okay im putting together my new pc this week and wanted to get a full version OS. i found these places with full verion "OEM's" that are half the price of a store bought version and they seem to be different only in that they dont have all of the packaging. so whats the deal with these? i wanted to get Win2000 full version (which is over $200) but the OEM full version is about half that.
Original Equipment Manufacturer. It's the stuff sold at reduced rates to people who build PCs, but they can in turn sell it to you for less than the full retail product. Sometimes OEM products are not fully supported by the manufacturer or are downgraded (graphics cards especially). Windows usually isn't sold by itself as OEM, so you may have to buy a motherboard or something.
yeah at newegg you have to buy hardware which in their case could be a $1 case badge. cool then. thanks for the info.
