Does anyone know the differences between the two games besides the PC Engine/Duo having a CD soundtrack and some anime cut scenes?
Back in High School my friend would always tell me how great this game was and even he even showed a video of him playing in his Vampire class I attended. I played the Super Nes version years ago and thought it was good but I hear there are some major changes between the two.

Well, since I have both versions, lets see what I can remember off hand what is different....Like you said already, the PC-E version has an anime opening and ending...it has a VERY nice CD soundtrack...biggest difference would be the levels..The SNES version's levels are TOTALLY different from the PC-E version..They COULD have made it a direct port, but chose, for some stupid reason, to try and modify it, and in my opinion, didnt do a great job of it..its not technically a BAD game, it just comes nowhere near the PC-E version....
Damn that's a bummer, I found a used copy of SNES Dracula X...I knew it wasn't the PCE ver. but at least I thought it could have been a decent game
Now I guess I can use that money towards other SNES games on my wish list. :)
i too, have both versions of the game. i like the snes version, but it really does pale in comparison to the turbo duo one.
differences... let's see. first off, the super nes version is a bit more colorful, but the turbo duo version is more detailed; there are more things going on on-screen. of course, the music is lightyears better on the turbo duo version due to the cd quality. thirdly, the levels are a lot different. the duo version has better level design and cooler level themes (e.g., the first level of both games are of a burning town, but the duo version's town is the one from castlevania 2). also, not only are the levels different, but there are some levels that the duo version has that the super nes doesn't (e.g., ship level). and finally, the controls on the duo version is more responsive.
the super nes version is still a good game (call me a heretic, but i prefer it over super castlevania), but it doesn't hold a candle to the duo version.
They are basically two different Castlevania games completly. In Dracula X on the Turbo Duo, you have of course CD sound and Anime cutseces, but you also have another character to play as. The levels except for the first one (which is actually just similar, but looks different) are all completly different. The final boss's are completly different as well. The Turbo Duo is much more fun than the SNES version, lots more things to do, like finding the girls and such. Plus its a lot faster and smoother as well, BUT its about 6 times easier than the SNES version. The Duo version has more in it and stuff, but the game is never really HARD, the final Dracula is a sinch. The SNES version is more like the other Castlevania games before it, like IV. No other things to find, and the final Dracula is an absolutle ASS! I have fought that damn ass face many times and he kicks my ass hardcore, and I have never beaten him. I say get both, they are very differant from one another. While the Duo version is really really fun, it lacks any real difficulty. While the SNES version is more like the others, and does not have the same experiance as the Duo version, its a lot harder. If you only get one get the Duo version, but if you can, get both.
Not impressed at all with the SNES version. The PCE vesion sports many little details in the levels where the SNES is kinda cut and dry straight forward design. The multiple paths in the PCE are both more interesting and more enjoyable to find. I believe Maria is absent from the SNES version and she added a nice dose of replayablity to the game. Also most of the bosses in the SNES version are less than impressive. In stage 2 you fight a Vampire Bat, the same bat appears in the PCE as a wizard resurrects the original bosses of Castlevania (Medusa, Bat, Mummy, Frankenstein), where care was put into the bosses and where they appear in the PCE version most of the SNES ones just seem cut and pasted into the game. *-neo
They should just stuck the Vampire's Kiss title onto the box...
I like both versions, the PC-Engine DX is clearly the better of the two. The SNES one has it's merits, though.
You can get three endings depending on whether or not you can find both of the girls. The music is still good even though it's not the rockin' tunes in the PC-E version.
I agree with one of the comments above. I also (vastly) prefer Drac X on SNES to Castlevania IV.
Someday I'll own the PC Engine Dracula X... maybe...
SNES Drac X is still a Castlevania game of high quality. The hate it recieves is ridiculous...
SNES Drac X was hard as hell... I want to play PCE Drac X someday...

I just do not understand why the SNES Drac X gets shitted on. ITs still a damn good game, just not as good as Duo X. Its not as if the Duo version is on some untouchable pedestal that no other Castlevania game can reach.
You can keep your $150 dollar Dracula X, thank you. I'll be over in the $20 SNES area.
I love the SNES one. I haven't played the Duo one. I already own the greatest Castlevania made... (SotN)

Isn't this like the 3rd time in the last 2 weeks peeps have argued about this.
At the end of the day neither of them could be as shit as X68000 Dracula.
The level design was terrible. Worst home castelvania ever after the x6900 dracula. It was still a good game though.
