I will finally be getting my new PC late next month, and I have been giving some thought to doing some import gaming on it.
My understanding is that some games will run on any region's Windows, but others require specific versions. Is that correct?
Has anyone set up a dual boot with an American version of Windows and an Asian (Japanese/Korean) version?
Any other thoughts, pointers, etc.?
I've been meaning to try this out with a few games (like Eternal Fighter Zero), but have simply never gotten around to it.
Pretty much for any games you can download, the only problem you'll have is occasionally with filenames. I've yet to encounter a region-specific game (includes getting demos), but I've heard they're out there.
While the only PC imports I have are Euro, I have played some Japanese and Korean PC demos. I generally had no problems running them under American Windows 98.
What exactly is there to import? And for that matter, who sells PC imports...?
I was wondering the same thing there Andy. What region specific PC demos are out there anyway?
Didn't Video Game Depot used to have Baroque Shooting and some other Japanese PC games?
Wolfgames had some Japanese computer games too.

I find there a bunch of fighting games I'd like to get my hands on, and that's about it. Unless you have some strong urge for Korean MMORPGs...

Himeya has a TON of PC imports, and it basically amounts to the Ys series, Koei strategy games, and ALOT of hentai. 90% of the japanese PC market is hentai.Quote:

I own a few japanese PC games. Kamui, and a couple of old Rmance of the3 Kingdoms and Nobunaga games. And Ghengis Kahn 2. The Koei ones are old and DOS. I don't have japanese fonts for windows.
Oh, and with the exception of Doujinshi games (which are very cheap) japanese PC games tend to cost at least $80
Anyone know any good non-text-heavy Chinese PC games? Chinese PC games are fairly easy to find where I live but most of the games seem to be RPG or strategy games. Many of them appear to be Japanese PC games translated into Chinese but sometimes it's hard to tell.

In digging through my bookmarks, I found that Yes Asia also carries import PC games.

I do the import thing. There are some great games out there that a person can run on a PC. I highly recommend doing this yourself.
There are only a few import games I can think of that would be worth getting for the PC: Ys Eternal 1 and 2, Shikigami no Shiro EX (If you dont already have it). There is also a lot of good Chinese RPGs and (to a lesser extent) Korean RPGs (there are tons of Korean MMORPGs though)

With Raiden Fighters Evolution on the way to PC, I may import that also. Hopefully it will not have any sort of a territorial lockout.

I didn't know RFO was headed to PC. I'll make sure to get that for sure. And agreed about Kamui. Very fun little shooter. Very professional, and well balanced. And the hard difficulty is quite the challenge too. Definately a gem of the doujin scene.Quote:

Polywaggles and Frogacuda- Damn good point. It's why I pass on most hentai, other than lack of plot and crap animation values and a host of other faults.
As for imports on PC, my first thought was PSX emulation. My dying PSX just doesn't want to run reliably enough to make gaming on it worthwhile so I play all my imports through ePSXe. Not as fun as sitting in front of a tv, but it beats not playing at all.
