DVD or CD-RW?

They're still pushing DVD+, and it doesn't look like they'll stop anytime soon.

One thing though... copying dvd's is fine and dandy, but if you need to do any video conversions (like you want to burn a Divx movie to a dvd format) you need some SERIOUS power and hard drive space on your pc.

Well, the DVD- format is the choice if you're looking for discs that will be compatible with the widest arrays of DVD players out there. That's the format the DVD Consortium officially supports.

Sony just came out with a DVD writer that reads/writes ALL formats, both - and +. It's under 300, and it has receieved kickass reviews from everywhere I've seen. Get that one if you're going DVDRW.

A good compromise would be a CD-RW/DVD combo drive that will play DVDs/write CDs. You can find those for under 100.

If not, I'd say go for a CD-RW. Here's a link to a new 52X for under 80 bucks.
