I prefer Spinter Cell. Better atmosphere, less cut scene crap and wonderful 5.1 sound.

If by Metal Gear 2 you mean Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge for NES then I vote for Splinter Cell.
I vote for Penis, because it was made by Capcom.
From what I played of Splinter Cell, I'd go with that simply for the better gameplay. That's a bit premature (hence my non-vote) since I've only played the demo. MGS2 was a bit too much of a joke after MGS.Or MG: Solid Snake for MSX2.Quote:

I'm only on the 4rth level of Splinter Cell, but I'd vote MGS2 over it if you include the Substance version. Folks, those of you who buy it are in for a treat. I've put 20 or so hours into the vr missions and have completed little over half of what it offers. I've put in couple of hours into Snake tales and I'm still on the first of five missions. While I enjoy the open ended approach of Splinter Cell, the gameplay in Substance vr missions is far away much more enjoyable to me.
Splinter Cell by a mile.
what about the "ass" porting job that Konami did with putting the game on the Xbox? they could have made one killer product that you can rub in the face of every PS2 fanboy. no, we get slowdown. this is 2002 Konami, we should not experience slowdown anymore. bunch of lazy ass bitches. i guess they were too busy making the next big head baseball game for the gameboy or winning eleven 56974466413 that they keep spewing out.
oh well, maybe there is a killer Xbox live version of Mystical Ninja suprise game coming out so they got the janitorial staff to port MGS2.
(i can dream right?)
oh yeah, i vote splinter cell! maybe MGS2 when it hits bargain bin
The slowdown only shows up in certain parts of the main game, not in any of the vr or alternate missions (cept for the giant flying box thing you have to take out with the stinger, but thats no biggy to me).
I've had Substance for a while now and still it play it, for hours on end sometimes. I just got Splinter Cell, and most of the time when I make any progress I find new things about the game that turn me off.
That slowdown (which I'l be mentioning in my upcoming review) was totally unforgiveable. Apparently the code which was originally optimized for the PS2 did't translate well. It's funny for anti-Xbox fans, but such a slap in the fact to anyone who invested in that and gets a rude awakening. Inexcusable. I'd still go with Splinter Cell myself even with the extensive VR missions.
In some respect, it's really unfair to compare, because they have different nuances and are kinda like apples and oranges. But for discussion sake, ya...SC is sweet. Substance is for the diehard MGS2 fan (yes, like Zidane)
bahn is right...this is an apples and oranges kinda thing...both are great games, but they play totally different...
I don't think all the extra hours of gameplay is something just for the diehards. I see the vr missions as the meat of the gameplay, the actual game is just a story that implements it all together.
I go with Splinter Cell because Sam Fisher is what a true covert operative should be. I lost all respect for Snake after seeing him skate around the Big Shell.
Splinter Cell offers so much more than MGS2. The story actually makes sense, Sam has so many more moves than Snake, his gadgets are much cooler, and the overall atmosphere is one of tension and suspense. Did that guard hear me? Did they see me when I stepped into the light? Awesome stuff.
Oh, and there's no whiny Otacon. ;)
The VR missions are truly the driving purchase factor here. Not SOL, which in the case of the Xbox edition doesn't capture the integrity of the original as everyone was led to believe.
350 VR missions, 150 Alternative Missions, complete with several hidden characters and bonuses, ya - it's all about the VR missions.
Snake Tales is...well, a bit more challenging than the original SOL chapter with Zidane, but also pretty flat in some respects. I wanted to play through the ENTIRE game with Snake damn it!
Melf: It's called, uh..."fun" LOL. poor Snake. damned because he went skateboarding. But I hear where you're coming from. ^_^
Speaking of skateboarding, have you unlocked it? I haven't tried it yet, but I read on the gamefaqs board that you have to play the tanker in european extreme and take a picture of a skateboard and download it into a computer.
Splinter Cell is Tenchu with guns. Guns, most of the time you can't use, I might add. I'm up to the Chinese Embassy gates right now, and it's cool, but the option to just shoot a couple guards here and there (or at the very least enough darts to tazer at least 1/2 of them) would be nice.
Better graphics than MGS2, sans the retarded 'story'. Though, MGS2 does have the edge in inventory management, go Konami!

MASSIVE CHINESE EMBASSY SPOILERS AND BEYOND ALERT!

You'll get the fifth freedom after you laser mic the General's car, so you can go back and kill anyone you want in the Embassy. You'll also be able to kill just about everyone in the next three missions.
Fear not!
I definitely say Splinter Cell. SC is absolutely one of the best games I've had the pleasure of playing through in the recent memory.
I don't know if people consider me bizarre or not, but I actually disliked the missions where they allow you to go crazy and kill everyone. In a lot of cases, it's far too easy to find a sniping perch, pick off enemies and move onto the next section. The CIA mission, where no deaths are allowed and just a few alarms meant mission failure offered far tenser, more exciting gameplay IMO.
This just goes miles to exhibit how highly I regard Splinter Cell's stealth emphasis. While I do question why Sam doesn't stock himself more fully for each mission, the way it limits you and causes you to stealth more than you'd otherwise. I must say, after the CIA mission though, I've never run out of sticky shockers or ringfoils.
And I really believe Splinter Cell's storyline gets an unnecessary amount of flak. The TV news segments get the job done and really convey a good sense of the political feel of the game, without it dragging on for hours worth of watching.
