least prevalent.
With more money, it could have been better. But I still can't see how anyone could say it's better than the Matrix, and that includes Reloaded. There were just too many little things that bugged me or didn't make sense to me. Had there been no huge amount of hype here about Equilibrium, I might have enjoyed the movie more, but I digress.
2.5/4 from me; 3/4 maybe if you're more forgiving than I am.
They never said the drug COMPLETELY blocks all emotion- it's said several times in the movie that it just blocks the highs and lows.Quote:

Dude, it's a movie. Watch any one of a hundred kung-fu flicks, the hero kills 50 people with his bare hands. Same thing here. I liked seeing an action movie where the hero just pwned everyone in seconds. It's bad-ass.Quote:

I have to agree with you here. EQ is more of an "action-drama" than an action movie. I would have liked to have seen the Gun Kata concept expanded a bit more as well.Quote:

All I can say is that I still pop in my EQ DVD on a regular basis. Reloaded is a distant memory for me. I probably won't even bother picking up the DVD when it's released. The original Matrix was an awesome movie but Reloaded did nothing for me.
Hey, SonofdonCD, where in NY are you?
