Official Freddy Vs. Jason thread

Badly written low budget movies that don't scare anyone over the age of fifteen? If horror movies want to scare people again, they need to be completely reinvented at this point. Right now the older series exist to give fans a campy good time, and even though I'm fine with that I honestly can't see a Freddy or Jason movie ever scaring me again.


I beg to differ. The Jason movies 1-4 where pretty good movies and Freddy 1 and 2 were great aswell.
From there each series turned to crap and went downhill into the cheese factory of doom.

I mean c'mon, maybe it's just my ability to not shut off my brain (Ie, I don't want to) but sometimes they blantantly insult your intelligence.

I knew right away that the movies were going to not be totally accurate (See: New writers that THINK they know what they are doing).
What ever happened to Jasons crack in his mask from the chick in 3 (I think) that threw the knife into his head/mask? It was there in films after that but not in Freddy vs Jason. Why? Oh I forgot. I'm supposed to not think and just enjoy the fighting and gore. Please.
If you want to see PROPER arm removal check out Saving Private Ryan. Why don't they make horror movies way more realistic like that? It would increase the scare factor by a lot, rather than the shooting of blood out of limbs/torsos that hits trees 50 feet away.

Jason and Freddy (I like jason better IMO) are GREAT characters. They have just been plagued with the 'typical cookie cutter' horror movie writers.

You don't agree? Wouldn't you love the movies EVEN more if they were well written and had kick ass stories that those characters deserve to be in?
I know I would.

But then again, my opinion doesn't count because I take pride in my intelligence? (I am in no way saying I'm smarter than anyone here, just way more critical I guess)

Uh........no one is saying your opinion doesn't count. No need to over react. I thought the movie was good. Anyways for me, I watch horror movies mainly for the comedical value. I mean how many people actualy get scared during the movies. Now maybe if its your first, then I maybe a little, but none of these movies are truely scary.

I'm not over-reacting. I know it's hard to tell sometimes through typing and stuff, I'm just trying to make it out that horror films don't need to be bad! I mean why not be great for the right reason?

Anybody who actually SAW the trailer and went in thinking this was going to be a movie with a decent story, decent effects, and all of these other high expectations is an idiot. Plain and simple.

But it WASNT BAD. It was infact great. The bad story was perfectly fine here, since the movie wasnt even about main characters. It was about Freddy fighting Jason. If it was for example the Ring, then you could have called storyline dissapointing, but not here. Man, No one is saying you cant have yout own opinon of the film, so chill out.

You claim that first few Friday films were "Smart"??? Whoa, That surprises me. Almost all Friday films were done in pretty much straightforward style FvsJ is. Bunch of teens get slaughtered by Jason while drinking, smoking and fucking. They run away from him, and last survivor finishes him off, untill next part. In this regard new movie is perfect. Nightmare films were more twisted, and imaginative, because of Freddy being more complicated villian. Still, the plots didnt go far away from the usual route.

Now in regard of special fx. Blood and guts in Saving Private Ryan werent all tha different than what was in FvsJ. It just the tone and mood of the film, that affected you differently. I love how here gore and guts were used for laughs. It WASNT serious horror film, and it DIDNT EVEN TRIED to be. If you went to see horror movie, you expected WRONG film. There are few actuall HORROR films, that are done with quality and actually chilling. Freddy vs Jason is in different category.

Yup, though based on the physical condition of both guys at the end (Freddy just being a head, Jason fine and whole and carrying Freddy's head around like a basketball), I don't see how it could officially be considered a draw.

Yeah, DJ took his friend with him, and they both had an awesome time.

Saw this for the second time Saturday night. Holy shit, I love this movie. It's perfect. it was fun in a different time this viewing because I knew what was going to happen and anticipated the crowd's responce to the good kills and lines. :)

I still can't believe that this movie lived up to my high expectations. :D

Hey, I never said Jason was a rocket scientist. :) I don't know, I appreciate Freddy and all, and I think he's a great character and I agree that Ronny Yu did an awesome job making him scary again. But I've liked Jason more 'cause he's a big, unstoppable and strong killing machine and I always find that those types are more fun to watch in slasher movies, at least for me. That's why I love Arnold movies when he just kicks everyone's ass. Plus, I dig masks, so that puts thing even more in Jason's favor. Also, I love the direct, gory, spectacular kills more and Jason had them in spades. Freddy's one kill was kind of lame. I wish they had let him go to town a bit more so we could see what he could do. Anyway, I hope Ronny Yu directs the sequel.

FvJ is not a "horror" movie. It is a "slasher" movie. You're totally missing the point.

