Over eBay, I just dropped $288 for a JPS2 with VF4, Klonoa 2, Maximo, Onimusha, Gungrave, and the Metal Gear Solid promotional DVD.
It's one of the launch JPS2s, I believe. The only problem with this model number was the whole DVD region thing, right?
Sounds like a nice price to me, given all the games that came along with it.

I think you got pretty cool deal, considering all those games. And now you can enjoy some of the PS2 games that unfortunately havent come here.
I have the first model Jap PS2 too. The only problem I had with it was with the memory card. First it kept deleting itself, then it finally died. I've had a replacement memory card for about a year now and haven't had a problem.
I paid $250 for a Japanese Ps2 with no games, so yes, I'd say you got a good deal.
As for any problems, I've never heard of problems with Japanese units. I think that may be confined to the Us systems for the most part. I hope so anyway...
The first run of the PS2's in Japan were recalled. They said it was because the memory cards erased themselves, but I'm sure it was because you could disable macrovision easily on it. The motion picture association wasn't happy about it. I don't think that they would have recalled the PS2 just because of a memory card bug.
The PS2s weren't recalled, the Memory Cards were.

Now let's see if all the future Bemani release are fucking Pop'n Music or what -_-

You can play DVDs through RGB, also, on the early Japanese PS2s.
What is available in Japan that isn't available here in the US? Sure, you may be able to get it sooner, but I'd rather wait so I could pay less money and get a better version.
The memory cards and utility discs were recalled (memory card came with the system). The 1.00 utility discs let you disable macrovision somehow. So I guess they were trying to kill two birds with one stone. But they wanted anyone that bought a system to turn that stuff back in...I don't think it went too well.Quote:

WOW, thats a great deal tain!, I've heard of people here buying Jps2's for 300$ and paying 70$ for imports at toysnjoys locally... So that sounds like one hell of a deal to me

Don't forget that import PS2s also play import PSX games. That is quite a deal in of itself.
Bemani is Konami's rhythm series. The name is taken from BeatMania. Pretty much their entire Bemani line is import only except partially for DDR.Quote:

Had my monkey ass been cognizant of that auction, you can rest assured I would have sniped that from everyone else with a maximum bid of $350 in the waning seconds. I'm going to end up getting a JPN PS2 in the very near future anyway, but I think you did yourself proud with that auction victory. That PSX point is a good one I never thought of, so I take back my statement, half way anyway. I can live without owning ever dance game though :)
I wish I knew that a week ago. I got a recently Gameshark 2 so I could play regionless dvds, and found out the hard way that component cables just make the image go all pink and wavy =/Quote:

Most PS1 imports including Zanac X Zanac (although some won't play 100% correctly- I've been told Gradius Gaiden slows down bad in stage 7, and Toaplan Shooting Battle won't play at all) .
