Well since I finished finals week I decided to relax and rent 2 games that have interested me in a "Try me and wait for me to hit 20 bucks!" way.
So I perused and found Darkened Skye(which I bashed in one of my threads but I compellingly wanted to try it) and Minority Report on Gamecube.
Darkened Skye reminds me alot of Drakan and Draconus in terms of graphics and humor. Darkened Skye is loaded with jokes and it doesn't take itself TOO seriously, I mean c'mon it's based on Skittles. It has a nice magic system which you assign skittles to and you can toggle with the d-pad.
The default controls are retarded so if you get this game my recommeded mapping(thank God for it) is B for attacks, A for jumping, R for talking, L for taking out the staff, Z for magic and X for using items. Once you're done with that it's all good.
Musicwise it's fine and the graphics aren't really that special at all. The Cube is totally far more capable than this and it just looks like it could have easily been done on a Dreamcast but they serve their purpose.
What's kind of odd though is this game has one of the most amazing boxarts I've ever seen by Joe Madureira yet the graphics aren't that good.

What it can definitely improve on is that it needs a lock on system since hitting shit frantically while getting your ass handed to you isn't fun, also it needs a friggin map.
Anyways a pefect $20 game so wait for it to hit that price.
And then there's Minority report. I LOVED the movie and I'll definitely nab the DVD. I played the little demo levels on this months OPM and while they weren't mind blowing I was compelled to play them over and over again, particularly the awesome jet pack level.
So I got the Cube version since I assume it's the best out of 2 consoles that I own. The control takes getting used to especially the jumping but they're fine and mapped more efficiently than the PS2 controller which doesn't make use of all of the buttons.
It feels lot like Spiderman combat-wise since it's using the same engine and it being developed by the same guys, but not really since it's a different kind of game. You get "non-lethal" weapons which are still cool because they have neat effects and kick ass.
The most fun thing to do was to throw people off a roof or through a glass window while they say "Oh my God I'm faaaaalliiinng", also grabbing + kneeing them, punching the shit out of them, kicking them when they're down and then throw THEM OFF A ROOF!
It has this 'rag doll' physic thing which is just funny to watch but sucks then you're the ragdoll. Graphically it's very solid, and what kicks ass the most are the effects. The glass shattering, the thruster exhaust, explosions, weapon effects it all looks fantastic. The framerate takes a hit though in alot of places especially when there's alot of people or stuff happening on the screen, which sucks.
The character models are good but John Anderton looks completely different than the Tom Cruise version because of the fact that Tom doesn't want his likeness on anything(hey fuck you Tom) but John still looks cool and is voiced by kickass Clancy Brown.
The music isn't that much there but it kicks in when you fight baddies or in a boss fight. It follows the movie fairly well but it doesn't get into the details. It has a good amount of replay like the black market store where you buy guns, extra health, goodies and the like. It also has a gallery for concept art and such so it's good for a few more replays. In all it's a pretty good game and it's one I'd gladly buy for 30-20 bucks.
So there's my rentals any of you guys rent or borrow anything you liked/disliked.
