So...if someone had never seen any of the previous films of either series, would you all still recommend seeing this one? Do they provide enough info to make sense of it? -just reading through this thread, it doesn't seem like either character is all that deep or hard to come to grips with.
I don't typically like these types of films, but I recently saw Versus, which while quirky, I thought was pretty good, and this sounds like FvJ is similar.
Eh, I thought he was just a child killer, not molester, but I wouldn't be suprised. As for his mom, yeah, she was a nurse who was accidently locked in a psycho ward for a whole weekend. The inmates (a hundred of them) raped her hundreds of times and knocked her up with little Freddy before she was found. Sucks for her.Quote:

As for the victor, they both got their licks in but I think in the end Freddy 'won' that round since the girl interfered. He also really did a number on Jason's body with all the damage he took. I don't know how he would have really 'killed' Jason though unless he de-capitated him or something more severe. I need to know how resiliant his body is since he can also fall under the effects of the sleeping serum.
Eh, I don't see it. It's a simple slasher movie. Everything that happened in the movie was taken literally- it was explained right away. Nothing happened that would give any indication that it was in the dream world. Freddy winking wasn't meant to be anything but a cute way to end the movie. He's still decapitated and is now Jason's very own basketball.Quote:

You know, we can debate this shit until we're blue in the face. There's very good reasons to support MY view and maybe one or two minor ones to suppoer the other views. ;) The answer? We'll just have to wait for FvJ2 for that, I guess. You know, based on the success of this one, that New Line will want a sequel sooner rather than later (especially with Robert Englund getting up there in years). I'd bet money though that it won't start with Jason having lost. :)
I do agree however that they shouldn't have had that stupid bitch chop Freddy's head off, they should have ended it between F and J themselves. Then there wouldn't have been all this debating.

Yeah, they explain each character's backstory so you know the deal is. But the makers were banking in the nostalga factor to bring in the audience. You wouldn't get the same enjoyment out of the movie at all if you weren't familiar with the characters to begin with.Quote:

There is so much shit to talk about this flick, I always forget to write about something. A lot of people laughed during the movie, usually after a good kill. The bed knifing got a little "oh" and then the folding, I think the whole theatre flinched. And there was a surprising pop for Jason's neck snap at the rave. After seeing Freddy's display in this one, and the reactions he got, I just know they can get one more awesome standard flick out of him. It's in there, it just needs the care that this movie got and it'll be awesome.
Well, Nightmares 2 is not the worst one, Freddy's Dead takes the top spot, followed by New Nightmare. I actually like Nightmares 2, while the story might be bad, those FX were still cool(it was great to see some of the shots from Nightmares 2 in the opening montage of FvsJ, especially head/brain opening, and Freddy coming out from inside the guys chest).Quote:

I saw the 'jumpy' moments a mile away like the 'Freddy-in-the-mirror once-it-closes-shut' and 'the-guy-who-grabs-you-out-of-nowhere-to make-it-seem-like-it-was-the-bad-dude' stuff.

Really, the only parts that were damn good were the Freddy vs Jason fights since they were more to the point and were dream matches. The gore was ok but pretty tame compared to other movies today. The first death was pretty cool with the dude getting stabbed through the bed and getting folded backwards but after that it wasn't as good. I also thought letting Freddy resort to using 'bitch' alot got meh after the first time, old Freddy just made some great jokes and ended it in a more creative way instead of one lame death in this one.

Yeah, the brain scene was cool in 2 also, but that shower scene just ruins the whole movie for me. The teacher catches the kid at a bad, so he takes him to the school and makes him run laps?? Then take a shower? And why would Freddy strip the teacher naked and whip is ass with towels? Gay.
And yeah, Freddy's Dead was bad. It seemed like the whole point of the movie was just to set up the cheesy 3D ending section.
As for Freddy Vs. Jason, it's going to be like any other dream match-up. Remember Superman vs. Batman? In relaity Superman should be able to destroy Batman, but thay can't piss off the Batman fans or they won't buy the book, so they come up with ways to make things even so it can be enjoyed by all. It's always going to be like that with these things.
I still think Freddy and Jason should team up against someone in their next movie. Not become friends, but perhaps allies. Then, at the end, they can have one last showdown themselves. :)
Yeah, I agree, I was really happy with the gore level in FvJ. I never saw Jeepers Creepers (I'll get around to renting it someday), but one of the other movies that Will used as an example, Event Horizon (awesome movie, BTW), wasn't half as gory.Quote:

Most if it was either slamming a person really hard into something or impaling with a decapitation or two. The thing is even if EH was old, and Jeepers Creepers didn't have that much gore it came off more effective and cringe worthy. Like when the Creeper was taking the decapitated cop's tongue out or when the kid gets his eyes torn out after his screams. Anyway I know the film is not to be taken too seriously or anything but for me I just think more details or better ways to off the people would have been cooler.Quote:

But that the thing. Event Horizon wouldnt have been as gory if it was released now days. Just look what they did to Resident Evil, and even HO1KC was severy edited. Thats why its so surprising to see FvsJ or FD2 get away with such much gore.

But Freddy vs. Jason isn't really about the main characters. (I haven't seen it yet, just going from my expectations and commercials) I don't know why you'd even bother building up interesting main characters, because people want to see Freddy and Jason kill people anyway. It's to the point where they've almost BECOME the good guys and killing is the acceptance to their badassness.
Also, adding special effects on-caliber with Saving Private Ryan or other big budget flicks is not always wise. If this movie cost like 80 million to make, I don't think anybody would have made money off of it. And that's the goal in the end. As it is now, the movie was successful because it knew it had a limited audience (18 +) and did what they had to do.
In the end I'd love to see more development between the two characters and more suspense.
Oh, and what's the deal with Freddy? Isn't he a failed government project? I know Jason was tortured and stuff in the camp, but how did he become a big zombie? I've only seen a few Friday movies, so I'm not totally in the clear here.
I'm hoping to see it today or tomorrow, though.
Also: Who the hell's Leatherface? I'm not too adept at horror flicks outside of the Shining. But what's his deal?
What is with all of the Kelly Rowland hate? Don't tell me this is another one of those horror movies where the token black character(s?) dies just for the hell of it or gets messed over kind of deals. I thought horror movies were beyond that crap by now. :|
I'm interested in checking out the movie ('13th' fan here), but a few of my co-workers have mentioned that the movie is more 'Elm Street' than '13th' in style and I might not enjoy the movie as much because of it. I liked the first 'Elm St', but after Freddy was turned into an on and off (mainly off) comedian I wasn't interested in the movies as much. Is the Freddy vs Jason movie more 'Elm St.' in style?