This is an excellent theory, Despair, but it can't be correct. We've all seen Jason take lots of damage in previous Friday movies and come up fine (shot point-blank multiple times with shotguns, set on fire, hit by cars, axe driven into his skull, hit by lightening bolts and high-current electrical wires, etc.). Freddy did fuck him up, but it's already been said that Jason can't die and is always regenerating his wounds (note: his fingers were back in the end so he could hold Freddy's head). Other than implaing him with the 2 re-bars at the construction site, sticking his claw into his eye, and driving the machette into his chest, all his other strikes were surface wounds (though the big bucket thing seemed pretty painful). Compared to the damage we've seen Jason sustain earlier in this movie and in the previous movies, it's highly unlikely Jason died. Meanwhile, it's been shown multiple times in the Friday movies that if you bring Freddy out of the dreamworld and into the real world, he can be killed just like any other person. And if he is, he doesn't become a ghost again, he becomes powerless and goes back to hell until he can find some way of coming back. After all, Freddy had his arm torn off, Jason's fist punched through his chest, and his head chopped off. It's safe to say he's dead. Freddy's wink at the end was just a wink to the Nightmare fans, it's Freddy basically saying, "Okay, kids, Jason won this round, but just you wait until round 2!! Old Freddy's not down for the count yet!!". :)

Besides, your theory couldn't work because, if Jason actually died as you claim, Freddy couldn't do anything to him anymore, because you don't dream when you're dead. Remember when Freddy was about to kill the girl in the locker and Jason killed her in the real world? What happened? She dissapeared from the dreamworld and Freddy couldn't get her anymore. So, Jason can't be dead and it appears that he doesn't normally sleep so he couldn't be dreaming either.

Besides, that's why they spent all that time building Freddy up like a totally evil bastard and Jason as evil, yet somewhat sympathetic- they wanted the audience to feel a bit more for him, thus making him the cloest thing the movie could have to a "good guy" and thus, the winner in the end. Jason killing the annoying bitch from Destiny's Child just put him over the top. ;)

Personally, what I think will happen is that Jason will take Freddy's head back to his little cabin, and set it on his dresser, and Freddy will just start talking Jason's ear off. Soon, they'll get to know each other, and they're probably end up becoming pals, and in the sequel they'll team up against someone like Michael Myers or Ash or someone. That would make more sense then bringing in a few more horror icons and having a free-for-all.

Still, a big thanks to Ronny Yu for breathing life into both characters again. Based on the opening weekend (37 million and a budget of around 25 million, according to Despair- the movie made back more then it cost to make it in 2 days ), I think we'll be seeing much more of Freddy and Jason in the future. :D


Oh, and Despair, if you use the color tags also, it defeats the purpose of using the spoiler tags- I can still see what it says. Besides, if anyone here hasn't already seen FvJ by now, fuck 'em. :)

That took up about 8 seconds of the movie. They had to put something of a backstory in there, or it probably would have had even more gore and been rated NC-17 or something. :)

Actually, this movie felt more like the older Nightmre and Friday movies than any of the more recent ones. And as for it not being scary in the least, go back and watch the old movies now. They're not scary anymore either. But they're still fun. :)

BTW, they showed the Underworld trailer before FvJ, so I finally got to see it what all the hype from Despair is all about. Damn, that movie looks good. Like the bastard child of Blade and The Matrix, with werewolfs too. Should be great. :)

FvJ is how it was because that's how it's supposed to be. Fun. I agree though, that I'd like someone to take a stab at making a truly SCARY horror movie again. I think it CAN be done. FVJ is not the place to start, however. Freddy and Jason are fucking pop culture icons, it wouldn't work.

Well, Thats what Jason fans think ;) I can give you the tie between them, but definately not Jason victory. Even when Jason impaled Freddy with his arm, he still alive, it was the girl who struck the final blow. Funny thing, if Freddy gouged Jason's eyes with claws through the mask, how could he see Freddy to hit him with the arm? ;) :lol:

Jason WAS DEAD at the beginning of the film. In other words dreaming. Thats how Freddy got him to wake up/regenerate back to life and go to Elm Street. Same happens at the end, Jason is happy thinking that he WON, and walking back to his hideout perfectly intact and carrying Freddy's head. He THINKS he WON, and thats PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE for Freddy. Who can now safely go back to haunt dreams of Elm Street victims, since the rampage the duo caused is scared ALOT of people. So he can gain his power back.

Yeah, I'm happy it made money. And I dont see it suddenly stop making more. I think it will gather about 50-60 million, and that very good for a lower budget movie.

Just because Jason had Freddy's head at the end doesn't mean Jason won. The girl killed Freddy, not Jason. That would be like you playing my friend at Mortal Kombat and then I take over for him and beat you then go around saying my friend beat you.
Does that make any sense?

In the end, the stupid kids screwed everything up and there was no victor. Stupid kids!
